Love that you touched on the mental performance side. I'm a mental performance coach for athletes (mainly golfers currently), and I always love hearing about the mental side of performers outside of sports because it's so true what you said (especially on this level). It's interesting to hear you talking about how self-talk can negatively affect the way you perform, and that's mostly coming from a side of starting to think too much about your technique or thinking too much in the future with wanting to finish the song. Great reaction as always, and Chris is a monster.

Hey buddy ive just subscribed. Ill tell you the reason i dont sub and like often. The sub list i have is filled with the absolute best of what i like on KZbin anything im half hearted with i dont do as it clogs up the up the list and makes it harder to find the content i truly enjoy. This is the same philosophy i hold with the likes. I only like top tier vids that have great repeatability if i fill that list with vids that im watching but dont hold that tier of quality it makes it impossible to find a specific video i may have forgotten about a year ago etc. I know how this sounds. Like im a diva etc but I'm sure im not the only one. Lastly i held off subbing to you till i saw that you reacted to metal drummers more often than not

10:15 Okay, I've never recorded as a drummer, but I recorded in Hollywood once and I was so stoked for it. Out band had a 17-minute song (I would call us a jazzy, instrumental version of Zeppelin) and I was nailing it in one take, but about 15 minutes in came the bass solo section. We had 2 bassists and I had the first solo with a bunch of chords and these little harmonies with the guitar and accents with the drummer. I screwed that up bad. I was on a fretless and in the moment lost track of where I was and ended up about a half step off for the chords and slides. Thank god for punch ins.

I've been watching your vids for maybe a couple months now (and been subbed and liking each one since the first one I saw, btw ^_^), and I kept wondering if you'd ever seen or reacted to Chris. I believe in one of your recent vids, you'd said something about how Alex must be the pinnacle of playing for that style of music, and rightfully so, but I kept thinking, "Omg, Chis Turner. Has he heard Chris Turner?" So like two days ago, I did a search through your vids and found one reaction about him, so I was at least satisfied you knew who he was and saw his ridiculous talent. And now here he is again. Awesome. He's so disgustingly good, haha! Also, I completely appreciate the bit about getting near the end of a good take and then mind-****ing yourself. So true!

Every time I'm in studio, I try to focus on the music and the drums themselves. Just have feel the music and have fun. Otherwise, if I think about the fact that I'm recording I start focusing on that red light and stressing myself out. Pulls me completely out of the drumming headspace and then I make little mistakes. As always with music, I find everything is better if you just focus on and feel the music, rather than focusing on anything else.
