As you are probably aware thanks to users like Lungfull Drummer, this track by Blotted Science was created to score an unedited scene from a horror movie. Here is where the sync up still exists for this track: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ckphi Suffice it to say that Ron Jarzombek is a genius and the ability to create a composition that flows this well while studying camera cuts and panning and imagery... it’s like the old soundtracks to cartoons in the 50s but twisted and demented.

Hannes is an icon of modern metal drumming. He's the "new" Gene Hoglan in the sense that he plays with so many different bands and projects and he still finds time to do his solo stuff. He's a composer, he plays other instruments and he is an accomplished producer as well. And the dude's not even 40 yet!! Must be the famous German efficency at work. Good reaction! I like how he guides us with the "reduced" (relatively spoken in extreme metal) usage of the snare and bass drum. It feels replacive what drummers in the extended genre do, like you could play it to another track without rewriting it. I have a lot more joy when the drums support or even form the music! I also think there is something like...lets say "the magic of the pause". A not-played note can be as effectiv as a played one.

Hannes Grossmann is one my largest inspirations, his hand technique especially. He was the drummer who opened my eyes to the benefits of using wrists and fingers simultaneously when blasting, specifically the amount of power you can generate without excessive effort. He calls it "Hybrid Technique." He was also the drummer who played the very first blast beat I ever heard, which got me into playing extreme metal in the first place. The only other drummer who made that large an impact on my playing was Alex Rudinger, who was my introduction to open handed playing in extreme music.

The Bambi one was Spastic Ink (‘A Wild Hare’) which is the original band Ron who is the brains + guitars behind Blotted Science and his brother Bobby were in. Blotted, a bit of a supergroup, did a full length album then the follow-up EP this song is taken from is where the 4 songs were written to sync up to a corresponding movie scenes featuring bugs/alien bugs doing horrible things to humans. Some of them got taken down because of copyright I think but this one was from the movie Creepshow (1982), the others were King Kong (2005), Slither (2006) and Swarmed (2005). Ron also has some videos breaking down some of the music theory from them but it’s way over my head!
