thanks for reminding me about the awesomeness of the film scoring project. you may want to watch Cretaceous Chasm while remembering that King Kong footage was not edited and music was scored to the image.

As you are probably aware thanks to users like Lungfull Drummer, this track by Blotted Science was created to score an unedited scene from a horror movie. Here is where the sync up still exists for this track: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ckphi Suffice it to say that Ron Jarzombek is a genius and the ability to create a composition that flows this well while studying camera cuts and panning and imagery... it’s like the old soundtracks to cartoons in the 50s but twisted and demented.

Hannes is an icon of modern metal drumming. He's the "new" Gene Hoglan in the sense that he plays with so many different bands and projects and he still finds time to do his solo stuff. He's a composer, he plays other instruments and he is an accomplished producer as well. And the dude's not even 40 yet!! Must be the famous German efficency at work. While he is not my all time favourite skinsman, he's an endless source of inspiration...!!

Wow, wow, wow, that is like musical magic! Ron Jarzombek is a guitar mastermind of theory, accuracy and weird rhythms. When he plays with Hannes or his brother it’s magic. Like in the sense that people around get fooled and think it has to be an illusion- but it’s not. It’s real, people can be as talented as this.

Good reaction! I like how he guides us with the "reduced" (relatively spoken in extreme metal) usage of the snare and bass drum. It feels replacive what drummers in the extended genre do, like you could play it to another track without rewriting it. I have a lot more joy when the drums support or even form the music! I also think there is something like...lets say "the magic of the pause". A not-played note can be as effectiv as a played one.

Hannes Grossmann is one my largest inspirations, his hand technique especially. He was the drummer who opened my eyes to the benefits of using wrists and fingers simultaneously when blasting, specifically the amount of power you can generate without excessive effort. He calls it "Hybrid Technique." He was also the drummer who played the very first blast beat I ever heard, which got me into playing extreme metal in the first place. The only other drummer who made that large an impact on my playing was Alex Rudinger, who was my introduction to open handed playing in extreme music.

@@liliIiliIilil upon closer consideration i dont think his snare is triggered either. Usually its just a matter of seeing a trig attached but unless its hidden behind his hi hat he doesn't have one on. Sound-wise I get the feeling that we're hearing acoustic snare sound here too. It was half assumption on my part, as im sure we both well know how common triggered snares are with tech death bands etc....there is indeed no info beyond "recorded w 3 mics" on the original vid description.

@@DoggoWillink Grossman is indeed one of the greats. I feel "needs" is a relative word...above 200bpm there's almost no way to comprehend and hear footwork without trigs ya know? From both behind the kit as well as audience. Generally speaking tho how I think you meant, I agree this cat doesn't "need" anything. The drums need _him_ to bring their lives meaning. 😄Btw your name is a humorous reference. I've watched my share of Jocko pods

The Bambi one was Spastic Ink (‘A Wild Hare’) which is the original band Ron who is the brains + guitars behind Blotted Science and his brother Bobby were in. Blotted, a bit of a supergroup, did a full length album then the follow-up EP this song is taken from is where the 4 songs were written to sync up to a corresponding movie scenes featuring bugs/alien bugs doing horrible things to humans. Some of them got taken down because of copyright I think but this one was from the movie Creepshow (1982), the others were King Kong (2005), Slither (2006) and Swarmed (2005). Ron also has some videos breaking down some of the music theory from them but it’s way over my head!

If you think that's mindblowing, you should check how Blotted Science songs are composed. It's just not natural. They're composed from- and synched to- video. Check the origin to this song with the song overlayed: www.dailymotion.com/video/x2ckphi

Every time someone tells me jazz is the most advanced form of music I just send them any video for a metal drummer or guitarist

Jazz is definitely more advanced in the sense that metal drummers pull more inspiration from an older and more refined genre. Just based on time alone.

Hey, love the vids. I would suggest some female prowess and at the same time a change of pace of the extreme metal stuff (eventhough it is awesome to see all the bands i love come up, but it's good to shake things up a bit), although the following drummer plays in a metallic band, it is still very different, drummer Stefanie Mannaerts, band Brutus song WAR: Brutus "War" (Live at Rain City) kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3O1ioaigKmfrdU

The crazy part of this is that it syncs perfectly with a scene fron the movie "creepshow" where the scientist has a bit of a roach problem. Tom fills as lightning strikes, snares are like the roaches moving. Its insanely well done.
