One infamous bootlegger was California’s own Mike the MIC Millard. He would enter concerts in a wheelchair sitting on his Nakamichi 550 tape deck. Then when the lights would go down he would go to the eighth row and with two mics in his hat would record some of the greatest bootlegs of the 70’s and 80’s.

I have been Enjoying all Mike's recordings as of late. I'm a taper myself. Infact I use the same mics he used back then. RIP Mike "the Mike"

Dan Lampinski was a taper in the Northeast who made a lot of quality recordings that are near-Millard quality in the '70's. His recording of Pink Floyd from the cavernous, acoustically-challenged barn otherwise known as the old Boston Garden from 1977 is absolutely incredible. Millard was amazing, though.

Bonzo after a few jars was the biggest monster of all 😉 God rest his soul..Btw I was in Auckland in 2008 and saw a sign for Birkenhead on my way to Rangatoto..That tranquil Birkenhead is much nicer than the rough and raw bleak docks opposite across the river from Liverpool hehe...Just a thought, noticed the great 60s- 90s rock pop music comes from the tough dock/industrialized places, like Liverpool,Glasgow,Manchester,Birmingham,Belfast,London,Newcastle,Sheffield, here in UK anyway ...Seems like the grimier and tougher the future looked the more intense and obsession to guitar bands arose...Keep up the great videos.. 😊

In '84 and '85, a friend of mine had a book that described every Led Zeppelin bootleg recording ever published. We used to spend hours combing through that book wishing we could get our hands on some of those bootlegs. Who knew that 30 to 40 years later we'd be able find any of these bootlegs on KZbin for free?

Thanks Andrew for reacting to this. It made you smile so that is good. I know the audio was a little muddy - but as far as audience bootlegs go it is pretty good, I think. Someone worked on it to make it better. It is ART - performance art really!! and you're right - while certain sections of the song are pretty much the same from night to night with the Garnet Mimms song weaving in and out and some of the same covers from night to night (although they did vary the numbers that stuck in) - it is overall just a improv. Never the same twice. Unique to that performance. And this kind of format - sticking in covers of other songs - is something they would expand on over the years - in the improv sections of Dazed and Confused - Whole Lotta Love - Heartbreaker - How Many More Times. I think it what makes listening to the bootlegs and filmed live performances so wonderful. The intuition and trust and musicianship amongst them to pull it off!! And what makes them great. Thanks again for a great reaction.

This version is good, but the one to listen to is from three days before on April 24, 1969. On this particular version Bonzo's snare strands broke and his snare sounds pretty - I guess "flaccid"- is a good way to put it. The April 24 show, however, was recorded onstage with high end mics and the rhythm section is way higher in the mix than the vocals and guitar. Which is all well and good until Jonesy's amp blows up. But anyway....for a drumming perspective, check out the "Dancing Avocado" April 24, 1969 version. Bonzo's drums sound AMAZING.
