To put things in perspective, one of Jackson's many tours, the HiStory Tour ran from Sept '96 to Oct '97, 83 concerts (often one every other day in a different city and venue), and each had to be exactly the same. So, Moffett had to put the same intensity into each performance with absolutely perfect timing, showmanship, and precision. And as a drummer, he was active for each and every piece, night in and night out. 25 years later he's performing with the same precision and emotion and timing. This is something you can't teach. This is innate talent. At the highest level. The fact that he was the drummer for the last series of concerts Jackson was planning to perform is testimony to his credibility.

He plays one, can't remember which song it is, but dude goes for a solid 5 or 6 minutes, 1 and 3 on the kick, with a splash or hat accent here and there, and cuts loose with a cymbal swell every couple dozen bars or so, until the beat, and then, his most technical fill is a 2 bar 16 single stroke roll, but good luck playing the pattern with 1 foot lol. But point is, 5 or 6 minutes of 1/4s on the hats, and 1/2s on the kick, and not only does he never look bored, he manages to not make me bored watching him. I'd have went all Mike Portnoy ages ago for a minute lol. Sefl control, discipline, musicianship, experience, PAID

In drumming there is speed (as in being able to pump out 360 bpm single stroke 16th note rolls) and there is what I personally call "quickness", which is the ability to change from one playing surface to another that might be far away (in Sugarfoot's case, even behind him) without messing up timing, dynamics or anything. I'm not saying one is better than the other or that there aren't drummers who excel in both, I just want to point out that I look at both separately and find them equally impressive.

He's the master of that!

ANYONE who claims to be a professtonal drummer, experienced drummer, good drummer even, that watches this, and doesn't come away saying "Damn, I've got a lot to learn" is not any of the things I listed. Just AMAZING! Danny Carey is my favorite drummer, and my favorite music to play is prog. I'm absolutely blown away every single time I get to hear Sugarfoot. The absolute total control this man has over his instrument, and his total unending bass patterns, plus his almost religious service to the good of the song, being able to never deviate from a pattern for infinate bars, and make it interesting in other ways. His use of spacing, and dinamics are god tier. I could only hope to be this good. I do get to say that he and I have a good foot in common. then he woke up, got outta bed and sat down behind the kit, then we had nothing in common anymore. As long as he's asleep, and I'm playing my very best day ever, I can safely say that we both have a good foot in common. Only then lmao. Mine is pretty fast though, and I do play with that same sort of upper body drives the beat, but the legs lead the beat, and dance around the 1 with the kick. No, not out of time, just making it groove. Didn't pick that technique up from hearing him, but picked it up none the less, and it has served me well for 40 years now.

@@BBEDrummerAK Us folks who've been at this a while know just how opposite most people's perceptions are. The flashy guy, is the guy who uses the fills and all the fluff to keep him/her in time. The master doesn't need those tricks. I'm in the former catagory, not the latter lol. And of course, that's not indicative of every flashy drummer. Neil Peart, Danny Carey, are a couple that definately don't use flash as a timing tool. I'm one that does lol. The Phil Rudd's of the world are the one's I look up to the most, even if I play more like the guys I mentioned. No one knows without being a player, just how epic it is that Back In Black was recorded without being on a click. To hold a 4/4 for 4 minutes, never deviating, never rushing or slipping, is extraordinary! I can't do it, after 30 some odd years, not many can. Ole buddy here, is next level badass for what he DOESN'T play, not so much what he does, although what he plays is masterclass level.
