Thank you Andrew! :) It’s an expanded Roland VAD503 kit (TD-27) played through Superior Drummer 3 (VSTi) for analogue multisamples. Just built a Danny’ish kit in Superior for rehearsal purposes :) I’ve got a specced out TAMA Starclassic Performer as well, but it's not sustainable to play at my home studio with them neighbors close by, hehe.. Have not been playing regularly for the last 15 years or so, and having a high end digital setup at home means I can get back into shape. It’s been mad fun to take up drumming again this last year, can't believe I went 15 years without it. Not gonna happen again, that's for sure! Yea, quite tricky to keep the focus on a tune this long, soo many pitfalls, and things that can go wrong. Totally agree with you.. once you start thinking too much, it all falls apart. (Same thing with Jiu Jitsu btw. If you think, you are late. If you are late, you die) Got to just “Zen” it out, stay with the feel, in the moment, react to the music as a language. The morning I recorded this I did 3 takes in between coffee without the gopro’s running, felt very relaxed, clean, with great technical headroom. Once I pushed the record buttons though, ooh the pressure.. The inner dialogue starts, things stumble, hehehe. Think my third take that morning was better than the video take but no stress, it turned out quite nice anyway. It’s just practice as well, that's why I do it. Skill development! Learn so much taking on projects like this :) Anyway, thanks for checking it out, brother :) More content coming! I was so focused on the clock on the wall to see how long it took to put that all together. You said 15 years, And you comeback and rock that in a few hours? That's good stuff my Friend. @@bettyrose959 Been playing fairly regularly again for the last year now, coming off a 15 year hiatus. So no, did not just put it together in a few hours, hehe :) Lived in Bergen for many years, where I did not have the space for a drumkit. I always had my drumsticks near by, though. Often just practicing rudiments as a rythmic meditation kind of thing. When I moved back to Fredrikstad I finally got the chance/ space to build a homestudio and get back into it again. Just gonna use theese kind of projects to get back into shape. Been playing drums since I was a little kid, now 43. Anyway, glad you liked it! :) Thank you! :)

The improv transition to original was seamless..It truly added to the song. Honestly in the last month I'd say I've come to the conclusion that debating the best drummer in an exercise in talking out of the Chocolate Megaphone..there have been 4, that I've never heard of and blew me away, in the last month, after discovering these drum covers 5 or so years ago and watching religiously ...and listening consciously to music since right around spring of 1967..2 1/2 yrs old is the demarcation line of where on the billboard charts the songs are ingrained in my mind .Some sort of music has been on generally my whole life. How many extraordinary drummers exist in a virtual vacuum with the only escape being the KZbin shuttle that only picks up when the Divine Intervention signal is in the sky from Drum Man.

Aside from the intro, where there’s no percussion, in the original track, it was so good, I couldnt tell for sure what was different! Nicely done!

In no way this is a diss on Frode or Danny, not implying this is an easy song to play, still, I think it's among the ones where you are likely to figure the song structure and rhythm somewhat intuitively. Some others are likely to require way more counting. Again, not a diss by any means. But I love the additions, feel very "natural", whatever that means... you know, nature can go pretty psycho easily...

Yeah, I'm not so sure how much counting is involved on the general. I think a lot is put together on feel and hashing it out in the rehearsal space. You can get into fairly complex patterns this way. Jazz guys do it all the time. There's nothing magical about 4/4, just what you get used to. Not heard Danny speak on this specifically, but remember a interview with Thomas Haake. Meshuggah is by many labeled as "math-metal", but Haake said exactly this.. there's no counting, or building song structures on paper. It comes out of riffs, drum patterns, rehearsal, feel. The complexity then is really not that complicated for the individuals tuned in on the matrix. I do agree, that the reverse engineering by an outsider can be tricky, and counting can be a great tool and gateway to understanding the structure. But if you are used to hearing/ playing "complex" patterns you can also just go by feel and repetition. Also agree that they have other songs with more complexity than Schism. Did not take it as a diss btw, think it's very interesting. :) Anyway, thanx for the nice words, brother! Glad you liked the additions 😎🙏

I have to say that i didnt like the adlib part at the start. Tool drum parts are almost impossible to improve upon and spaces are left for a very good reason. That said, the adlib in the middle was pretty cool. a great cover!

Yeah, I was not sure if I was gonna put the opening part in there, did not put a lot of thought or work in to it.. like I wrote, just adlib'ish. But ended with "what the hell" just do, it's a creative drum cover after all. The middle part is where I spendt some time working. But totally agree, spaces are left there for a reason.
