You sir are not only a master at your craft, but a master educator as well. As others have said - if only more KZbin videos were this well thought out and done. I didn't really even have an interest in this particular how to video (it started playing by itself after a different video) but your teaching method made me stop what I was doing and watch the entire video. Very, very well done.

Thanks for uploading, I don't have any special pliers, I always used a laser or machine guided with special diamond bits. I recently got some handheld cutters and wasn't sure how to use the notches/wheel etc. So thanks for the tips... Most people think the harder something is, the more pressure and sharper it needs to be. When something is harder, it can break or shatter more easily such as tempered. Tempered glass is stronger and won't break as easily for sure, or in as sharp tiny pieces. It has different challenges in my experience. Its basically the same and i just go slower and score of the glass more.

Good tutorial. Retired glazier gives thumbs up. Deaf people need not score? Never thought of that, but kinda true. They'd have a bigger learning curve, for certain.
Glazier Exam, never went to school, only working in the industry, I have to say your Video has given me more information on how to cut glass then I have recieved working 10 years in the industry.... we just don't cut glass, for the most part, we order our mirrors and glass units already cut, tempered, tinted, coated, and delievered... Industry Standard, but at School, they emphasize Glass Cutting Specialty Cutting, like it is what you are going to be exposed to out in the "Real" world....

Thanks for posting, great video! I am not so good with the traditional glass cutter tool and am wondering if a sheet of glass could be cut using my rotary tool and a diamond coated cutting wheel, or would the speed be too much stress on the glass? Hi Drew, not wishing to be rude, in the video at 2.56 it states on the side of the cutter mitsuboshi. I was looking closely as I would like the best cutter for making some lampshades. Found your videos to be very concise and clear. Thanks, Wi
@drumalone931211 жыл бұрын
No problem because to my surprise you are right, that is a Mitsuboshi in my hand!!!.Please pass the crow. I sold those cutters for several years in the shop because they were considerably less expensive than the Toyo at the time but ABOUT the same quality. Not as good as a Toyo but about $10 less, then. Now they run about the same as a Toyo so I have not sold them for several years. Still have a few sitting around the cutting table waiting to use them up. With the foam cozy on them they are hard to tell apart. So good eye there Wi. Thanks for looking so closely. But my advice stands on the best cutters-Toyo. No matter what handle style you get they all share the same wheel except the TC-21. their tap wheel cutter. Although the tap wheel was designed for thicker glass some art glass craftsmen like it, Mainly for the handle. It has the most versatile handle in Toyos' line. Keep your cutter rolling, Dru

Need to cut the plate border off without breaking it all into small pieces (the border is what I will actually use for the project. Probably in thirds or fourths). Your round cut here gives me a sense of how to tackle it but... any tips on how to do that on plates which are not smooth like the glass you cut here?
