The george way line that Ronn is putting out is absolutely the best bang for buck you’ll get. I’ve got a 14x6.5 in million dollar blue and it beats out most of my other fancier snares. Wouldn’t hesitate to buy another. Great list fellas!

The DW, Gretsch Steel, and George Way project the fattest note to the room mics, which I like a lot. The REAL surprise, and one of my favorites, was the Canopus. The reality is, they are ALL good, including the "SleeperLite". 😁

@CraigShawCraigShawАй бұрын
It took me getting older to realise this, you don’t need expensive gear. I’ve heard plenty of big hits with janky ol’ snare drum sounds you can replicate on a cheap steel snare drum. You just have to know how to tune them and you need decent heads. Having said that, I’m loving the fat sound of that Noble and Cooley Cherry shell 😍

I love the Yamaha winner in the Best Yamaha from 8 years ago" category. That sort of sums it up for me. So many great drums. Can anyone really pick a winner? Like who is the best drummer?? You guys are great.
@jean-lucemanuele7095Ай бұрын
As a sound guy I have to thank you for your recordings and the quality of them but also point out on how the Sonor kick sounds different between the dw snare and the last one, the George Way. It sounds like two different days, or two different mics, mic positioning, EQ, compression or a forgotten plug or side compression. Make a quick comparaison, you'll be surprised. After the Ludwig kit, the return of the Sonor stinks, but what a kick, excellent choice to make every snare shine !
@tinterlandeАй бұрын
All of these recordings are from different sessions (you can tell by my shirts). While the bass drum and floor Tom are the same, they were set up from scratch each time, hence why they sound different. Thanks for the kind words though.
@jean-lucemanuele7095Ай бұрын
@@tinterlande Your honesty adds to the love and respect that I have for you guys. You do an excellent job and having your "caverne d'Ali Baba" close to my home would be amazing but for my bank account. A piece of advice though, why don't you choose a configuration, let say a floor tom and bass drum and keep it as a reference for a full year, and the same for the mics and the electronic chain. That would allow for a fair comparaison among the cymbals et the snares. The Sonor kit would be a perfect start, that bass drum is a dream, specially "mixed" like you do with the dw snare. Sexy and punchy as hell. We need to be able to compare to choose. Once again, thanks for your passion and dedication.

One again, Ludwig showing why their supraphonic is the most recorded snare drum in history. Whether it's a brass or aluminum chrome plated shell, the supraphonic wins hands down. Good enough for Mr. Steve Gadd throughout the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and even the 90s, it's good enough for anyone who calls themself a drummer.. Outside of the Ludwig, Noble & Cooley and Tama bell brass are absolutely phenomenal..

The Sonor and Dunnett cast bronze drums would have sounded better if tuned higher IMO. The Tama anniversary cast bronze sounded better, but it seemed to be tuned higher. Lots of good drums here, but I presume “best of the year” has as much to do with clearing out select inventory than showcasing the best drums of the year. The DW, Noble$Cooley, and Keplinger were standouts, and I was surprised that the Way drum sounded so good. That little Canopus had some presence for a 4” deep drum.
