It wasn't just that BD was clean in terms of rhythm - attacks and releases, etc. They were also super in tune and had a big, balanced sound. I loves me some crown, but BD's hornline was ridiculous. Now that Crown has finally proven themselves, got a championship, and are not demoted purely because of politics, I try to think less about who-scored-what, and more about "this is some friggin epic music - let me get this in my soul."

Scheater5 Ridiculous is 1:39 when the bari's, euph's, and tubas put down their instruments and pick up a TRUMPET for the hottest horn licks in DCI this summer. ....and second place for hottest horn lick isn't even close.... Let's review; entire horn line on trumpet or mello, spread out over 35 yards back field, playing the sickest syncopation with the sickest mello runs cutting through the ensemble, and stacking the sickest 3 octave high brass cord I've ever heard. There was no comparison this year for repertoire, because for the hottest horn section of the whole show, most of the horn line WASN'T ON THEIR OWN INSTRUMENT!!!!!!!

To me, Crown is at the forefront. For the 2014 show to not be at least top two, crazy! For them not to win in '09, nuts! They will break through I hope, but they may have to do something drastic and unexpected. Lost respect for DCI and their unregulated or supervised judging many times since early 2000s, but it just gets worse every year. The fact that this hornline did NOT win the Jim OTT trophy was nothing but shady stuff going on in press box in parking lot, at band camps, promised jobs whatever. UNREAL!! This hornline was better than the 2013 hornline yet somehow scored worse and lost the brass trophy. This was the best hornline I have ever ever ever heard live in DCI. Again it comes back to what I believe is DCI feeling pressure from BD especially when BD loses the year before. You can go back to 2000 cadets for instance. Great hornline great show and won brass trophy, however everyone with any ears including members and staff knew that the 01 hornline was far cleaner and more talented than the 00 hornline yet lost to BD in brass at finals. It is just stupid. This Crown 14 hornline how they did not win brass nevermind the show is just beyond me. Please don't tell me how their show is reason they did not win. How did BD win brass like every year mid 80s early 90s with 4th and 5th place finishes? BD should have walked across the field and gave the JIm OTT to Crown. Even if you were a member of BD hornline in 14 you knew Crown was better. Anyone with any musical sense at all knows it.

I fully agree as well. The judging at DCI has gotten worse and worse every year, and this year was no exception. I don't believe that Crown should have won this year, but taking 5th place with a hornline like that... Something is definitely going on behind the performances on those judging panels..
@NickOnFire14908 жыл бұрын
I agreed with you, but you have to admit that Felliniesque was about as close to perfect as you can get. did they deserve perfect GE and visual and nearly perfect music? probably not. but they did an amazing job, and they deserved 1st
@samanthabree12467 жыл бұрын
wow. totally agree. that 01 cadets brass was amazing. actually, i felt like 00 bd was ahead of the cadets but the cavies smoked both on those g bugles (a tie between Cadets on Bb and Cavies on G). That's why in the end its not about who wins... its about the legacy of your show. I love 1990 and 1992 BD. When those guys that marched those years here that I listen to their music in the car, it puts a smile on their face. Thats what Drum Corps all about: leaving it all on that field for the enjoyment of the crowd and for fans to treasure your work for years. Hell, thats what all art is about.
@jayd13427 жыл бұрын
BD and Cadets should have flipped years on the brass trophy. BD should have won 00 and cadets 01. 00 finals performance of cadets there were cracks and over playing all over. Cadets 01 hornline was flat out the best hornline in DCI that year. Nobody created that clean sound again until Crown in the late 2000s. 90s BD hornlines to me are still the best of all time. From 1992 through 1999 every BD hornline was just amazing to listen to.
