This was a fun deviation from the normal reaction video. Drumeo , Rick Beato, and David heretic are my favorite music channels on KZbin because they're real musicians educating me.

You should check out The Daily Doug! He’s another great reaction channel musician that breaks it down real good 😉

I'm not sure if you realize, but this is David's 4th reaction to a Drumeo video.

Those three are fantastic. I would also include low end university (another bass player) and charismatic voice (vocals) as two more excellent educational reaction channels, maybe key of geebz for a composers perspective.

Denny C was really trying to make the pieces fit to Danny C. His instincts were on the nose. Two legends.

I absolutely freakin' love Drumeo. Their ep with Chad Smith hearing the 30 Seconds to Mars track and just GOING WITH IT without even hearing it one time through was amazing.

Not a complicated as Tool, but Chad absolutely nails it without listening through the track at all. Incredible improvisation.

This is HIGH LEVEL musicianship. I love these types of videos. Seeing how top tier musicians do their work.

I'm happy that you acknowledged the near impossible task that was handed to Dennis here by whipping up impromptu drum parts for a Tool song when Danny Carey probably spent months crafting the original. However, I have to say I think you scored Dennis too low in my opinion. Considering what he was asked to do which is to listen to a drumless version of a Tool track one time and just jump into it blind, you should've graded him on a curve. Larnell Lewis, Todd Sucherman and Thomas Lang all had it way easier not just because the songs they were tackling were easier, but because they all got to listen to the track with the drums beforehand. In any case, I did enjoy you pointing out Dennis' adjustments to the tricky time signatures as he was playing. It really shows what a pro he is. Also, it was cool you appreciated certain things he did, especially considering that he was doing all that on the fly. And I did enjoy that Spongebob Squarepants edit during you listening to "Schism" again with it ending with the "You get the idea" card and line. That was funny. So, even though I disagree with your score as I think Dennis should've been graded on a curve, I did enjoy the video.

Dave, you pointing out Dennis' struggle with the time signatures at the start was something I didn't notice the first time viewing. I knew something was off, but I'm terrible with time signatures and couldn't figure out what was "wrong"

The actual drumming performance is awesome because it's Dennis Chambers and he's amazing. But, because I know this song so well and have the drums locked in my mind, I can't separate it out. In conclusion, his drumming is excellent, but my ears say NO! STOP! THAT'S WEIRD! LOL..

Imagine trying to cover Tool on drums without hearing the drum track, and constantly hearing "I know the pieces fit" as you desperately try to make a drum pattern fit😂 This had to be absolute torture. He held his own and made some really brilliant moments despite the struggle. Kudos to him for even attempting this blind. 8.2 is a very appropriate score. Nice job DH!

Vindication for counting time signatures. 😆Seriously, though, it's helpful stuff. Just recently, I had yet another example of noticing different time signatures in a familiar song, so now I like that song even more.
