Freddie Gruber is known as the teacher of iconic drummers such as Neil Peart, Vinnie Colaiuta, Steve Smith, Dave Weckl, and my guest Bruce Becker. Freddie has somewhat of a mysterious background that wasn't well documented, but Bruce fills us in on what is known about his life and career, plus many great stories of what it what it was like to be on the inner circle of his friends. Freddie was a real character of a person and you really get a feel for that with this episode.

But can you find even one single recording of Freddie *actually* playing drums? I found one video of him on a drum pad, and it was thee most amateur “drumming” I have ever seen from someone claiming to be a drummer.

I grew up in Canoga park, I started getting drum lessons at the Music stop in 1978 when I started playing the drums!

Great talk! Although I bet rare are people who do some good work and do not have an ego/attitude. I can’t stand that! At all! I would have humiliated Freddie if he allows himself to insult me or talk to me aggressively… You loose all your credibility whenever you act like shit.

I just want to *see* Freddie Gruber actually play drums. There are just no recordings of this guy whatsoever. I found one video of Freddie drumming on a pad, and it was thee worst technique and most amateur playing I’d ever seen.
