This is total B.S.! I cant believe Dex would go along with this. I was part of the music industry in the late 90's early 2000's. I managed several bands. I lived 4 houses down from Dex in H.B.. I know Pete and the rest of the guys. For the life of me I cannot understand why this group of guys would conform to the narrative lock step with everyone else. I think with most anything that considers itself a counter culture rebellion, it's a tall order to expect the punk / HC scene to have coexisted with any ideas or people within it that didn't fall in line with an overall preset narrative. Bands or artists can go on about their stances in the liner notes of an album or on-stage, but in the end it probably wasn't much more than the caveman logic of certain ideologies not being popular within a music scene, because they're unpopular, so don't ask questions, just consume approved product messaging and get excited with your friends for next product / album... A counter culture by its very nature doesn't coexist with disagreement. It struggles like its got an external existential crisis on its hands 24 / 7. Siege mentality. I think like with academia the whole HC music scene just paid lip service to critical thinking because it fit (and sold) the image better than being a recruitment vehicle for lockstep political indoctrination over 3 decades.

Punk is no longer. I followed hard core from the mid-1980s, and it was all about being yourself and not mindlessly conforming to whatever narrative was going on in society for the sake of fitting in. Offspring came about later (late stage punk era), and just like the Foo Fighters, they went all in on getting the experimental medical treatment in 2021. Really sad.

Things to consider. In case others have already commented, I apologize for being redundant. First: this is solely my opinion, but Offspring stink. Always have. They are considered "pop punk" or "skate punk". Not truly a punk band like Ramones, The Clash or Sex Pistols. They are NEVER mentioned in conversations about those bands, and i don't think Adam (god bless him) really knows anything about those bands other than to build up his musical street cred like being a John Hyatt fan and calling Limp Bizkit talentless without ever considering what Wes Borland contributed. Next: Typically, offspring are mentioned more with bands like Blink -182 (who's drummer is married to a Kardashian), and Green Day who make musicals now. Not very punk. All three of these bands are also the benchmark of not only the "Three Chord" music style (which god love Adam) is not talented musicianship but it is simply following a recipe. Moreso: Dexter is a business man before anything else. He owns a Cessna (which I don't need to mention later that he got sued for not making payments on it in 2014), he also owns a mediocre hot sauce brand called Gringo Bandito. Many people like Adam (god bless him) see this as being cleverly entrepreneurial. Most just see it as money grubbing sellout type of stuff. Yes: I could easily make this an "Adam just chases celebrities" argument. But who cares. We would too if given the opportunity. Its been played out and adam has his explanations for all of that. Ultimately: offspring is a business, think about the business you work for, or maybe one your buddies work for. Probably got fired or let go for not complying to whatever the soup of the day was. Not sticking up for Dexter or Offspring, just pointing out the fact that they're CEOs and NOT musicians. Not counter culture or anything else. I appreciate Adam (god bless him) for having the nuts to be disappointed in Dexter et al. Fuck those guys and I bet they look pretty fuckin dumb right now. We do live in an upside down world right now, i agree. But at this point, I don't think there's a SINGLE celebrity in our upside down world who isn't going to let you down anymore.
