I never saw her sing. She was one of the funniest and raunchiest comedians ever. I saw her many times on The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. One of a kind.

So happy to see this one being featured and reacted to. Moms Mabley is one of the greatest comedians ever. I loved seeing her whenever she came on tv. Whoopi Goldberg did an amazing documentary about her life on HBO I think. Truly one-of-a-kind. Thanks 🙏 Lee for introducing her to a new generation !

Wow, I didn't know she sang. I had only heard Dion's version of this song, and only knew her as a comedian. Great find Johnny F, thanks. Great reaction as always, Lee. Blessings all.

It is odd to see this side of her since mostly she performed her comedy "stuff". Beautiful rendition though. So heartfelt.

I remember seeing this on the Merv Griffin show. It was a devastating time in United States history, and everyone was pretty broken up at the time. The first time I heard the song was Dion DiMucci on the Ed Sullivan show. This song helped a lot of people heal from all of the emotional wounds.

Moms Mabley was a hilarious comedian even her voice was comical but she sounds like a female version of Louis Armstrong. She is so clear in her version of Dion’s song. Just beautiful and poignant in every way. OMG All murdered for people to have the right to be free.

I’ve only heard Dion’s version. It’s the one they played on the radio. Moms was really funny. You should hear her comedy. Merv Griffin had a talk show and created a lot of game shows. Like Wheel of Fortune.

man, this tune really pulls at your heart---at the missed opportunities, all the things that could've been to push our society and world ahead for the better. We took a huge step backwards. If anything, their deaths showed us the possibilities, to inspire us to pick up where they left off

I was 10 when Martin Luther killed. I think I've heard this song by her when I was pretty young, BUT this killed me tonight. This song makes me cry every dang time I hear anyone sing it. I was a young girl and remember every assassination in my childhood. JFK in first grade in class and it was being broadcast. It was so sad. Everyone was crying. I didn't fully understand of course but it had such a profound life impact on me. I was older when John Lennon killed and had grown up on the beatles. That whole 15 years including the 60s revolution... Wow THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TONIGHT 🎶🥰

never too early to weep for the things that could've been. spirit never dies, as long as we can be inspired by their ideals and do something to make this world a little better.

Heard this one sung by Marvin Gaye (who himself ended up killed by gunfire in a tragic family showdown) - this is such a poignant song. 💙💙 All three of these men (and arguably Marvin, too) have long since reached the status of global icons, not just American heroes.

I know this song done by a male singer...I wanna say BJ Thomas, but I'm not sure. I've always loved it. Such important lyrics and message. I never heard this version. Boy... bringing me to tears.

Obviously, I was not alive in this present body at least, when our 16th POTUS Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on April 14, 1865 (less than a full week after the end of the American Civil War). However, I remember quite clearly the untimely and horrific murders of the other three men (Pres. JF Kennedy - '63, Robert F. Kennedy - '68 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - '68). I was a young college freshman in '63 and a teacher in public school in '68. No words can express the anguish associated with these events, and though the era of the 60's was so cool and uplifting in so many ways (music especially), the dark cloud of these assassinations hung heavy over the United States and for those of us who were alive then our lives were changed forever.

I was gonna just blurt out Reconstruction!!. Not that you would hear me. But you nailed it with 30 seconds to spare..ding ding ding. But holy crap, Jackie "Moms" Mabley! Now you're diving deep. She was funny as all hell, a female Redd Foxx. Yes, Malcolm should have been added to the list. And it has grown since. Speak truth, "they" kill you. Bobby would have been elected easily and then reopened the investigation into the murder of his brother. Nope. I think that was Merv Griffin, have to rewatch. He had a couple of semi-hit records in the 50's or 60's. Don't react to them. Please
