@@OwenAlec ▶BTW-Adam Rupp's never really had time to learn be a solo beatboxer, as a constant touring country-ish/soul/pop a cappella group. He learned on his own in Minneapolis, Minnesota, looking up rapper related things as the new beatboxer while growing their new a cappella grp, while in college to study music, w/his brother Chris Rupp (b4 UTube tutorials were a thing). ▶They did mostly soul/pop, added Rob/beard, did some country, but when Southerners Tim/Texas + Austin/Georgia joined, more country added. Later added Chance to replace Chris who wanted to go solo (many projects + a new grp w/their sister Tristin: awesome 7th Ave Band -on their chl + his own Reaction chl) ▶Home Free are all songwriters, arrangers, multi-instrumentalist. Adam plays solid trumpet, guitar, bass, piano/keys + a little drums. He'd beaboxed for experience in clubs ("Adam Rupp vs Drummer", etc) + sat in w/local bands, playing diff. instruments WHILE between early gigs + going to University. ▶They finally began getting cruise ship gigs + touring the MidWest + growing. Adam's original training was in trumpet, and I believe he's said that that helped him learn the breath control he needed to do something like this, or to keep the beat going throughout a whole song. As the others said, this is an older video - it's the one most people react to, so it has the most hits, so it gets more reactions. One day it might be interesting to react to a newer video and compare them, perhaps - but for now, thank you for this, and I hope you get the chance to react to more of Home Free's music in the future.

Adam is a freak of nature. Yes, he does a lot of those sounds while inhaling which is crazy. I often forget he’s doing the percussion while they’re singing - it sounds so good. I loved your reaction. Keep reacting to Home Free. By the way, all the guys can do some beatboxing.
@BSGNative4 жыл бұрын
The HF guys are usually available in chat prior to premiering their videos. During one of those chats, someone asked Adam how long it took him to learn to beatbox. His reply was, "I'm still learning." I've heard him described as a human drum kit. With all the other sounds he can make, I think he's more like a human synthesizer! One video where I think you can really hear his drumming is "God Bless the USA" with Lee Greenwood & the USAF Singing Sergeants. He also does a jet flyover at the end! Like you mentioned, I think it's amazing that he can do 2 or 3 sounds at the same time - or at least it sounds like it's at the same time!
@matthewireland11254 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the analysis. It brought out some points that I would not have noticed on my own. When you consider that this was over 5 years ago, he has only gotten better. To me he has the most realistic set of sounds when doing percussion. And yes you do get a lot more bass presence in person. The phone recordings don't catch the depth.

Adam was a trumpet performance major in college. They are taught circular breathing. That’s how to breathe while still playing. I think his trumpet playing and mouth positions with the tongue added in this makes it the perfect prep for a beatboxer.
@plastix60414 жыл бұрын
As a trumpet player myself I can confirm that playing trumpet does help with basic beatboxing and that we are indeed taught circular or stagger breathing, but it is extremely difficult. I have been practicing for years and I still cannot do it. Having the trumpet pressed against your lips helps because you are squeezing your cheeks muscles in to force the air to go out your mouth while you breathe in through your nose.
@jackmandu4 жыл бұрын
Another benefit of playing trumpet is the double and triple tonguing that you learn. I played trumpet of a number of years and after hearing Adam Rupp for the first time, I literally thought, I wonder if he played trumpet? I found out later that he majored in it.

As many others have pointed out this is a fairly old video. Adam is constantly working on his beatboxing skills and, based on the videos Home Free has put out during the pandemic, it seems like he’s come up with lots of new sounds. His newer solos are more polished and even more diverse. The first time I saw them live they were all fantastic, but I was in awe of Adam’s beatboxing.
@JanSkaggs Жыл бұрын
It’s great to hear a real drummer react to this. I get so irritated when a reactor who has no idea of what an actual drum solo would sound like gives a negative reaction to Adam. Actually I’ve only heard one person react negative and I obviously did not trust their knowledge of music to subscribe to their channel. I just cannot imagine the time that has gone into learning this but feel Adam must also have a gift for this “talent”. I love it! My favorite sound from Adam (aside from his actual singing which I also love) is the harmonica. I find it amazing that the sound comes from his vocal cords to make vocal chords. Thanks for the great reaction. I love it when people agree with the things that impress me. It is nice to know I didn’t get it wrong.

So just have to point out although it may be obvious to some, another incredible aspect of his breath control is that he is doing this at the end of their show, so this is after having done it for the last 1-2 hours! Another incredible point is that there are videos of the live shows and he isn’t just standing still while doing this! He is actually dancing and he even has Moonwalking going on a few all continuing to hold down the beat. One of the most impressive thing to me about Adam is that gives the song exactly what it needs and does not overdo or overwhelm the song or detract from it, but enhances it. It is just phenomenal! Now that is true control! Thank you for your reaction!

This is a great video. Two or three others have been posted since then that will let you see how much he has improved even since this came out. Just curious if you could replicate this on your drum set based on his vocalizations. I read somewhere that he learned to play the drums so he could add the visuals to his beatboxing, which he taught himself specifically for Home Free when it was first started in 2000/2001. They became much more widely known through Season 4 of The Sing-Off in 2013. One of the judges said he was a good drummer because he didn't add a lot of things that a drummer wouldn't do.
