And she was a phenomenal guitar player. Ask anyone.

Just discovered this treasure. Like you, she grew up even closer to me in Landover Hills, Prince Georges County MD. She moved there from Oxen Hill. Anyhow, yes, such a tragic story bc: 1. She could sing ANY genre she chose and be at the top of her game. 2. She died at such a young age. 3. She reached her stardom posthumously. I always thought The Allman Brothers Band OWNED Stormy Monday, still do. After hearing EC perform that song I would definitely move her in the #2 spot..... that's a mouthfull! Recently purchased her CD's, NOT A BAD SONG ON ANY OF THEM. RIP Eva Cassidy, you are loved beyond all measure. Your vocal bought tears to this 67 year-old's eyes, numerous times.... TY.

Eva was such a towering talent and a true original. Her music will live on like a Mozart and a Chopin and all of the musical geniuses throughout history. Thank you for sharing and keeping her music and memories of her out there. Her music and story make us want to be better and to do more. One of a kind.

She’d never registered in the UK until a morning radio DJ , Terry Wogan, pioneered her music . If it hadn’t been for him we would have remained in ignorance. Both have since passed. RIP.

She just was too lovely to be in this dimension anymore and transitioned to where she was meant to go. An Exceptional Talent, a Beautiful Soul! If you have never heard her rendition of Christine McVie’s “Songbird,” it will change your perception of really loving another Soul. ❤

Funny this is what people did with their feelings, they made and followed art. Longing pain loneliness it’s all part of life . Life can’t be easy but great music , we can hear great music. Sweetheart I was a flipping nightmare as a youth but that was a couple lifetimes ago. Process your memories- don’t live there. You’re obviously a perceptive person, be glad you feel deeply. The callous ruin the world ☮️

Such a haunting interpretation of this song! Lee, I'm in the county next to you, Montgomery, and yeah, Eva was something else. What a voice and tone and breath control, what a set of pipes she had. I had seen Eva's name in the night club listings back then but never knew who she was, never saw her. I only really discovered her when it was too late when she was already ill 😢 I was able to meet her band members though, they are all great folks. Eva had such an impact upon this world---and it's a lonelier, uglier, harsher world without her music and voice around.

There is a video about that show, with all the other musicians talking about what led up to it and how it went. Lenny Williams, the pianist, said Eva kind of left it up to him how to approach the solo. He said he was afraid to do anything because, as he put it, it felt like "drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa" because of the beauty of what Eva was doing by herself. Then he pointed out that he sat out completely after the solo.

Thank you for this reaction. It means a lot. I would love if you could search for "San Francisco Bay Blues" --- Eva Cassidy. It was recorded somehow in an open air thing where she was singing this. (And watch her incredible guitar playing if you can find it)

Most all the video of Eva preforming came from just one night, and was unplanned , how fortunate that the amateur video surfaced a few years after her popularity grew in England.

Beautiful reaction to a beautiful song by one of my favorite artists. HEY: Please react to either "Golden Thread" (from Songbird) or "How Can I Keep From Singing". These two songs are different from what you've heard her do. The power of her voice is . . . stunning. I'm not a Patreon, but . . .

Everything she sings is amazing but she sings one song in particular where she takes her vocals into the stratosphere it's titled had IA golden thread , It'll blow your headphones off your head ! She passed from the same type of cancer as Bob Marley did !

Her version of "Fields Of Gold" rivals Sting's original. In my opinion. How she never hit it big during her lifetime seems to reflect the shortsightedness of the industry, and the tragedies often befallen true greatness....

Autumn Leaves was written in 1945. Music was by Joseph Kosma. Original French lyrics were written by Jacques Prévert. English lyrics were added by Johnny Mercer. I’m afraid Hoagy Carmichael had nothing to do with Autumn Leaves.

"Feuilles mortes" is pronounced "foy mort". French is weird that way.

I hear you honey. I have only feeble ideas for you: One is very much in the mental area -- this guy has a lot of youtube videos that are pretty great. I only saw a few, but I'm telling you as somebody who has been in therapy for 40 years, this guy could have saved me a lot of time: Dr. Scott Eilers. Another is in the realm of why are any of us even here -- if you're ever in the mood for church - like "why are we here" -- like maybe this: Honestly, this was so disturbing for me, as a Christian. I am still in the idea of: we are all in the same conscious awareness This is AMAZING. (this was disturbing for me, but I think it's true. And maybe it's less upsetting for people who didn't start as Christians.) kzbin.info/www/bejne/anLWk3akfdGhrac

She had a beautiful voice no doubt, but I find her choices for the melody to be nearly unrecognizable to the original song. Still lovely, but I would never ID it as “Autumn Leaves” w/out the lyrics. 🤷♀️
