Starlight is the first of a trilogy of three songs (Starlight, Shine, Arkadia) that are meant to be an emotional journey through the struggles the band had in 2018 and their decision of continue on this road (the departure of the band member Yuimetal, the death of the Kami Band guitar player Mikio Fujioka, amateur astronomy aficionado who died on an accident while stargazing with his wife). Even if never stated officially, this is an obvious tribute to the late Fujioka-sensei, just listen what they are saying on that little part towards the end.

Starlight! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! The emotional repercussions of listening to this song! Its sorta a shame, but only fitting, that they made this song sooooo well! From an objective POV, this song is as you say soooooo good and just beautiful! But even with that its not one I frequently seek out because it just makes me choke up almost every time I hear it! However! For me, this is the song that truly displays the vocal chops of our girl Su! That first "Naaaaa na na nanana!" is just so explosive! And then those super quick staccato verses with a pretty complex melody...only to go back to that explosive but beautiful chorus with the high "Fly!!!! Higher in the sky!" And then the soft Bridge before the last chorus, with its obviously intended lyrics....Ahhhh...I just really love everything about this song (except its reason for conception and the emotions that inevitably come with listening to it!)!!! As people have already said, Starlight is the first of 3 songs that make the Trilogy of Light, with each representing a stage of the process of grief. Starlight is loss and the devastation that comes with it. Shine is the transition between the devastation and acceptance. And Arkadia is where, even though the memory remains, you move on towards a brighter future! All exceptional songs! Please do give them a reaction!? Lol! Good reaction! They released this song in their most difficult time, first they lost Mikio, and then Yuimetal decided to leave the band, that must be the reason why MV's of this song and "Distortion" were a bit strange and the girls did not appear. But in their recent shows, the MV's are projected on the backdrop, adding incredible visual effects to these two excellent songs.

Damn this song nails so many levels of musicality. The repetition of the choral vocals overlayed with the main vocals, the metal, and I really enjoy how the phrasing of the main vocal line slows down in the verses and into the chorus. Of course, the song is greater than the sum of those parts, which usually means I've found a new favorite song! This isn't just a song; this is a composition, AND it hits.

There's a great mourning propelling this song, a wailing about terrible things that happened. Don't forget, this is coming from a band with teenage girls, that was mostly very playful and positive in their repertoire. Rude awakenings, and they fought through it the way true artists do. They used this great song and others to express their misery, and that, in my eyes, made them truly very grown up.

You may be interested in Ijime Dame Zettai it's a really good song, also it was a big turning point for the band when they played Live at Sonisphere 2014, UK and the video they made of that presentation was precisely IDZ, it also has a very cool message against bullying. Many of the fans believed this was a tribute for their late guitarist Mikio who passed away. I think it was just pure coincidence. Also the fact that one of the girls left the band around the same time made it even sadder.

Now that you're into Babymetal, sooner or later you have to do the other three metal/hard rock bands from Asia which presently are conquering KZbin: The Hu, Ningen Isu and BANDMAID. Some recommendations which hopefully don't spoil anything. The Hu is a Mongolian metal band which uses traditional instruments and singing to stunning effect. Two of their videos went viral, but I recommend the one with less views because it is more hardcore: Wolf Totem. Ningen Isu is a Japanese metal band which lingered in relative obscurity for 30 years before one of their songs went viral. They have lots of solid stuff, but I still recommend the one that brought them fame, Heartless Scat. Finally, BANDMAID is a Japanese hard rock band who can really play their instruments, especially live. It's a bit hard to pick which one to recommend. If you want to try one of their more hardcore songs, try "Moratorium". But, since you're a drummer, you might want to try "Rinne" first. However, if you want to see them at the top of their game, watch "onset (Apr. 23th, 2018)" first.

This is one of the best computation videos I've seen. It has very good audio but, you get the up close, small stage view. I'd like to get your reaction to the drummer and his solo in the beginning. This is not a Tribute to Mikio. There has been no official Babymetal tribute song. This was just a fanboy rumor that ran wild. Aside from they "Starlight" name, it has nothing to do with him. Remember, their gimmick is the Fox God from Space. If anything his tribute should be "No Rain No Rainbow" Live from Hiroshima Dec 2017. It was his last concert with Babymetal. They actually have more footage of him in the video (unlike other Babymetal videos). It even fades to him during the verse of " We shall never meet again, but I want not to forget you forever. If the dream continues, I wish I'll never wake up from it. " His official tribute song is "Hill of Wisteria" by the Kami band. Also Takayoshi Ohmura (other guitarist from Babymetal) holds a concert for him every January (Mikio's Birthday)
