This song is full of emotion, a tribute to Mikio and released the same day Yui announced that she was leaving the band. Feels aside, one of my favorites! The riffs and the lyrics are great, and the live version is beautiful, it starts with a violin section, that's in the actual song but gets a little buried under the drums and vocals at the start

@@rallinurse Babymetal won't confirm officially that it was a tribute to Mikio, but there are just too many references to him for it not to be. The Trilogy of Lights: Starlight - about the grief of loss, Shine - accepting the loss, and Arkadia - moving forwad. It is also considered a reflection of the path Babymetal took. While it would be nice to consider it also a tribute to Yui, it was written prior to her official departure from the group. The first performance, though was shortly after her departure.

This video and Distortion were made while Yui was ill, and the belief was she would rejoin, but they didn't know if there were to be two girls or three, so they shot the vids with none. This video was released on the day Yui announced she was still not well and leaving the band. Mikio Fujioka (RIP Kogami) was an avid stargazer as a hobby; that makes more sense out of the song. This along with Shine and Arkadia are known as the Trilogy of Light among the fans, and follow Babymetal's emotional arc through the difficult year that was 2018

Love your reactions! always happy to see new reaction videos of you :D Starlight is the first song of the so called "Trilogy of Light" (other songs are Shine and Arkadia). Starlight is about the loss of someone (in this case most likely Mikio Fujioka (RIP, Ko-Gami) or Yuimetal, who, on the same day as the video was released, announced her departure from Babymetal), while Shine is about the sadness of losing someone and Arkadia is about accepting and moving on. Each of them are great songs and i would suggest to cover all three songs after another.

This video and "Distortion" were filmed while they could not be sure if YUIMETAL could come back to the band, that's why the girls did not show up. So the videos themselves are weak (though the songs are great) , however, when they play these songs at the shows these days, they play the videos on the super-huge LED screen which is the backdrop of their stage, it makes the songs EPIC.

You can tell how much Alan liked a song by how much his hair is a mess at the end of it. :) When the english versus start it makes me tear up a bit, since it seems the lyrics are so meant for Mikio and even possibly Yui. No matter where you are, we will always be with you.

For some reason, Starlight is getting surprisingly little recognition. What I notice about myself regarding Starlight: I tend to think it's a rather mellow, emotional song instead of a heavy banger. But then from time to time when I listen to it, I think "damn, it's actually really heavy". And this is true for quite a few BABYMETAL songs. One tends to focus so much on one or two particular facets of the music that it's easy to lose track of how much more is actually in there. Which is not a bad thing, because it's almost like rediscovering them occasionally.

This song is another one of their more underrated songs. It's not necessarily neglected or disliked by very many people...but in my opinion, a lot of fans don't like it as much as they should. Like...it's better than most of the other songs on Metal Galaxy but I know a lot of fans that think it's just middle of the pack. Maybe its just because its not as unique of a sound compared to some of the other songs. It definitely fits right in with the group of bands that are popular with a djenty style like Periphery or After the Burial etc. So I guess for people that don't listen to that stuff, they don't see the appeal but for me, this song is easily in the top 5 of the Metal Galaxy songs.

There is indeed a story to this. Starlight is the intro for the Trilogy of lights, then you have Shine and Arkadia to close it 🙂 Fans love to say those tracks are linked to Yui's departure or Mikio's tragic accident (he was known for being an avid stargazer, this also why he died) even though there are no official proofs for that.

Another great video guys! Starlight is a part of the "Trilogy of Lights". The other two are Shine (ballad) and Arkadia (power metal). Although BABYMETAL didn't have an official statement that this is a tribute to Mikio, we considered it as one as Mikio's hobby was stargazing especially the "Wherever you are we'll be with you. We'll never forget shining starlight. Wherever ypu are, live in my heart. We'll never forget shining star" part in the song that we believe was meant for him and we also considered as a tribute to Yui because its released the same day she left the band and at the same time, she also likes stargazing. The Trilogy of Lights is about how we face our problems. "Starlight" is about the pain that you feel and experience in times of heavy and difficult struggles, "Shine" is about facing and overcoming it, and "Arkadia" is about moving on as you've already dealt with your struggles and moving to a "place of light and dreams" and looking forward to the future. I would also recommend you to react to the other two now that you're done with starlight. More power to your channel! Catch you at the foxhole!

The chorus starts with "Fly higher in the sky" - "like a star gazer". The lyrics in the interlude are Wherever we are, we'll be with you , We'll never forget shining starlight, Wherever you are, live in my heart, We'll never forget shooting star. Mikio died from a fall off of an observation deck while stargazing. They should just make it official that it's a tribute ;) It's my favorite song on Metal Galaxy, if you'd take the "Trilogy of Light" as one song. Starlight, Shine, Arkadia. Which have the meaning of Loss, Acceptance, Moving on respectively. At least this is the most common interpretation I read and hear the most. They lead into each other, but were only performed once in order (in pro-shot performances at least), at the Legend Metal Galaxy concerts in January. There's a video on someones GDrive from Legend M in 2019 in which someone arranged the three songs in order, but I don't have the link anymore and it would be blocked on KZbin anyways.

Actually no. The song was release october 2018 and the guitar came out mid 2019

The 9-string ESP Babymetal edition was only released one year ago, Starlight was recorded 2 1/2 years ago. They play their "regular" 7-strings when it's performed live and it pretty much sounds exactly the same as the recording. I think BxMxC is the only song in which a 9-string is used, in a tuning from hell at that. Starlight only uses a lot of Distortion on the guitars and the bass. But I'm no musician, so my last point is pretty much what I've heard and read only.

It was easy to tell this song was more somber (dark as you said), yet to me you were disrespecting the music with your whimsy. In the future please match you reactions to the tone of the music when acknowledging the craftsmanship of the performance.
