I don’t miss a WHO Wednesday. It sucks the big boys take all the wind out of your sales every month. Your channel is awesome! It kills me though that you aren’t listening to the original Who’s Next version. This song is sacred and in my opinion only hits hard on the original cut. Rogers dog Nelly passed that morning and he admits his vocals were extra sad and bitter when he recorded them that afternoon.

Totally agree with you about what happens with intense collaboration by musicians that know each other really well but have their own personalities and creative ideas. I remember the first time that lesson really dawned on me, I was around 21, and I had always loved jamming and playing in bands, but when it came to more composition type stuff, I felt like I wanted to be the master of my own ship. But the bass player and me from my post punk band at the time got together and did a side project, and we both had sometimes very different ideas about what we should try that would be cutting edge or provocative, but still fun for people to listen to. In the end, he brought stuff out of me that I never would have thought of if I had just been the master of my own ship, and I did the same for him. That lesson hit me really hard, and I have really felt the value of collaboration so many times in so many ways in my musical life over the decades.

Roger was so good here, you're right. And I've listened to and loved and studied the Who's studio albums for over 50 years, but you're also right that the Who is meant to be experienced live. The have to be seen, especially back the first few times I saw them, in the Keith days.

Do you know of the famous concert in SF when Moonie passed out from taking too many of the wrong drugs and they took him off stage and asked if someone in the audience knew how to play drums and a guy volunteered? Legends.
@pongosnodgrass70149 ай бұрын
That was the infamous "is there a drummer in the house?" incident at Cow Palace 😂
This is from the Who's live performances at Kilburn (1977), followed by Shepperton Studios (1978) for "The Kid's Are Alright" Who Documentary Film. These were also the last 2 performances by Keith Moon, who died a month later. You should see the Shepperton Studios version of "Won't Get Fooled Again"! Townshend is totally wild, and Daltrey and Entwistle are in amazing form. Moon's drumming is only about "50%" due to poor health, but his drumming is still amazing compared to most bands. In 1978 Moon's performance was painful for me, but now I appreciate that Moon got this final "bash" with his band.

I Don't Even Know Myself and/or Water from Isle Of Wight 1970. Both great tracks and as a drummer you'll enjoy the footage of Keith in his prime.
@jraben10659 ай бұрын
Yes, most Who fans don't seem to know about "Don't Even Know Myself" and "Water" at Isle of Wight. The performance of "Young Man Blues" is more famous at Isle of Wight, but these two songs are equally good, particularly for Moon's drumming. Funny that all three of these songs are not the greatest Who songs as far as song-writing, but the Who just loved jamming to them in concert during 1969-70.

This was a one-off gig near the end of Keith`s time and considered a bit of disaster off the road for a while and under rehearsed. Listen to the original off Who`s Next and you will have a superb version with the band in their prime. None of the best Who shows were ever actually filmed because The Who banned cameras for a while with the best of intentions it has to be said. There was a circus that built up around their shows often with legions of cameramen and celebrities hogging the first ten rows which began to piss the band and their fans off. As a great live piece watch them play Sparks at Woodstock `69 or We`re Not Gonna Take It from the Isle of Wight `70.

IMO, the Sheppaerton Studios performances were ok but truly not The Who at their best. Keith is clearly not in very good shape (final live performance before his passing). Behind Blue Eyes is a great song (don't bother with the covers...especially Limp Bizket). The studio version from Who's Next is fantastic and probably my favorite Who song.

The Who…my fav…I was wondering if you would consider featuring newer, unknown bands sometimes…you wouldn’t have copyright issues and would be helping the lesser known bands gain more audience…sounds like a win/win to me…(but, I am not a vlogger; so, I don’t really know. Don’t stop with the others…especially my Who!!! My nephew is in a band called Promises Unsaid…Metal Core/mixed genres….my nephew is the drummer, btw, and one of his drumming hero’s is Keith…They are on all platforms…but, I like Utube because they have some cool videos. Even if my idea sticks, lol, if you like metal…do a quick search on tube and check them out…My favorite songs of theirs are: Unami; Mind Play and their most successful so far, Media Madness…let me know anyone if you give them a listen and like them too…I haven’t got one bad reaction yet…
