The “original remaster mix is “Bohemian Rhapsody” from A Night At The Opera. It features the same piano and vocal performance with the same lyrics. But there are different effects on Freddie’s voice in the first section. The opera middle is the same except the effects and volume on the different voices. In the third part, one measure is omitted from May’s initial guitar solo and the volume is raise on the piano. There is incomprehensible studio chatter at the song’s end.❤

As I recall seeing a couple years ago, they did this "Demo" video to show on the British music show Midnight Special in place of them having them lip synching, which was what they were expected/required to do. I think it was Brian who most adamantly refused to do that, so they came up with this video to show in their place. P.S. Great reaction!! Most natural physical response I've ever seen! Now go watch the 1981 Montreal live performance of "Somebody to Love" *AFTER* you listen to the studio version. Prepare to be blown away!

So cute, Lee’s rockin’ to it! It sounds better to me, too, than the original release. Everything’s up front and crisp. It’s much more dramatic, especially with Roger’s prominent drumbeat punctuating everything. Culminating with the “big sweaty dude hitting a gong”. 😀 I had no longer cared much to listen to the original release and now I know why. It’s sound is fuzzy. I love this demo! It sounds basically like an early mix, not a demo - Way too much compression, drums up, same gtr solos- but in the post-operatic section gtr section, the highest guitar part isn’t faded in fully til a few bars in. The (huge) compression brings up a lot of things - any instrumental or vocal decay swells - reverb on vocals, drums in general, piano in the last verse.

"Death on Two Legs" opening song on their 4th album, A Night at the Opera. Written by Freddie about the band's fall-out with their original manager, Norman Sheffield. Though the song makes no direct reference to him, Sheffield sued both the band and the record label for defamation. This resulted in an out-of-court settlement, thus revealing to the public his connection with the song. It's a banger of a song and Freddie had some balls to get it on the album!!

Well, we knew this was coming eventually. Composed of three pseudo-operatic Freddy Mercury songs, this six-minute opus used up to 200 overdubs, resulting in the tape nearly worn through. There were hundreds of hours of vocal recordings alone and Queen put four studios through their limits to accomplish this track. Is it great music? probably not in the classical sense, but it was fun. Hell, the Wayne's World video alone was justification enough. Anyway, I doubt the limitations of this space will be able to contain all the comments, You are opening a flood gate.

A couple of highly recommended songs I think you'd like, beyond the well-known hits: White Queen - Live at Hammersmith Odeon, 1975 - great Brian May-penned song with medieval, mystical vibes, includes a mind-bending, almost transcendental duet between Freddie on piano and Brian on guitar You Take My Beath Away - Live at Hyde Park, 1976 - just Freddie alone on piano in the green twilight, shushing a rowdy crowd at this free Queen concert with one thin finger and a stunningly executed, unembellished version of this tale of obsessive love. And, of course, if you haven't already seen/ heard it: Somebody to Love - Live in Montreal, 1981 - possibly one of the greatest, high energy vocal performances of any song, ever, Freddie's attempt to write a gospel influenced song in the Aretha Franklin style, it'll blow your socks off with superlative performances by every member of the band.

The first 3 songs on Queen II, white side is right up there with anything Queen has done. Queen II had a white and black side. the white side was Brian May's side. He wrote everything but one song, I think, and he sung on at least one, and his guitar work was masterful. The Dark side was Freddie unleashed. And, in those days, Freddie wore black nail polish on his hand, and Brian wore white nail polish. But I really love Procession/Father to Son/White Queen. They all run into each other and make a glorious long song.

The term you use -“I listen to the instrumental” is incorrect. You are listening to the music. An instrumental is a song without lyrics. Freddie’s religion was Zoroastrian. Thus the inclusion of “Bismillah” in the lyrics. The track “Prophet’s Song” from the same album is an even more elaborate, intricately produced song, and even more “radio friendly”. I believe you will really love it. It’s my personal favorite Queen song. Written by Brian. Everyone in the music business at the time was VERY surprised when “Bohemian Rhapsody” became a hit. Uncharted territory!

About 50% fact, 50% fiction, I'd say. As I understand it, It was meant to be a bio of Freddie specifically, and Rami did a really good imitation of many of his mannerisms/ body language. But, perhaps due to the script not really addressing them, his portrayal completely missed all the fascinating layers of Freddie's multi-layered, often contradictory personality including his genuinely sweet and caring side with friends, and his tendency to shyness around strangers when not prancing about on stage in front of thousands..
