Yep. I still have my invitation to the funeral. He passed on November 24th. I had gone to Nashville to see Alice Cooper that night. To be overshadowed by the death of Freddie to me is an overstatement however. To the schmucks that read Rolling Stone-YES! They did just that. To us that were part of the Kiss network it meant as much than losing Freddie. They both were responsible for reasons of their own. Freddie was well, Freddie and Eric saved Kiss. Eric Carr brought the heavier hard rock drumming style KISS was looking for . Peter was described as have a big band back ground and style . Which was cool . It help make KISS’s sound unique at the time. But heavy metal was main stream in the 80’s . Paul said in his book that they tried to get a John Bonham sound from Peter but couldn’t. Eric Carr was a beast and he was completely unknown when they found him.

Nice to see you moving through the catalog. This era was an odd one, while a fan and raised on their earlier stuff in the 70's I was able to enjoy this live in High School during this era. Eric Carr is, IMO, the best drummer they have ever had in KISS. Sure Peter Criss was the original and did some nice work, but nothing like the energy and power that Carr did. It was really unfortunate that he was taken from us early when he passed from heart cancer. His repleacement was a solid drummer, but again IMO, just didn't have the flare, the personality behind the drums and the raw energy that Eric brought to the stage. It really was something to see in person.

KISS has many different types of genres of rock and metal within their repertoire. Eric Carr is definitely my favorite of the KISS drummers. Not to take away from Peter Criss or Eric Singer. Singer is probably the most technical of the KISS drummers. Eric Carr had great technique. My only complaint, Eric's Pearl Free-floating snare sound. Eric used/ endorsed Ludwig. I LOVE IT! You have fun reactions and nice accent coming from a drummer’s angle. And this is a drumming jewel from their Hot In The Shade tour from my home stop in Detroit! Second rxn of a show I was at (flew to LA for 1998 Halloween show). Seen every Detroit show since 1979. I still have an autograph from Eric Carr (God rest his soul) from meeting him in a hotel roof bar (Ponchartrain) 1986. He was such a kind and funny guy (who loved kids but didn’t have any) and was such an amazingly underrated drummer, entertainer and musician, and great singer. He had some challenges with insecurity being the replacement drummer for Kiss and had a bit of a tough relationship with Gene and Paul at the end, who many say did Eric wrong (Eric’s family aren’t big fans of Gene and Paul) for which Paul and Gene are remorseful today. Paul discusses in his book Face The Music. This version of the band is what many argue was the best, esp from a music technicality perspective. The combo of Eric Carr and Bruce Kulick, a guitar technician of the highest order, helped earn KISS without make up years solid respect from previous “they’re just a stage show” skeptics, actually proving the make up was really just a side show that accentuated, but didn’t make the band. It’s so cool you’re delving into deep cuts with this band. For this era with Eric Carr - who sadly died same day as Freddie Mercury so didn’t garner much attention, here’s a list of one highlight banger per album The Elder: The Oath Creatures of the Night: Title song Lick It Up: Exciter Animalize: I’ve Had Enough Asylum: Love’s A Deadly Weapon (Bruce solo here is 🔥) Crazy Crazy Nights: ok..I admit, I don’t love this album but heavy pick: No, No, No radio cut: Reason To Live Hot In The Shade: Forever Out of respect since he was in his dying days, wore a wig due to chemo hair loss, the Revenge album era video to God Gave Rock n Roll to You - which I believe in studio is Eric Singer but Eric Carr begged to play on the video as a dying wish and he learned every detail of Singer’s drumming to a T. In premonition, Eric Singer played with Paul on a side 1989 solo tour in bars (was so cool), with Bruce Kulick’s (older, bald) brother Bob on lead guitar. Eric Carr met Eric Singer then and literally knew and told Singer, before knowing about his heart cancer, “you’re going to replace me”. It was in retrospect, a very eerie premonition. Thanks for reading if you made it this far and happy deep cut diving brother! Here’s Eric Carr’s Wikipedia: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eric_Carr

Killer solo but a weird song to put it in. This is Gene's song and it's usually a lot more sinister. The beat is a little slower than it was here. I understand they took off the make up for a little while and Gene wasn't gonna be spitting any blood - as they tried to get away from that stuff, but I believe the fans wanted it back and that's why they did it. I saw Kiss in 2019 and when they played this song, I got a little nervous. My childhood fears about this song were flooding back. 😁 But seriously, it's pretty cool to see it. The stage gets really dark with some green and red lighting and smoke everywhere, doors creaking, kids screaming. It's totally bad ass! They killed it here but it was definitely played a little diff. And that snare pattern he was playing during the song, that's a Peter Criss riff all the way. Listen to the studio version of it if you ever get a chance. It's killer! About 90% of my fav songs are sung by Gene. That deep, gravely voice just fits the music so well. Can't wait until you get to Cold Gin. That's another Gene banger!!!

I feel bad that the KISS Eric Carr joined in 1980 was not the KISS he loved and looked up to during the 1970s. However they did have a few great years during the mid 80s until cancer struck in 1990. His passing sparked one of the heavier albums in Kisstory, Revenge. Love him or hate him, he is possibly the best of the drummers KISS had however he featured in an area filled with pop rock and power pop. @setonhillstudios Unfortunately the full song from this concert isn't available on KZbin anymore.....however I found a video from a different city they played that tour that shows the ending, however it's a side view but it shows just how much KISS put into their stage shows. kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYGZamNtbNl8rdksi=JlLOaQCWXRKNMtR3

Actually you cut the song short. Drum solo was in the middle of the song. The 2nd half of God of thunder they were about to sing.

In my thoughts only in this signature song of Gene's it just doesn't feel darker than it sounds when he was singing during this tour than if they wore the make-up during the 80's. Granted I know that Gene had other project's going on such as movie offers to do but in the 80's were treading water and staying a float with low ticket sales and attendance at concerts so the ? is did Gene check out even though did it affect his music as in singing and less stage show performance my thoughts only I think he did because of how busy Gene was but also I could be way wrong as well. The music and sound may speak more but who knows.

Eric Carr was the heaviest and best drummer the band ever had, but this particular song actually loses a little something when Gene's not in makeup. Paul actually wrote this song for himself and was a sexual kind of song (no surprise). Bob Ezrin, the producer of this album, had it reworked and given to Gene to sing. Paul wasn’t happy about it but it very much worked out and he eventually came to kind of like that he wrote Gene's signature song.

Eric Carr is a great drummer but he never was the singer that Peter Criss was and when kiss was at their Peak Eric wasn't in the band Peter was just listen to Budokan 77 during the rock and roll over tour or the Cow Palace in San Francisco during LoveGun on the Can-Am tour Peter is a monster on the kit. Kiss was nothing in America in 1980 I mean you had to go to Australia for Germany where they were big. Peter's drumming Define kisses music.....his drumming fit that music so well. that Bebop Motown Soulful rock and roll drumming can't be touched and when I listen to Detroit Rock City I still think Peter's version of the song is better than Eric's. Honestly I think Eric Carr best stuff was on the concept record the Elder and creatures of the night. I mean if I want to listen to Live Kiss, I'm going to listen to it from the 70s every time with the exception of the dynasty tour and they're even is several good Dynasty tour shows with Peter playing when he's not real high on cocaine. And then of course the classic drumming on the Alive album I mean they didn't have to go in the studio and mess with any of his drumming it was pretty much one take I mean there may have been a little bit done to it but he was a monster on that album. Be honestly their first three albums if you want to listen to great songs from them you listen to kiss self-titled hotter than hell Dressed to Kill/ black diamond, 100,000 years ,cold gin, got to choose, Firehouse, hotter than hell, going blind, strangeways, parasite, getaway, love her all I can, rock bottom, let me go and rock and roll, acrobat/the kiss Love Theme and 💋 time

Paul Stanley wrote this song thinking it would be his song, with him singing the lead. But it became Gene's - way to give up Paul, better suited to a gene's vocals.

Your computer/video monitor is very small. Hard to see. Why don't you have that larger and review the video after? No disrespect to you but we'd rather see more of the video than you raising your arms in the air and smiling 😁. It is a great disservice to an incredible visual/musical solo by a fricken awesome musician who, sadly, is jamming with guitarists in heaven instead of here on Earth for us. Nice choice of material. Not too many other reactions hosts have checked out this clip. ❤

@@setonhillstudios Thank you for explaining that. I keep forgetting about band copyright laws and blocking materials. Damn shame they do that. They want us to remain their fans and than do that B.S. to us. Are they worried they might inspire the future of rock n roll. Very insulting.

Eric started using the pads on the Asylum tour in 1985. And this video is (arguably) not even the best representation of his playing or soloing.

Unfortunately the sound of the drum is poorly recorded and part of Eric Carr's Drum solo was removed here, shame on Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley. There is an Egyptian disco part in this drum solo
