After owning the DVD for months now... I thought it was about time we got to this performance(s). After the Gold Rush was in Boston and Like A Hurricane was in Boston, I believe... and what a rendition of hurricane. I mean good god. That was incredible. One of the best things i've ever heard...

These days, when Neil is singing "After The Gold Rush" he sings "Look at Mother Nature in the 21st Century". Still relevant as much as ever, and Neil Young is still The MAN.

neil has touched me so deeply. he's a big part of the reason i picked up a guitar in the sixties. so glad. music is so important and brings love and joy to life. proud to say i think i could play with crazy horse now or jam with neil. couldn't imagine many decades ago that i'd still be playing music in 2024. or that it could be this good. special music. glad that younger people are getting turned on to this.

We saw him during this tour along with Crazy Horse. When my husband and I were on our first date, I learned he was a huge CSN and Neil Young fan (check out Neil’s one man band). We were leaving the bar when the band started playing Like A Hurricane. Being from the Gulf Coast on the southern part of south-east Texas, I had been telling him (from NY state) about hurricanes. We lean on this machine in a small lobby, holding each other until the end of the song. It’s been our song ever since.

I never knew this song. It’s funny how it’s possible to be so moved just by Neil’s voice singing the first words opening the song… “I want to love you but I got so blown away” His solos express it SO passionately! That distortion was a scorching longing! Thank you for sharing this, Lee! What a beautiful song about loving someone. Maybe a happy ending comes with “Harvest Moon”… Harvest Moon is like the other side of that love ❤️ Along with Dear Prudence, it’s one of my very favorite songs. “I loved you with all my heart”. That’s Neil Young. Lee, Harvest Moon is where you fell in love with him! “Poignant and simple” (Feeling hurt helps you heal…)

Hey man, the more I watch you the more I feel like I'm a friend of yours. My brother died when I was 19 and in the Marine corps, I was stationed up in New Hampshire at a nuclear submarine base call Portsmouth naval shipyard up in New Hampshire/kittery Maine. He passed away before his 29th birthday, that was a 1981. This coming September I will be 62. I have a lot of albums, you never make any money selling your albums, so I decided I will send you them a little at a time. I have a lot of Joni Mitchell I have a ton of CNS and Young, I even have a bootleg Neil Young album from when he first started. I gave all 60 of my Zappa albums to a friend who needed it more than I did. I have donovan, John McLaughlin, not as much stuff as I did years ago I sold a lot of it to get drugs when I was young. I could kill myself for doing that. At some point I have to find out how to privately message you so I can send you my phone number and figure out how many albums I can send you at a time so it doesn't make me go bankrupt shipping the stuff. But I honestly want you to have it. I live in Milwaukee wisconsin, for some reason I don't think I live very close to you. Anywho man, you're the best reaction video to music of my time that I've ever seen I pray you get way more people watching and listening to you. Take care dude.

don't feel bad man. i sold my unopened led zeppelin II from the 70s that my mother gave me. sold my kit that my mom helped buy. sold all of my dad's guitars who died and left them to me except 2. i sold my soul. i sold everything but the skin i rent. i'm glad i woke up and realized I honestly didn't want to die, i just wanted a purpose and some one to actually love. i was given both of those at the same time at the exact right moment for me to actually do something good with it and now here i am. on my 17th second chance and it finally stuck. we all have our war that we fight for ourselves and i lost every battle for 10 years straight but somehow survived to fight another one. and now here i am, finally starting to win them. i just always choose the hard way for some reason! lol sorry for the novel. thank you for sharing my friend. you can email me at the email in the description of this video (If i put it in a comment it will get blocked for some reason) to set something up. you are too kind, david. im sorry to hear about your brother..

@@L33Reacts your novel was just fine, I could tell you stories about my party days, in a big way I do miss them. But it really didn't do anything for my life. I just was retired because of back surgeries and such neck surgery, too much skateboarding. I started skateboarding in 1968 and now I'm going to be 62 and keep skateboarding. My neurosurgeon isn't happy with me. I had to retire early because of car accident and hurting my back at work. Your novel was wonderful I completely understand. Somehow though I do want to get these albums to you. I'm not sure how much longer I'm going to be around I gained so much weight after the covid thing, and it's really hard to lose at my age. But somehow I will get you these albums.

From wiki on the After the Gold Rush song: "After The Gold Rush is an environmental song... I recognize in it now this thread that goes through a lotta my songs that’s this time-travel thing... When I look out the window, the first thing that comes to my mind is the way this place looked a hundred years ago." Neil had a big push for vehicles powered with gasoline made out of corn. It was very environmentally friendly.

Neil was/is a genius. I saw him solo in around 1983, and he was brilliant.... To this day, one of the best concerts I've ever seen. He played acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica, piano, synthesizer and banjo.... A few years ago, Paste magazine had Young in the top 2 or 3 of living songwriters with Dylan and McCartney.

Great choice! Saw Neil twice in Chicago in the 80s, both post Rust. What a an incredible totally unique performer. The "Rust Never Sleeps" version of "Hurricane" is for me the quintessential version. Everyone has their favorite I guess. "Hey Hey My My" acoustic from Live Rust is a must. This was a purely magical and unforgettable experience when I saw him live and the audience joined in on the lyrics.

Glad you did the Live Rust version of Hurricane. Much better than the studio cut. The two different venues are just the result of recording most of the tour because of the planned live album and companion film. Presumably they picked what they thought were the best recordings. If you're looking for a full Neill album to do After the Gold Rush is a great choice. His follow up to Everybody Knows this Is Nowhere so Danny Whitten was still alive and part of Crazy Horse, plus a very young Nils Lofgren and super producer/session guy Jack Nitzsche.

In the '60s Rachel Carson wrote a couple of books on environmental issues and kick-started a movement. That and Vietnam fired up a lot of social upheaval and protest. Joni Mitchell headlined a small benefit concert for some people that were going to head to Alaska to stop an atomic bomb test, and that was the beginning of Greenpeace. Neil & Joni were old friends and shared a number of concerns in common.

The comparison you're making with contemporary music is understandable, but don't forget what you are discovering now is some of the really good, some of the best, some of the absolute pinnacles of 40 or 50 years' worth of music. What nobody in their right mind is trying to point you towards is the absolutely gigantic heaving landfill mountain range of utterly pathetic garbage produced during the same period. Some of it laughable, some of it repulsive, but most of it so useless that we've all pretty much totally wiped it from our memories. Be glad you'll never have to hear it.
