No autotune, not full of digital enhancements ... just pure TALENT! No wonder the 70's & 80's were such good times, always a party with good Tunes likes these classics! The concerts were phenomenal, we ALL lived for the live shows! 😁✌🏼

Another great project by Ronnie Montrose was Gamma, who recorded 3 albums between 1979 & 1982. More AOR oriented, but some hard rocking stuff on those albums. Davey Pattison is a great vocalist. He was suggested to Ronnie by his friend James Dewar (vocalist. bassist of Robin Trower's band).

Space Station #5 and Bad Motor Scooter join other classics like Deep Purple's Highway Star as ultimate highway cruising songs.... and I love to crank these while on my bike so the whole world can hear. And Sammy went to a huge solo career before and after Van halen. Songs like Heavy Metal, I Can't Drive 55, There's Only One Way to Rock, Mas Tequila...

Awesome pick! Two great Montrose songs. “Space Station #5” is a favorite. “I Got the Fire” is another great song by Montrose. Ronnie was playing with Edgar Winter before going solo and Montrose had his rare 1959 'burst Les Paul stolen from a EWG show on 20 October 1972 in Dudley, Massachusetts. Montrose bought the guitar from J Geils in 1972 for $800. In the middle of the set, Montrose went to retrieve his prized guitar from its stand onstage, only to find it missing. The show was halted, house lights were turned on, but the guitar had vanished. Montrose was fuming. 37 years later, in the November 2007 issue of the British magazine Guitar Buyer the publication featured a multi-page spread on Gary Moore and his guitar collection, including several photos of a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard. The guitar is known as a Sunburst for its distinctive maple wood face with unique wood grain patterns. Montrose claims a photo showing a pin-sized hole in the back of the guitar is the proof, as he drills such holes in all of his guitars for identification purposes. Although Montrose acknowledges that Gary Moore himself did not steal the guitar, he alleges his attempts to speak with Moore about the matter have been rebuffed. He's seeking the return of the guitar and unspecified damages. Unfortunately, both passed away before the dispute could be resolved.

Hard to believe how overlooked this album is. EVERYONE had a copy in their collections. Sammy is a rock star treasure. I saw Ronnie in the late 2000s at a nearby rock club. He was bald by then(!) Still played like a demon though. And I saw Sammy twice while serving as front man for Van Halen. Great days!

I saw these guys play in '75. At about the greatest concert of my life ! I'd never heard of em. But they opened for Foghat when Slowride was out. Black Oak closed. They had a hit love ballad "Close Enough To Be Gentle". 2nd row center, festival seating. We got there early and ran when they opened the gate. My buddies mom worked at a frisbee factory and gave us a grocery bag full of em. We wrote stuff on em. They let us in with em. A monster show at the St Paul civic center.

This album is pretty good from start to finish so you can't go wrong on any of the tracks. I really like Warner Brother presents also it has a different singer and a different bass player but it's pretty solid for the most part. The second album paper money which has the same lineup is good but I wouldn't say it's as good as this album but it's worth a listen.

Sammy warmed up for Boston when I saw them in Indy, first album, like 78 or so. He was pretty fresh out of Montrose. I didn't know who he was, but was the best opener I had ever seen! Later I saw his VOA tour. There was no warm up. He played for almost 2 hours..came out for an encore and asked for requests!!! Did bad motor scooter, hell, he might have done rock candy...played another 45 minutes...no shit. Best show ever and I've seen a lot of shows and bands!

Ronnie played with Edgar Winter too. ‘79 - ‘80 Ronnie started a band called Gamma. They had some cool songs. Sammy is great guitar player in his own right. Now you know why.
@stevenewcomer883710 ай бұрын
Yes Gamma had some great songs. They came out when synthesizers came out big. Their music was heavily influenced with synthesizers. Gamma was formed by guitarist Ronnie Montrose and singer Davey Pattison in San Francisco in 1979. Gamma 4 is Gamma's fourth and final album and was originally released on Ronnie Montrose's own label, RoMoCo, in 2000. In 2005, it was re-released by Wounded Bird Records. It was the last full album in Montrose's lifetime to feature contributions from him. It did not feature the heavy synthesizer use of their earlier releases. The song “The Only One” is a favorite of mine. Davey Pattison went on to record a couple of cover albums with Michael Schenker called Schenker Pattison Summit - The Endless Jam (2004) and The Endless Jam Continues (2005). They covered some excellent songs and did a great job. Their cover of “A Whiter Shade of Pale” is my favorite. “A Whiter Shade Of Pale” - Schenker Pattison Summit kzbin.info/www/bejne/rGPGp2mFbJmWe5osi=NEghJsSbzf-6m8cb

'Ole Audiophile to L33Reacts: What's really behind the success of this album was the record producer. Ted Templeman took a break from producing one great Doobie Brothers album after another to piece together this project. He grabbed a guitarist from his work with Van Morrison, stuck him with a local phenom Sammy Hager & ended up with an album like this wonder. Most of this album is completely solid which isn't much of surprise seeing as that was common among Doobie Brother albums as well. Thanx!

Ted Templeman went on to produce Van Halen from the start. One can bet he had much to do with Sammy coming to Van Halen.

Ronnie Montrose and Michael Schenker were the FIRST guitar Gods! And still maybe the best. ALL of the guitarists that came after were influenced by them. Many credit Michael Schenker. You must hear Michael Schenker’s guitar performance on the song “Rock Bottom” from UFO’s live album Strangers In the Night. First came across Ronnie Montrose working with Van Morrison, so he was clearly pretty adaptable. I think Bill Church had been in Van's band too. Took a chance on this record and it became one of the few straightahead US hard rock albums I actually enjoy. The lyrics are mostly super dumb but I suspect that was a conscious decision.
