IMO, Senri is the strongest and most solid jazz fusion drummer on the planet. I've been following her for over a decade. She's how I discovered Band-Maid in 2014. Beside Akane, I love Senri not only as a drummer but as a wonderful, sweet, kind person that improves everything she touches! Thx, Wave!

Honorable mention to Yoyoka. As the greatest rock drummer born this century, she has the fundamentals to progress to jazz if that is where her heart goes.

@@jimmorrisonisamaidiac Yes. And Yoyoka is so much fun to watch. btw -- Have you seen Senri play traditional, straight-up jazz. She's got great fundamentals for that, too!
@FrankieBag0donuts Жыл бұрын
@@jimmorrisonisamaidiac Yoyoka is a phenomenal drummer for her age! She's a natural born drummer for sure. The difference between her and Senri is that Senri has been composing her own drum parts since she was around 13 years old, and got an album deal at 16. She's been composing her own drum parts ever since. It remains to be seen if Yoyoka will rise to that level as of yet. She certainly has the potential, and it's fun to watch both of these young drummers blossom into the best drummers on the planet, regardless of their gender.

@@FrankieBag0donuts I agree completely.. I think she will continue to expand her horizons for many years. That being said I know of no rock drummer who tops her that was born after the year 1999…

@@jimmorrisonisamaidiac Her heart is sounding in every beat and she always serves the music in every stroke. Yoyokas acoustic drums have so much more dynamics than electronic drums - even if its harder to master.

Aside from the Maids, seeing Senri in Japan would be the best. The bands she works with and the style of jazz they play are right up my alley. Looking forward to your versions..

"Let the sticks go though the cymbals like water". Yes sensei! I find it hilarious/terrifying how she goes from a crazy lick to a very humble and soft 'Hai' before explaining how to Shikashi-Nagara...

The girl is smooth. Every time I see people worship Buddy Rich on drum sites ... I want to send them this video. But, if I may be Biblical .... that would be casting pearls before swine. She isn't a drummer. She's a percussionist. And a goddess on top of it all. I had to chuckle the time she said that she had to have Zildjian make her special long sticks because her arms were too short.

I've been watching SenriKawaguchi since she was playing K-ON covers, and I especially like Unmei wa Endless! She has been giving drum videos since she was about 12 years old. I think Tamu Murata of Nemophila also posted drum videos around the same time. There is also a video of Senri Kawaguchi making a guest appearance in Tamu Murata's video.

Nice content, always enjoy watching Senri. Her definition of easy is is like an airline pilot sitting you down in the cockpit and saying. don't worry, it's easy to fly this 747. Looking forward to your 4 licks video.

It was a very fun reaction, thank you, Senri-chan's drum play always moves me. When she plays a solo during a session and enters "Zone", I can't wait to blow away her usual cute impression.

KZbin's mysterious selection algorithms coughed up Senri's Tokyo Jazz Festival performance from some years back one day, and the rest, as they say, is history. One comment I've read about her is that she NEVER loses track of where she is IN THE SONG, no matter how far afield her solo-virtuoso excersions go. Watching her must be somewhat akin to what it must have been like watching Paganini perform on the violin - a once-in-a-generation master of an instrument.

Great choice for a reaction. What an insight as to how a great musician like Senri thinks. I'm not a drummer so it's interesting to hear what a drummer thinks of Henri's comments. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks Senri's idea of "easy" is way beyond our concept of what she's doing. Even when she breaks It down slowly it's insane - when she takes it up to speed it's mind blowing! Wonderful reaction to an amazing musician.

Senri is the best jazz drummer in the world at this point in time. She is, and always has been, phenomenal. Kozo Suganuma's star pupil. BTW, she also has a degree in social sciences from Waseda University, which she earned while being an active touring musician.
@MaartenT Жыл бұрын
Not something to react to, but you can see how she got as good as she did. They just posted a session of a classgroup with her teacher and mentor (Kozo Suganuma), who unfortunately passed away in 2021. They have recently started to post some stuff on Kozo Suganuma's channel again and some of them have Senri in it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqCbdJ53erp3hLs You can see that she is basically as much of a teacher as Kozo Suganuma is in this clip (he is behind the speaker on the right side of the screen), but Senri apparently started getting classes from him when she was 8 years old. The groups were probably a little bit smaller back then, but still.

I guess you get restricted to Japanese jazz fusion when you tune your drums for the maximum speed of your own licks and then use them frequently regardless what the music needs or what the other musicians in the band play. She is an impressive solo percussionist but as a band drummer she is limited and will not make good music worth listening to (if you are not into midi jazz). Harsh? Yes, we need more honesty in comparing drummers otherwise drum machines will easily replace the human expressions like with autotune instead of singers
