There was a tiny single edit that is only 2:16 long and was released the year after the album. That single was titled "Tuesday Afternoon". I'm so glad you listened here to the whole 8:25 minute album version! It is painful for me to hear the hacked up little single edit since I am familiar with the whole album. This album REALLY seems to be intended to be listened to as a whole, or at least one vinyl side at a time.

Yeah, you have to listen to this pretty much uninterrupted from start to finish. The transitions are so smooth because The Moodies played flute and Mellotron, so you can't always tell where the pop music ended and the orchestral music began, and vice versa.

@@L33Reacts Looking forward to it! I still have my vinyl from back in the day. One of my favourite albums from the moment I first heard it, in my early teens. Yes, they were inventing prog rock. The sixties was when all those genres were being generated or solidified out of the cosmic stew of possibilities. An incredible time to be alive, everyone growing and learning together. Peace and Love.... My other favourite album from the era (other than the Beatles, of course) couldn't have been more different - I'm not sure if I quite realised it at the time, but it was a sardonic look at some of the less authentic or weirder aspects of the dropped out, turned on, tuned in hippie scene and attitudes on the West Coast of the USA in the mid-sixties/ flower power era, with an album cover that parodied Sergeant Pepper's.... Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention's 'We're Only In It For The Money'.. Highly recommended, and in my view, more accessible and fun than many other Zappa creations (tho' others' experience may differ...). Lots of catchy, funny, weird, sad, sometimes wistful, sometimes angry, always interesting little observational essays/ ditties making an irresistible whole, if you have a fairly open mind/ imagination - another one to listen to as a whole mind and ear journey/ trip.

Why this album isn't more acclaimed I have no idea. It's one of the best (and earliest) concept albums. (Although Frank Sinatra should probably be credited for that, as most of his Capitol albums are concept albums, even though he didn't write the songs.) This record got a lot of us interested in classical music for the first time. The orchestral interludes are brilliant by Peter Knight. And Justin Hayward, besides being one of the best melodic songwriters of the rock era, is a superb guitarist. The Moodies are special because they could do progressive music but it didn't go on for 15 minutes. They could get to the point with amazing musicianship and songs, and then move on to the next song. They seldom overstayed their welcome. Four superb songwriters -- that hasn't happened much in popular music.

Yes! The first album that is truly prog rock. Hayward was only 19 when he wrote Nights in White Satin. Amazing! Album really needs to be listened to from beginning to end to get the full import of how groundbreaking it was. Also there’s a great short video on KZbin on how the band and the album happened….

Besides Dark Side of the Moon, this album is the one that NEEDS to be listened to start to finish. Worth it. FYI: The album was recorded at a time when the Moody Blues were suffering financial difficulties and lack of critical and commercial success. Their parent label, Decca Records, planned to release a classical LP to showcase the stereo recording techniques of its new imprint, Deram, but instead brought in the group to create an original work combining pop with progressive orchestrations arranged and conducted by Peter Knight. They composed a suite of songs about the life of everyday man, with the group and orchestra mostly playing separately and mixed together. It was a moderate success upon release, but following steady radio airplay, particularly of the hit single "Nights in White Satin", it became a top ten US hit in 1972. It has since been listed among the most important albums of 1967 by Rolling Stone.

The Moodys are an experience all within themselves. You say you envy us old timers experiencing this real time but envy you. I wish I could experience all of this for the first time again. All Moody Blues albums were concept albums designed to be listened to in their entirety. But live was slower then. We were a much more relaxed and took the time to experience. It has to be harder to reach that state of relaxation. I do admit pot and headphones helped.

Life was not slower. We just didn't spend all night watching TV. (Three channels of westerns or detectives!) We listened to albums with friends and consumables and blacklights instead.

The full title is "Forever Afternoon (Tuesday)". The Beatles referenced it in the song "Lady Madonna" with the lyrics, "Tuesday afternoon is neverending".

This was the first album to meld classical music with pop! It was five years ahead of it's time as it was not released in the USA until 1972😮😊, when the album hit #1 and the single version of Nights In White Satin hit #2 on the singles chart for three weeks straight. A must for an album reaction😮😊!

The Moody Blues are like a more lush and orchestral Beatles. A cross between the Beatles and Pink Floyd. My personal favorite group. Mike Pinder and his mellotron along with Mike's celestial writing style, put that added sparkle on their 7 core albums. Starting with this one, and ending with Seventh Sojourn, (no coincidence in the name). Although Mike did play on their 8th album, Octave, which was his last- he only had one song on it. Mike is so modest and down-to-Earth. It seems like he is dismissive of the impact he and the group had on the world. I suppose it's easier to see someone who's so accomplished at a loftier height than they feel themselves. Mike Pinder, Justin Hayward and John Lodge are the three remaining out of five. And there's Denny McLain, who just passed, but that's another story

My neighbors had this album. They also had Steppenwolf including the one with "Monster". We listened to them all of the time, Being a drummer it made me want a gong for years (Monster, you've already reacted to it). Later I discovered Yes, Rush, Mahavishnu, Crimson, etc and it changed my life. Nice video and God bless you and your family, thanks Lee!

Justin Hayward took a walk one day with his dog "Tuesday". He said in several interviews that he then smoked a "funny African cigarette" and the idea of this song came to him. He claims the dog's name was not the influence for the title.

Yes, you must listen to the whole album. Although the album came out shortly after Sgt. Pepper, it is arguably the first true concept album. The story of how the album came to be made is a true gem. Look it up, you might not believe it.

The original master for "(Evening) Time To Get Away" was lost for awhile and some remixes are missing an additional vocal track - as in this version. It's since been restored and is worth looking up. BTW, John Lodge tended to be the singer on the high notes. Ray Thomas passed away in 2018. ANYTHING by the Moody Blues is worth a listen! There are seven "core" albums in the late 60's to early 70's that are considered to be their strongest, starting with "Days of Future Passed" which came out the same year as "Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band".

One of the top bands of the ‘60’s and early 1970’s The album was a groundbreaking album called Days of Future Past which is a concept album about a single day and the emotions a person goes through in a single day.They have so many great songs and albums.I will list some that I believe you will love;The Story In Your Eyes,Question,Ride My See-Saw,Isn’t Life Strange,Never Cones The Day, and one you can relate to once you look this man’s history up, Legend of a Mind(Timothy Leary’s Dead)! Welcome to the beginning of progressive rock. Days of Future Passed was one of the first concept albums and blended rock and classical music. Must listen from start to end. A very tight and cohesive singular vision. The key is the album cover.

Absolutely listen to the whole album! This album triggered one greatest career restarts for a sixtes band ever! They went through the loss of their first lead singer, Denny Laine (who had sung "Go Now"; their biggest hit at the time), so they moved to the US and recruited Justin Hayward. Their sound radically changed, becoming more progressive, and they went on to become masters of their profession!!!

Sadly both Graeme Edge recently (2021) and Ray Thomas some time ago passed away. And very recently Denny Laine (vocals and guitars on first Moody Blues album, later with Wings). Mike Pinder (keys) left the Moody Blues around 1978. From 1978 to 1991 Patrick Moraz (with Yes on the album Relayer) played keys in the Moody Blues.

@@johndavids4780 No, it was The Moody Blues. Abby Road recorded in 1968 was The Beatle's first album in full stereo. Days of Future Passed was recorded in 1967. I'm no making this up. It's easy to research.

Decca records wanted to showcase their stereo recording system, which had, up until then, been a niche market for classical and jazz music, and aimed for those who could afford a home stereo system. Most homes had mono record players and the radio was only broadcast in mono, so mono mixes where the norm for most pop music. Decca hoped that an album with both classical and pop music on it would be used by salesmen as a demo record to show off the wide soundscape, and entice some younger customers to invest in a home stereo system.. The Moodies agreed to record the company's choice of some rock 'n' roll covers , and then daringly they completely ignored that in the studio, and instead recorded their own original music for 'Days of future passed'. Seguing orchestral sections between the songs, and taking the listener through the times of the day, creating one of the early pop concept albums.

bassist is considered 1 of the top ten most influential bass players in music. well over 200 songs between the group and solo works. this and the 6 that followed it are all concept albums which should be listened to end to end. these 5 guys have played up to 33 instruments on an album on this album the orchestra never played while they were playing except for a few lines at the end. what you hear is the mellotron

They had an Orchestra during this album. John Lodge had the falsetto voice. Unfortunately, 3 of the Moody’s are gone…Mike Pinder just passed away. Ray Thomas ( flute player ) & Graeme Edge ( Drummer ) Justin Hayward is still singing & I believe John Lodge is also. I fall to sleep every night listening to their album…Days Of Future Passed! Days of Future Passed considered by many as a very early example of progressive rock, one of the earliest examples of symphonic rock (mixing rock & orchestra) AND of a concept album!! 5 insanely talented musicians, 4 of which could sing - so their harmonies were spectacular (the falsetto you hear on Evening, Time To Get Away is by bassist John Lodge, who also sings on Lunch Break: Peak Hour on this album). Mike Pinder has a deeper voice (and does the majority of poems written by drummer Graeme Edge - two on this album), Ray Thomas has a very whimsical voice (which you'll hear in Twilight Time and Another Morning on this album). Justin Hayward sings the majority of songs in the Moodies catalogue. On Days, he does Tuesday Afternoon, Dawn Is a Feeling & Nights In White Satin. Amazing group to check out!! Cheers!

The importance of this album shouldn't be understated. The blending of Beatles-ish pop and orchestral music had never really been taken to this kind of extreme before (even by the Beatles), and you can bet every future prog musician had this album in their collection. The Moodies and their producer Tony Clarke pushed hard to create as lush a soundscape as possible, only afterwards discovering that even with a Mellotron it was nearly impossible to recreate this music on stage. That's one area where the Moodies never quite delivered back in the day. They had created a 'brand' around this lush, orchestral pop sound which the technology of the day couldn't possibly replicate in a live setting. But it's also why the Moodie's got a huge boost when they started collaborating with orchestras in the 90's and 00's.

The whole record and the next 6, were arguably the best, and best played from start to finish! Peace & Love, more Moody's please, whole albums are better in this instance!

I don't recall using the word "genre" back then. "Concept album" was the term. It probably began with the Beatles "Revolver". A Concept Album is made to listen start to finish.

Their albums need to be listened to by the side and then turn it over and do the other side, same with ELO...the whole album is a story of morning to night and the music that came out because of that. They released singles from that but it is best enjoyed as one event. Tuesday Afternoon was a hit as a larger hit was Nights in White Satin. So enjoy...they loved having an orchestra backup as does ELO.

Justin Hayward wrote and sang the first song (Tuesday Afternoon), while John Lodge wrote and sang the later song (Evening, Time to Get Away). As for the other members; Ray Thomas passed away in 2018, shortly before the band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Drummer Graeme Edge passed in November 2021, and keyboardist Mike Pinder just passed away in April of this year. This leaves only Hayward and Lodge, of the "Core-7" era Moodies remaining. Original founding members Denny Laine (guitar/vocals) and Clint Warwick (bass/vocals) died in December 2023 and May 2004 respectfully. Pinder left the band in 1978, after recording the 'Octave' album. Hayward, Lodge, Thomas, and Edge continued on with Pinder's replacement, Patrick Moraz. Moraz was fired from the band on 1991. The other four went on - along with addition "side" musicians - until Thomas retired in 2003. The Moodies then essentually became a trio (again with "side" musicians to fill other spots such as keyboards, flute, etc.) until they stopped touring in 2018. Hayward & Lodge each continue to tour as individual solo acts to this day.

What a magnificent piece of music!! I sometimes wish I'd have continued growing up in England. As it was, we transplanted to Toronto in April '64, Brit Invader.😂 Canadian radio filtered the dual influx of British and American artists in its own particular fashion, according to its own tastes and influences, internal or external. Lacking elder siblings, I relied on friends who did to update me on cool bands like Cream, then Blind Faith, other friends with more pocket money for hot new albums. 🫰🏼😊🎶❤️✨️🕊 😊🤙🏼🎶❤️✨️🕊
