Hi Wave. I love your commentary on this. Like you, I'm a Yoyoka super-fan. I was one of 70 lucky people who got to see her play this live last month! She also performed YYZ and swapped instruments with Shido for one song. As you would expect, she did a great job on bass.

It is exhausting for my mind to even try to process. The look on your face is like a mirror image of what my thoughts are doing as I watch. I am simply blown away. Yoyoka is too good for this planet. Ive simply run out of words . . . . . . One thing's for certain: Tal and her management need to book studio time, and do at least an EP with Yoyoka. I promise you there will be guitarists lining up around the block to take part. Two of the most talented musicians I have ever witnessed. Take my money! Please!

Great reaction, Wave. Yes, this is a mind-blowing performance. About Yoyoka being one of the best drummers in the world, that is official, or at least as close as it gets. I say that because when Yoyoka was 11 she was added to Drummerworld's list of the greatest drummers who ever lived and the 15 greatest female drummers, and since then she has gotten better. And about that amazing music, if you are not into Jeff Beck, you really should check him out.

We all know how brilliant she in on a big kit. But man she makes a small basic kit sound so full. One rack tom, one floor tom & only 3 cymbals.(kick , snare & hi hats are a given of course). But man it is relentless.

Honestly Wave, this time Yoyoka didn't do a carbon copy cover like many of her o other videos, which in my book is more impressive. I'll explain. The original drummer on this track is the phenomenal Narada Michael Walden probably the only drummer in the 70s that was toe to toe with Billy Cobham. He actually replaced Billy Cobham in the ground breaking and mind melting Mahavishnu Orchestra. In my opinion (and to my ears) Yoyoka has injected some of her own playing in this piece. I don't in anyway mean that she dumbed it down. She simply did rolls and played some things the way she felt them. Narada Michael Walden was at this time using a huge double bass kit with about 7 or 8 rack toms. This is also a great example of what made Jeff Beck great. Beck was not a jazz guitar player. He was a rock guitar player who wanted to explore and was heavily influenced by John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. Jeff Beck out grew the rock music of the 1960s and the 1970s.

I think she's progressed to the point that she probably listens to a song a couple of times to let her DNA absorb the song and then just sit down and play it flawlessly (and maybe adding her own hits when she feels like it). Great reaction, Wave. 👏 I watched Yoyoka's video about 5 times in a row on the first day. I'm articulate, but I was *flabbergasted,* even using words the BBC won't _consider_ broadcasting before 9pm. Beck was supportive of young musicians. So I wish Yoyoka'd played this a year ago. Regarding best drummer. When you have reached a certain level then it is doubtful if one drummer is better than the other one, just different. As you said, there are virtuoso drummers that are totally amazing that have played lots of years that are doing things that Yoyoka cannot do. Yes, but can they do what Yoyoka can do? Maybe. Do they have her natural groove? Maybe. Or maybe not. And how about when they were 13? It is not a matter of being better when you are at the top, it is a matter of what you can do. And Yoyoka will be able to do much more and also lose some. When you get older your muscle memory will be more trained, but you will lose the speed, enthusiasm and flexibility of someone that is younger. You will also lose the drive and motivation to learn new things.
