🥁Drummer Yoyoka’s Profile🥁
Born in October 2009. She started playing drums at the age of two,appearanced on live at the age of four, and formed the family band "Kaneaiyoyoka" at the age of five. Released 1st CD at 6 years old while in kindergarten.
Not only drums but also songwriting, vocals and piano.
In 2018, she became the weekly champion at the youngest age of 8 in the section under the age of 18 in the global female drummer contest "Hit Like A Girl". An application video that covered Led Zeppelin's "Good Times Bad Times" was featured in NBC, NPR, Rolling Stone magazine and Billboard in the US, and spread all over the world.
Robert Plant from Led Zeppelin, Chad Smith from Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sheryl Crow, Gene Simmons and Eric Singer from KISS, Kim Gordon from Sonic Youth, Hayley Williams from Paramore, Sass Jordan, Tony Royster Jr., Rage Against the Machine's drummer Brad Wilk, Jamiroquai's drummer Derrick McKenzie and others have praised her.
At the age of eight, she appearanced in Japan's famous rock festival "RISING SUN ROCK FESTIVAL in EZO"as the youngest ever and made a surprise appearance on the stage of Fall Out Boy in "Summer Sonic Tokyo". Their collaboration heaped up 20,000 audience.
Received an offer from Cyndi Lauper, played two songs as a guest drummer at the performance at Tokyo Orchard Hall on the last day of Cyndi Lauper’s Japan tour.
Also, she has been selected as a commercial for world-class brands such as Nike, Moncler, and UNIQLO. Filming was also done in Thailand and New York, and received a great response from all over the world.
She made two appearances in The Ellen DeGeneres Show in LA in January and May 2019 and was praised by Dave Grohl from Foo Fighters. Also, the first overseas live at the long-established live house "Whisky A Go Go" in Los Angeles was a great success.
In April 2019, she was selected as Newsweek Japan's "100 Japanese people respected by the world", the youngest in history.
At the age of eight, she made endorsement contract with drum makers Pearl and VIC FIRTH,as the world's youngest,and also made endorsement contracts with Zildjian, CYMPAD and DW.
At the Pearl booth of the world's largest musical instrument show "NAMM Show" held in Anaheim in 2020, she performed as the youngest female, only Japanese drummer.
The impact of "Yoyoka" continues to spread to the world.
Her favorite drummers are John Henry Bonham, Chris Coleman, Nate Smith, Chad Smith and David Grohl.
Her dream is to travel around the world and have sessions with people all over the world. Her recently dream is to play at the Tokyo Olympics.

I really love how she does those stick dances in between pauses just so she can keep the time and groove. More so, she performed YYZ using just a friggin five-piece drumset. Plus her dedication to Neil Peart in the video description is so touching. Her talent is as big as her heart. 🥁 = ♥️

Hey Mr. B this is a comment on your observation that Youoka is a wonderful person. Yesterday on her family's channel they posted a video of a drop in neighborhood center and did a whole Q and A with the director. Like an afterschool program . serves meals to both school kids and the elderly. They did a whole vid about juvenile breast cancer (Yoyoka's aunt is a survivor of this form of cancer) and in another they visited the birthing clinic and we all learned about midwifery. That is where Yoyoka and her brother were born. They are teaching her that with a public platform one must give back to the community. Her whole family are pretty wonderful!

Like me, she plays that main riff so tight, you can't help but bob your head! She nails ALL of Peart's breaks perfectly and if you not the 3rd, she doesn't have a set of roto-toms and 5 across the top to do that run... she does it on 2 mounted and a floor! Amazing skill! Then there's that tinly little foot... how does a skinny little 65lb 10-year-old kick a bass drum like that? I'm a 40+year player with an off and on pro carrier behind me and I'll predict that she will not only be a GREAT drummer but be a force of nature within 10-years!

Next level! She played in front of a massive crowd last year at Summer Sonic with Fall Out Boy when she was still 9. They said they practiced the song once in their dressing room with no instruments before she came out and played. The best video of this on YT was blocked by WOWWOW but there are a couple lower quality ones that are sill worth a look.

Yeah, this is really amazing! Yoyoka is not just good for a child musician, she's a really good drummer! I wish Neil Peart could have seen this, I think he would have been really proud. I love what you said about "the drummer face", I noticed that too. She still has that goofy grin, that I hope she never loses, but she definitely has that look of serious concentration. YYZ has been the benchmark for drumming skill for decades, and to think she has hit that level at her age? I'm excited to watch the rest of her career!

Fans are often posting requests for her to play some piece or other but apart from her family band commitments she just chooses songs that she finds interesting. Not only do they consistently sound fabulous but you can see that they are often challenging in some novel way, which means she is exploring and pushing herself. YYZ is a prime example, the online tutorial breaks it into four parts, but the ease with which she tackles it is staggering, whether or not she even looked at a tutorial. YYZ is really about the technical challenge, but I the covers she picks seem to demonstrate her exploration of the different ways that a drum kit can be used within the structure of a song. It's that journey that personally I find so fascinating and for so many fans who know the music they call it a.journey of rediscovery.

She is 11 in October I believe. She has been playing in her family band, Kaneaiyoyoka since the age of 5! People should check out their songs on Apple Music, all in Japanese and I love every word lol. Thank you for this reaction and I’m glad you appreciate her talent as most of us do. She is doing a collaboration of Ozzie’s, Over the Mountain on Sunday 23 August.

I love sports as much as I love music. I am in awe of her hand quickness. She would be a great defender in basketball. She could "pick the pocket" of even the best ball handler with those "quick as a cobra strike" hands and her excellent foot movement. She would probably lead the league in steals. She would also make a great hitter in baseball. Great hand-eye coordination and "buggy whip" like quickness in her wrists. But since I won't ever see her on the basketball court or baseball diamond, I am very content to watch her fantastic KZbin posts.

What you said about kids being forced to play music is absolutely true. I live in Japan; I've met, and taught (English); probably thousands of kids over the last 22 years and most (maybe even all) of them have HAD to learn to play some sort of musical instrument. Listening to most of them play is torture...it's more than obvious that Yoyoka does it because she LOVES it! She has a natural enthusiasm that is impossible to deny, and contagious. I've been having some really bad luck this last year or so, but when things get me down, Yoyoka gives me a reason to keep going.

Some rock fans have been famous for zeppeline's goodtimes badtimes cover for two years. However, it was half a year ago that I learned about Yoyoka. I should have noticed earlier. It's a pity that many world rock fans aren't yet aware of her talent. Rock is a minor in Japan, so few people know her. Since yoyoka is an elementary school student, she still has some restrictions for a few years, so she cannot practice much. So take her playing and spread it to many.

Great comments. The truth is, she is more than just an amazing drum talent. Many studios in Japan would love to sign her, but she (and parents) have already formed her own label And written her own material. And releasted the CDs. She is sponsored by Pearl and Yamaha. The only drawback is that - she's still just 11 years old. She has 11-year old musical taste (though excellent taste, it must be said) The CD is selling OK but if youre looking for more YYZ . . . mmmmmm Still, I encourage you all to go to the KaneaiYoyoka channel or her website yoyoka.jp/. The girl is definitely going places.

I don’t know if what you said is true because I’m certainly no expert. But I just love the entertainment she provides on her channel and the diversity of her choice of covers. She also has been playing in her family band from the age of 5. I have seen no evidence of Yoyoka claiming to be anything other than what she is. I’m sure she will grow into being a great drummer as some of us believe she already is. Respect for your opinion my friend.
