The original was recorded at Headley Grange. There was an entrance with a spiral staircase where they set up Bonzo's drums. They put mics up the stairwell. They also used a Binson Echorec.

I read somewhere that Yoyoka said that Bonham's style felt the most natural to her. She certainly demonstrates that here, nailing this track while making it all look so effortless. Can't wait to see what the future holds for her.

Thanks Rob Yule for requesting this and Wave! Difficult timing is what YOYOKA does! And of course, it's no surprise that "The YOYOKA Effect" is better than the original. Wave, you know that having a fresh pair of sticks is not a guarantee that you can make it through an 8 min song without breaking another pair, if you're YOYOKA, "The Hokkaido Hammer"! Rie is so proud of her when she destroys things, I can just picture her off to the side laughing out loud. You just re-record, if you're "One Shot" YOYOKA. She ain't just any old You Tuber that cuts and splices, as you know!

My hypothesis is that because she started out SO young, to get any appreciable sound, she had to whack the drums as hard as she could. That became a habit, and so she's still drumming that way. Which is pretty awesome. It also helps that she's pretty fearless in the pocket. She doesn't worry about screwing up, it seems. She 's having fun, so she's more relaxed and in the zone.
@Rob-Yule

@@thelionsshare6668 Also, she tries to ensure every hit (besides ghost notes) is a rim shot to produce the best sound. Those chips start pretty quickly. I like your hypothesis; control of that power came quickly but no reduction in that power.

@@thelionsshare6668 OR, she was just an angry baby and her anger has subsided....LOL (just kidding). I think she is also so relaxed, especially from a public speaking aspect, because she's had a camera stuck in her face since she was a baby, so it's natural. She kind of expects her every action to be recorded. Which in a way might make a lot of people nervous, but she's the opposite. She learns songs so quickly that comfort is achieved very rapidly.

@@Glen.Black. It might also be temperament, or something similar. Most Americans are afraid of public speaking, even more than death, which led to Seinfeld joking that meant at a funeral, most people would feel more comfortable in the casket than giving the eulogy. In the rare times I've had a chance to speak in public, I'm the exact opposite. The bigger the crowd, the better I feel. Totally comfortable with that, and in the zone.

1) Thank you Robert Yule! 😊 I was hoping someone would request this reaction from Wave! Excellent use of your request budget! 2) How?! How did Mr. Akifumi capture the sound of the Original?? Thank you for an exceptional recording! Without the expertise of Mr. Soma we may have never heard his amazing daughter. 3) Arigato to YOYOKA aka the Sacred Drum Monster aka Destroyer of cymbals and sticks aka the Hokkaido Hammer 🔨 😄! To my untrained ears this was pure perfection. She is gearing up to play the halftime show at the Superbowl and/or jamming with JP, JPJ & RP! Those 2 gigs are some of her short term goals!! 😳 She continues to deliver. & 4) Wave once more you validate our experience and broaden our understanding of the greatness of the artistry of JHB and this rendition of the LZ reworking of a Memphis Minnie song. Thank you Wave!

Did Aki "capture" the sound?, or improve, the sound? We all know the answer to that. Aki and YOYOKA are a perfect "sound" team, with his engineering skills and her "ear" and "feel" for what it takes to create the best sound.

I saw in the member section of Yoyoka, a video where she is invited in a secondary school to do an improvisation and to play "Sparkling", as usual she excelled but while demolishing the drums in the process.

😊 Wave Potter I wager you a million dollars worth of worm dirt that there is no click track. I think she has the intuitive knowledge of the songs changes in tempo. I don't think it comes from any analytical place at all. I am prepared to be wrong about that. But. As an Aries ♈️ I would be shocked 😲 to learn she uses a click track ~ we nearly always believe we are 💯 % right. Can't wait to learn the answer to click track or no click track 🤔.

Thanks Wave! It was a long-awaited treat to hear what Aki and Yoyo would do with the Mother of all Iconic drum tracks! Once again, the production is hands right off - just leaving Yoyoka's own musical articulation (after having nerded out on perfectly tuning every drum) just speak for itself. I find it so inspiring as a home recording enthusiast! To my (still in training) ears, they haven't used even any reverb here - maybe just mixing in a little more than usual of the overhead mics to get more of the room's sound. Is that what your ears say Wave, or do I need to listen harder? Oh, and thanks as well to @byronbutterfield1298, @robyule3760 and John(?) for this.

There is very little more nutritious to the soul than listening and watching Yoyoka "Killin' It". I think she 'dances' to keep time. If wealth worked for our benefit, Billionaires would hire the established musicians to play music with extremely talented kids. Maybe a short Led Zep tour over her summer break? I imagine Ian Paice would be fine with her replacing him for some songs with Deep Purple. Obviously Bezos could afford Rush. Maybe Roger Daltrey, Pete Townshend, with Billy Sheehan standing in for John Entwistle? RHCP and RATM? Maybe underwrite her playing at the casino with Silk Sonic? We can dream. Best Wishes. ☮

Machine learning is actually getting to the point that stripping the drums out of a song is actually rather feasible now. The other day I stripped Daryl Hall's CR-78 out of "I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)" and replaced it with a new loop. Didn't actually have the effect I was hoping for though.
