During an all-night cable television marathon (2am) this Twin Cities band's drummer leaves the stage unexpectedly during an impassioned fill. Funnier still, most of the band fails to realize he's fallen.

chaseme81871 NO WAY! The drummers are the ones who make all the damn ruckus! 30 minutes of tuning and they take FOREVER to sound check. A guitarist needs to balance levels, check effects, shit like that. Fine tuning stuff, ya know? But of course, the singer flips out after a minute of arcade noises, and next thing ya know, someone else is shit talking guitarists the internet...

I was recording a song with my band back in 1998. While inside a lousy 1-window recording booth, I stopped playing because I had made a mistake. I was soon vehemently livid to witness that my band kept going with the recording because they also had my looping drumbeat for a click track in THEIR headphones - and NOT my playing. So when I stopped... man, I was in a rage. This "band" kept on going, too, and reminded me of this memory. Had to share. Thank you.

Not tight enough
@nickmills54322 жыл бұрын
What's supposed to happen if you fuck up live, everyone stops playing cause you fucked up? They could've punched you in and with the right mixing engineer no one would've heard the difference. Hendrix definitely didn't get the first take, he was notorious for retaking guitar parts, that's what punches are for. Edit: windows are lousy for recording, did you want the whole studio to be glass? Most studios only have one window to the control room
@cisumsevolbor2 жыл бұрын
@Nick Mills Well, to use an analogy, drummers don’t write the book, they don’t turn the pages, much like how drummers don’t make the wheel, don’t make the spokes, don’t even turn the wheel, I’d say. But they do keep the pages in place, they do keep the wheel true and together. When the drummer stops, albeit accidentally, what keeps the band together, what keeps the insurance of unity? Continuing to play when the drummer stops undermines and negates the need for a drummer in the first place. I should have been my band’s crutch. *My* crutch (my drum machine playing in my headphones) should *not* have been my band’s crutch because it was not their responsibility. It was mine. Plus, the point of recording isn’t necessarily congruent with the point of performing live because the objective in the studio is to record a quality recording, whereas on stage the objective is to entertain. I wasn’t inviting an argument with my original post, so please forgive me if I said something that made you feel like you disapprove. Not my intentions. Plus, I was referring to a time years before the common use of computers in cheap, local “studios.” Think residential house, basement conversion. My band was recording on 1/2”, 15” ips tape and punch-ins were done in real time, mechanically. Everyone else could punch-in on a separate track if there was tape space available. But not drummers. Generally, drummers typically used about half of all tracks available, so punching-in was not a good, clean way to fix an accident or a mistake because the tracks needed for a good, clean punch-in were not available on this age-old equipment. Yeah. I’m old, too. And I bet you are not a drummer. Have a great day, Nick.
@agoo7581 Жыл бұрын
@@nickmills5432 there's a dfference between recording and playing live, dipshit. You think all of the records you here are full of songs done in one take? Also, no engineers don't "punch in" to make up for mistakes. In fact, in good ones are adamant about never doing that.

Folks, you got this wrong. This is not a band, this is a performing arts troupe showing in their unique way a critical view on the way contemporary bands work. The singer is in his own little world, imagining himself to be some kind of star even though nobody really listens. This is represented in this case by him not really singing anything but acting as if he would. The lead guitarist is a showoff with no care in the world but himself and how he gets across. This is exemplified by him playing something that has nothing to do with whatever the rest of the band is playing and not even missing a beat or caring at all when suddenly the drums cease to exist. The bass player is the "mother" of the band, making sure everyone else is ok and can do their bit. This is shown in the play by him being the one who actually helps the hapless drummer back onto his feet. Though his love is rough, as can be seen by how he pulls it off. It takes a true genius performing artist to bring out this ambivalence of caring and "get your act together, shithead" in a single shove. And the drummer is just a drunk ass.
