I saw them at The Spectum in Philadelphia during the summer of 1980. They were nuch more energetic than they showed in this video. They played for 3 hrs without a break.

These guys were FANTASTIC live! Saw them during their reunion tour in ‘99. So much energy and talent. Prior to that I saw J Geils and Magic Dick perform together and they did not disappoint either. You should check them out performing Rage In The Cage, Flamethrower, and Whammer Jammer.

The J. Geils Band was from Boston, MA. They had been around since the late sixties, but enjoyed their most popularity in the late seventies and early eighties. Peter Wolf, the lead vocalist was married to actress Faye Dunaway for a few years. The group disbanded not long after Wolf left to go solo. J. Geils is the lead guitarist. He passed away not that long ago. RIP...

They played all through the 1970's but there were not many videos being made before MTV unfortunately. There is a live performance of their best song: "I do". The guy who plays harmonica, Magic Dick, is know as one of the greatest rock harmonica players ever but he also plays sax in the band. On some of their tours they had help from the best horn section in music history, The Uptown horns, and I think they are featured in that live video. Of their last album they did a video to, Freeze frame".

A lot of "Live" performance stuff with bands on TV , especially 80's & earlier like this one , is the band lip synching / playing to the studio track . J.Geils Band could bring it Live though . One of the best double bills Ive ever seen was J.Geils headlining with George Thorogood & the Destroyers as the opener . Now THAT was a Party 🙂
