I always liked drums. When I was a kid in the '80s I wanted to learn how to play, but my parents did not allow me to. Instead they forced me to learn guitar, flute, keyboard. I was not happy about it. I studied them anything from few weeks to few years. 30+ years later, I remember close to nothing and I can't say I feel bad about it. Unfortunately I missed the boat. Now I don't have the money, the room or even the appropriate place (small apartment) to even consider starting learning/playing drums. If I had kids, I would let them follow their heart. Really love hearing old timers play the drums. They understand the music involves changes in pace, volume levels and tones is real music. I think a lot of young drummers believe that hitting the drums as hard, as loud and as fast as they can means "music"....it's not. It like young guitarists who thing shredding as fast as possible on the top three strings (G,B,E strings) from fret 15 to 22 is music or playing two string guitar power cords as hard, loud and as fast as possible is music....it's not.
