Interview Christoph Schneider & Thomas Lang - Drumtrainer Online

Some time ago we had the great Thomas Lang in from Los Angeles visiting Drumtrainer online. Three days of filming, from morning to night at different locations in Berlin. We shot two days at the Backline Berlin (BLB) workshop of Rossi Rossberg - and since Rossi was the chief Backliner of Rammstein drummer Christoph Schneider for many years, his workshop is located at the Rammstein warehouse in the northeast of Berlin. And since we were there anyway and Christoph and Thomas have been friends for many years, it was just natural to bring the drummer of the currently most famous German band for an interview in front of the camera. Interviews with Christoph are very rare and on top of that Thomas Lang is asking the questions!? ... what can we say: We are very proud of this Interview. The thing that makes Schneider so damn excellent is that he doesn’t play very difficult or technical stuff but i don’t know of any drummer that can play as heavy as he does. He makes simple stuff sound so damn perfect and makes it fit into the music and complinent it. I’m a MASSIVE fan of Lang but Doom is just My absolute hero of all drummers.

Jonka Olofsson Over the time when listening and relistening to everything Rammstein has released I find some little things here and there that make me smile or headbang or whatever. He‘s no Mike Portnoy but he is damn good and nice to listen to, as you say. Simple yet colourful and heavy or soft when needed. Also one of my favorite drummers.

He's so lovely. In fairness all of his band mates are lovely too. They have this huge and scarey but awesome sound; some really dark videos; a stage presence like no other band, and yet they are all incredibly intelligent, humorous, lovely chaps. Christoph is a phenomenal metal drummer. They've got their formula and their sound, which wouldn't be half as good without Christoph 😊

UMC 5 months ago Christoph is always the nicest most real guy and so humble. You would never realize what a great killer drummer he is by his own description? He is a monster drummer in a monster Band! I Love Rammstein! And after all these years I am always so impressed by how he doesn't need to be the image that his profession almost requires? He is just the most real kind guy. I will bet he is a great Dad to his children!

Schneider always had a great drum sound going it shows in the albums reise reise, rosenrot, and liebe ist fur alle da, his work on waidmanns heil shows his skill with the double kicks and snare rolls he's surely up their with Lars in the sense that he instinctively knows what fits best for the song to capture the vibe.

Schneider is the King of staying in the pocket. He's also the king of midi and click tracks. The entire rammstein live performance grounds on his drumming. The Pyro, the light show, everything. If he messes up it's over. Lars on the other hand is all over the place, no structure, just erratic playing and dumb fills.

Vienna has been several centuries the capital of Germany when austria was the mightiest state in that specific time in it's history. Two completely different types of drummers style-wise here. Lang is amazing with footwork, polyrhythms and limb independence. A great showman and top notch progressive drummer while Christoph is basically the engine of Rammstein. Nothing fancy,,, only occasionally taking opportunities to show off. I’m sure he’s easy to lock into allowing the rest band to do their thing and put on their amazing stage show. Rammstein’s identity stems from each individual identity that make up the sum of their parts. Great interview.
