I had a drunk neighbor in Emirates economy class recently, being in economy it was even worse, dude was leaning on me and shouting in my ear, then getting angry at me for not being able to answer his incomprehensible questions, the emirates flight attendant was superb at dealing with it, he even offered for me to move seats which I politely declined because of the extra legroom my seat had, but the flight attendant sobered him up and at one point even took him to the gally to calm him down, professionalism at its finest

@@HaalandEditz123Haha no way, I also had a drunk passenger experience on Emirates as well. He was weirdly loud and seemed like he couldn’t sit still. On approach, he got up to leave for the bathroom when the aircraft was only a few miles away from touchdown. He was shouted at to immediately take his seat by cabin crew. Then after landing, he got up again to use the bathroom which of course he was told to sit down again. He was talking to everyone around him when they were minding their own business. I was only 1 row behind him to his left, I didn’t make eye contact just in case haha.

As a former senior for 24yrs on a major ME carrier, the moment an intoxicated passenger was discovered, there were only 2 outcomes. If said drunk passenger was displaying these actions, before boarding, i.e. during check-in (after being informed by groundstaff), they were approached and questioned to determine their level of intoxication using the 'traffic light guide'. Once evaluated, they would either be denied boarding or if their condition warranted to be accepted for travel, then all service of alcohol would cease. This was explained to the passenger(s) then passed on to the flight deck. Problem solved.

Had that person tried to board a plane here in Australia, they’d have been denied permission at the gate due to being intoxicated. Simple as that.

I've binged like 10 of your videos over the last 24 hours Josh - not only because you're just flat out honest about your experience (The Air Peace one was hilarious) - but you accent is fascinating. In one of your videos you said that you grew up in Asia and Australia and it's like every 4th or 5th word (especially at the end of sentences) you go fully Aussie - that twang is unmistakable. 🤣 It's such a great hybrid.

I flew AF one month ago from CDG to Dulles…the lounge was amazing. I had a five hour layover and it was very enjoyable. The onboard was ok, but, you are right, the service in the premium seating is,not best, pedestrian. I had an amazing flight attendant who tried to fix that which was wanting. In the future, I will not pay for anything more than an exit row in coach if AF is the only option.

I recently flew on Air France from Atlanta to New Delhi and my experience was delightful. Everything was on point. The infotainment system, the food, the crew, boarding. But I've only used Lufthansa before so I was using that as the reference point and I can say Air France can beat Lufthansa in economy class for sure

Well, I am not sure why you're describing your economy class experience in the comments section of specifically a business class video as comparing economy class and business class between 2 airlines is like comparing apples to oranges.. While Air France might have a better economy class than Lufthansa, it doesn't necessarily mean one can expect Air France to have a better business class as well.

I had a 2 drunk passengers in the business class on the LH flight from Buenos Aires to Frankfurt. One of them fell on the floor when he tried to go to the toilet. After they started to be extremely loud and provocative crew offered them coffee or tee, after they stay persistent requesting more wine, 2 man stewards came and of of the passengers went with them. I remember I slept 6-7 hours and when I woke up, he was still gone. He returned to his seat some 2 hours before landing. I guess he was sort of “detained” in the crew rest cabin.

Not really, nerves can inhibit the intoxication while in air. To get properly knocked out you need to binge liqour (less liquid to have to piss) at the airport up until a point (leaving enough time to piss before boarding) then down diazepam within 30-60 minutes before take off, it should kick in properly when seated and you can be in a semi-coma until landing if the flight is shorter than 6 hours.

They’re usually pretty careful not to- going into the lower oxygen atmosphere makes the effects of alcohol magnify. So if you’re tipsy on the ground, you can be belligerent in the air. And nobody wants that.

I had a similar experience on a couple of Singapore to London flights in business class (on SQ). First one was a guy who got so drunk and threw up. It's the only time I ever saw an SQ cabin crew losing it a bit - she apologised to me and said the guy was a "total asshole". He was in the window seat and I was in the adjacent aisle mid seat. Lovely. Second incident was far more fun - yet not ;) As you know, the original SQ A380 business class sights were stupidly wide. A girl seemingly met a total stranger in the lounge before the flight and they got friendly after several drinks. After boarding, she would some and sit in his seat (both skinny folks !) and as the lights went down (night flight), they were getting VERY friendly. Couple of visits from the cabin crew didnt put her off and she was forceably removed back to her own seat, as things were almost descending from friendly to 18+ porn lol. Still the best airline and crew ever - in my opinion.

With reference to the AF boarding, what I cannot understand is that an airline will board a particular flight at the same time every day, and yet they often never get the boarding right. You learn from your mistakes (allegedly) but they - sometimes - never seem to learn. I boarded a long-haul flight (no name - the flight itself was delightful) from LHR recently, and it was rather chaotic. I checked Twitter, and the airline had been notified regularly about this very flight by unhappy passengers.

I think sometimes the crew just get tired of trying to herd uncooperative passengers. I once flew China Airlines lax to phuket via taiwan. At lax when they announced business class boarding EVERYBODY queued up. it was complete madness. It may be that despite years of trying they realize the passengers can't get it right and there's no point in making the effort.

Book a leisure route, get a leisure clientele, especially in premium cabins where you're likely to get people intent on drinking the price difference from economy in the lounge and on-board.

European airlines always come up short to the Asian and middle east carriers. My next flight is with Swiss and their 320/777 to Singapore and onto Philippines with SQ350, I'm really looking forward to that.

Hi from Nigeria! Great review Josh. I use to fly AF on my regular trips to France. The only interest compared to other airlines flying to Abuja is direct flight. Coz appart from that, it's fair to say that AF lost its service quality somewhere☹, especially on night flights.

@@fredinparis1 Well... for instance, as the catering has been loaded in Paris in the morning, means it has spent the whole day in plane fridge when they serve it for the night flight going back to Paris, and you end up with literrally frozen salad or cheese! And when you make a remark they just tell you it's how it is🤷🏻‍♂️. Sorry but I don't pay for a business class ticket to hear this type of answer! And don't expect anything else during night flight, crew is just interested in serving diner as soon as possible then dim the light and rest in the galley.

@@StunXPlayz If we only talk about Abuja to Paris (direct or with stop over), Turkish Airlines and Ethiopian Airline are currently better in terms of quality of service, even though Turkish sometimes use a Boeing 737 on the Abuja-Istanbul leg, with a business class less developed than with wide body aircraft.

Regularly fly business or PE with Air France, CDG to Lima. Always excellent and streets ahead of the competive airlines, infinitely better than Lufhansa and before anyone tells me Lufty dont fly to Lima but I know them from the Frankfurt to Panama route

Drunk neighbors on a plane could be either okay or a nightmare. I noticed during covid times especially, they had a sign saying those intoxicated could not board here in the US.

Many years ago, I was travelling LAX-CMH, and had to layover in DEN for an hour or so. I remember while waiting to board the 757 that there was a sloshed businesswoman (or so she appeared) in line, and she kept trying to place her BlackBerry on a stanchion, only for it to keep sliding off due to a non-level floor. I amused her immensely by being able to tilt the stanchion so as to keep it balanced on there. She *may* have just been under the threshold for boarding; I faintly recall her trying to negotiate with the gate agent. But thankfully, I've never had to cope with a belligerent/manic drunk onboard a flight.

My Mom was on a flight from JFK when it was still Idlewild, going to Miami for a friend’s wedding. The guy in front of her was smashed and got up, stumbled up the aisle yelling if anyone knew the score of a ball game. A man tried to block his way and the drunk guy kicked him in groin, causing him to fall on a woman who was eating her meal. He was stopped by the flight engineer trying to get into the cockpit. He wanted the crew to radio NY to see who won! By then, three men wrestled him into a seat, belted him in with the seatbelt and belted his arms behind him with loaned pants belts. They made an emergency landing near D.C., Annapolis, maybe? Four MPs got on, arrested him, returned the belts, and drove him off in a military vehicle. The entire flight, it was pouring rain and so much turbulence, Mom and lots of others kept asking for puke bags. They got to Miami nearly two hours late because they had to keep flying around storms. I remember riding in the car with Grandpa to pick Mom up from Grand Central Station. She cancelled her return flight in favor of the train! Mom passed this year, age 98. It was a family joke to never board a plane with Mom because something bizarre always happened. Another time a young man had smuggled his pet lizard in his carryon, took it out mid-flight and it escaped. Pandemonium broke out with people either trying to catch it or get away from it. Mom hated lizards, as in lizard phobia, so naturally, it ran right past her foot. The creature was captured, no extra landing required, but I’m sure there were consequences for the owner. On yet another flight, a morbidly obese man insisted upon occupying his ticketed seat right between my parents in a row of three, so each got only half a seat. Worse yet, the man reeked of what was apparently urine. The flight attendants were “busy” every time my father tried to stop one and insist upon a seat change. The only saving grace was the short flight from Philadelphia to LaGuardia. An attendant finally stopped as they were already approaching the airport!

Most of my air trips were between 1950 and 1980. While much has changed, I am sorry to see that people under the influence of substances are still a problem. What you may not know is that, at least in the 50s and 60s, you could expect about 50% of the males on a flight to be drunk--including the pilot! Women, especially the stewardesses (aka waitresses) were always considered to be fair game for both drunken and sober men, so you were likely to see a great deal of groping and breast grabbing. The cabins were always thick with smoke from cigarettes, cigars, and pipes, the sharp smell of liquor, body odor, and urine from the often leaking toilets. Things are much better for women now--still a long way to go--so it makes me especially sad that it was a woman who was intoxicated on your flight.

Thank you for your post Olivia. I nearly spit out my coffee laughing at your 50% of male passengers including the pilot were drunk. Yet you are still here with us to tell us that story.😊. More sobering to hear what the female members of the cabin crew had to deal with back then. Thank God it's not like that today. I wonder if being a stewardess was still considered an attractive job back then. Thanks again.

Ik used to work for airlines in Brazil and in Belgium. Not flying personal but ground operations. I've seen many funny and less pleasant thinks. Including a drunk passenger in the KLM Royal class when it still exists.(DC10/30 with 24 seats in the Royal class) He took of his pants and was lying half sleeping half inconcious due to the alcohol. The flight was in transit and the purser asked me to help him carrying this guy out of the plane. What a funny situation. I must say here that I'm surprised Air France served such a low quality meal. The country of the art of cooking and serve fine food...how disappointing this can be knowing the price paid for a business class seat. I'm a great fan of yours and one of the two airlines reviewers I follow. Greatings from Belgium.

It is in the airlines power do deny boarding to an intoxicated passenger, and if they didn't do that then they could at the very least deny alcoholic beverage service onboard, which apparently they didn't do either. So in the end it is the airline's fault.
