This kind of uncontrolled, spontaneous television no longer exists in today’s contrived culture.

@@CringeComedyTV Fortunately, Frasier, the sitcom that followed was head and shoulders ahead of this one. There were some good Cheers episodes I have to say, but towards the end, the humour and the writing got tired and laboured. But the writers to create Frasier was a master stroke.

First time I’ve watched this which is funny because I was outside interviewing Jay Leno right before the finale for NBC affiliates. Jay had no idea the entire cast was drunk. Afterwards, I was suppose to interview the cast but it was canceled due to their inebriation.

Leno looks like he's drowning, like he has no idea what to do/say. Letterman should have been the one to do this interview. Even if many of the Cheers cast were drunk, Letterman would have known what to do; how to get Comedy Gold out of it.

This was the year Letterman had moved to CBS ... The Cheers show was on NBC and Jay Leno was on NBC. NBC wasn't going to let another network do this over their own network.

I think part of it was CBS losing the NFL. A lot of CBS stations across the country were replaced as FOX affiliates around the time Leno took over the lead in the ratings in 1995, not to mention that NBC had much better prime time shows as lead-ins during that time.

One takeaway - It's fine if they are drinking and enjoying themselves. however, it seemed disorganized, totally would have been better - if they had more segments and structure, ie: kirstie Alley's bit followed by each person's memories, episodes, and a few highlights from the show of off camera producers noticed Leno was lost
