Good video, it is surprisingly hard to find videos showing the mounting bracket, and I just wanted to see how it's used before buying it. Good information.

Exactly. I never used a mounting bracket before and I was looking around for a video or instructions.

Thanks for posting this! Helped me out a lot! I had to replace my mail box post and used the exact same mounting bracket. This video made it simple. Thanks!

Great video, it's hard to record and work at the same time. It's actually helpful to see the omissions, which I bet are frequently done and the corrections. Thanks for posting the video.

No wonder that you had difficulty digging a hole (even with rocks). You should have dug the hole about 2x the with of the pole (or about 8-12 inches). How can one spread the post hard poles apart when it's dug the width of just the post hole digger? then, you should have put crushed rock (drainage for wooden post to help sitting in water and rotting) at the bottom (make sure you allow for the rock and the post is buried 18-24 in deep and the bottom of the mailbox is about 41-45 inches). If it were me, I wouldn't trust just soil. I would have mixed in a small bit of quick drying/Quikrete to solidify it and keep it from eventually leaning. Before drying, use a level on both sides for straightness/plumb around. Putting the mailbox is a piece of cake, so I'll not go there. But I will say, the mailbox should be closer to the driveway (unless you come home drunk on a regular basis). Wet grass and excess walking inconvenience can be eliminated each time to the box and dropping mail in wetness.

This video will be confusing to some who watch it. You put the bracket onto the post upside down initially. Then you realized it would be good to "read the instructions," and you realized you needed to turn the bracket upside down and use the spacers under it. But the rest of your video didn't give details on turning it upside down and installing the spacers. You should re-do it, in my opinion.

I'm surprised you didn't put any concrete in the hole to keep the mailbox post from shifting around over time. I guess you must not get any snow in your area as the post wouldn't last one year in the snow belt once the snow plows pushed snow banks against your post.

Thanks! I need to replace our mailbox, we live on a farm (renting) and our metal box door now won't close due to vehicles hitting it (c'mon man)... so I'm going to get a plastic box, and this helped me figure out what to do! :)

Spacers are not for the bottom. They go on the side if the mailbox is a larger T2 style.

Same thing happened to my mailbox and post when I lived in Florida. Early in the morning a drunk driver or stupid driver came onto the sidewalk taking out my neighbor's mailbox and post and taking mine out too. The driver of course took off before anyone could get the tag number. Me and my neighbor both purchased identical mailboxes and we didn't even realize it. They could still use their post but mine was completely gone as well as the box. I found a couple of guys on Angie's list to install the post and box. They didn't do a very good job because not even a week later someone pulled the post and mailbox completely out of the ground and stole it. I couldn't believe it. Once again I had to buy a post and new mailbox. This time I hired a young man who was a handyman and he had done work for me before. Don't know why I didn't hire him to do the first post and mailbox. He dug a hole all the way down to the water line which in Florida isn't very far. He mixed concrete, poured some in the hole while I held the post up. He then put the dirt back in the hole and finished it off with the rest of the concrete, installed the mailbox. No one bothered it after that. I reported the box stolen but nothing ever came of it. I now live in South Carolina and although my mailbox is okay I just ordered a new one with a lock. This one is steel. My current box is plastic. Every time the mail carrier comes by she never closes the door on the mailbox and it makes me so mad. My mail gets wet when it rains if I don't go out to get it. I have informed delivery so I know which pieces of mail is important to bring in the house on the same day it's delivered but sometimes I leave other mail in the box for a day or more. Stuff like grocery store ads. I'm glad you made this video so now I know how to install the new box when it arrives. I know there will be instructions but you know how THOSE can be. Confusing! Thank you and I hope there are no more drunk drivers knocking down your mailbox!!

Did the screws and spacers come with the mounting board?
@kzpylj77293 жыл бұрын
I got this same mount but I'm wondering how you'd do it for 2 boxes. The mount would sit perpendicular on the crossbar 🤔

Thanks for the video. It's very helpful. Out mailbox is only 18 months old but the door broke. I drilled out the rivet and replaced it with a bolt a a hinge but it only lasted two weeks. Then the I jammed the door on the box in hopes of the mail carrier just putting it on and taking it off like a breadbox but that worked about a month before she dropped it on the ground and ran it over. So now I have a box with no door. I bought a new extra large mailbox and a universal mounting bracket. But here's my question: the home builder installed the current mailbox with a small wood board on the top of the post arm that the current mailbox is attached to with 4 large wooden screws. I can also see 4 little screws inside the box with washers that look like they go into the wooden board too. I don't see a mounting bracket. Can I just remove the box then attach the new mailbox directly to the wooden platform on top of the post arm with 4 wood screws? Instead of using the mounting bracket? If so, how to drill the holes into the wooden board from inside the mailbox? It's out at the road and the neighbors house is right there and want to avoid looking like a fool.

What are those 4 screws holding in place on the post??? It looks like there screwed into nothing on that single board not even holding the post in place

It looked like your mailbox had screw holes inside it. If so, why not put wood screws inside these mailbox holes and connect it to the wooden post without the bracket you purchased separately.

Thanks for the info. Just a quick question. I have replaced my old 2 door mail box but I used the old board that was on the pole already, After I replaced it the back door would not open all the way. Would I need to get the steel plate one like you used? Thanks Mike

You are supposed to have the front of the mailbox 6-8 inches from the road.

Why would concrete in a 12" to 24" hole (depending on the pole length) be the wrong way to do it?
@SteamEnginesUSA4 жыл бұрын
Concrete works too. I did not use concrete because it is a very light post. If you had a heavy larger style then concrete would be better.

I pulled this video to see how to put the mailbox on the post and you totally lost me with the missed spacers. My Hampton mailbox didn't come with screws. The bracket at Lowe didn't have screws or spacers. I guess I will take back the bracket or buy screws and spacers and figure out how to make it work.
@ooohlaa132 жыл бұрын
how did u make it work? same Hampton but I have to buy screws and didn't know anything about spacers until this. Can you share how you worked it out? This is a methodical excellent video but not clear about the spacers since no hardware came with my plate.
@realtyrocks19692 жыл бұрын
I used concrete and filled the inside of a 4" steel pipe with concrete as well. I also dug the pole into the ground 3 feet deep. My idea is if you hit my mailbox I won't have to wonder who did it. Your car will ve totalled and you'll be paying to fix my box. I have no desire to protect the lives of drunk drivers.
@ooohlaa132 жыл бұрын
postal regulations say you will be liable if person gets hurt because you planted your mailbox too deep ... people have gotten very hurt I read and they said just 2" otherwise if someone hits it hard, it hits them back instead of cracking off it is "too sturdy" and becomes a weapon. Can't remember the post but he also cited USPS regulations.
