Two years after a drunk-driving crash killed the Felipek family, defendant Amber Perera learned her fate.
Hillsborough Judge Christopher Sabella took the bench as a packed courtroom hung on his every word. He reminded Perera of a jailhouse comment she made about her life being ruined. "Yes ma'am, your life is ruined. But you also ruined a lot of lives and ended three lives."

You have to put yourself in their position. I'm not defending her, but when your own life doesn't matter and you do things that are self destructing there's a posibility that you don't realize that you're putting other peoples lives in danger. Humans have a tendancy to try to survive and when life in prison is knocking, you body goes into survival mode and you can't help but think about yourself because you first need to get yourself out of danger. I'm not a drunk driver or drunkered, but I think this might be the case. I'm also don't have any degrees on this subject lol. But it's easy to hate and want to kill the person who took innocent lives while they themselves are suffering from self loathing and addiction to excessive alcohol. Just something I wanted to point out.

Just because nothing happened the first 2 times you did it, doesn‘t make it any less severe of a crime. Here‘s how I would do it: 1. offence: license revoked for 1 year and 1 year probation 2. offence: license permanently revoked and 5 years in prison I can guarantee you that drunk driving accidents will go down drastically!

@@-that_guy-1674 actually it is because when you are drunk your body does not tense up when your hit which makes you a lot less vulnerable to damage rather then when you do tense up when your sober. Thats why in a ton of drunk driving incidents the person survives. In my home town some drunk dude crashed into some trees going 120 and literally walked out of the car after with only some scratches. And recently with the Raiders, Henry Ruggs was going 150 something and I believe hit the person her killed around 127 mph he had non life threatening injuries. Its a very weird and interesting science if you look into it, of course it is terrible and tragic when someone innocent is hurt or even killed when it happens.

50 years?! That’s cruel and excessive. It’s not justice but revenge. Even 20 years would have been a harsh sentence, especially considering the state of prisons in the US. It’s also incredibly expensive to keep 1 in every 100 adult citizens in prison, and a further life totally wasted. She could have gotten sober and found a cure for cancer. Okay that last part is a bit facetious lol, but it’s true
@benhart777

Also, judges in (civilised) countries must stick to sentencing guidelines, so no judge in Australia would be able to give 50 years for this offence, if they did the person would be resentenced on appeal. Prison sentences have just ratcheted up and up, particularly in the US but in other Anglo countries as well; UK, Australia, NZ, Canada… it’s not any safer, and in fact in the US it’s gotten much worse

To those who have lost loved ones to some senseless act like this, I'm sorry. And it's okay to grieve for a time but don't let your grief and anger hold you captive for the rest of your life. Don't let those who've harmed your loved ones, further harm you by stealing your happiness and joy. There is a light at the end of the tunnel, it's just a matter of perspective, how you see things. As much as this hurts, we children eventually will bury our parents, thats a painful fact of life. No parent should bury their child, there is no bigger pain for a human; thats why they say there is a word to call a child without parents, "orphan", but there is no word to call a parent who lost a child. I'm not even a mother, but i know there's no way i would forgive the person who was responsible for my child's and grandchild's deaths. Look, I know at least 3 people with 10+ DUI’s. They are still functional and not a threat or burden to society. This triple homicide, although I don’t defend her actions, has no intent of the killings. 50 years is ridiculously unfair. (Yeah, yeah, “unfair to the family and those killed.”) It is obvious that the justice system has multiple severe flaws, and most of the time it is theatre, an act to show how “righteous” they are, when they are the parasites of society.
@Zibbybread
@Zibbybread 3 жыл бұрын
@@actavisthedoctor7772 Are you that dumb that you think intent plays a factor? First of all Anyone getting behind the wheel under the influence understands the risk there putting on the people driving around them, and second intent means nothing, dosnt matter if she meant to kill a family or not, she operated a motor vehicle in a state which is not legal or safe and killed 3 people. She deserves 50 years, if a man broke into a family’s home and murdered all 3 of them I would want him to get 50 years. This is manslaughter, she deserves no different. Obviously you and your ignorant freinds believe your fully functioning and not menacing society, but your wrong, the fact they have 10+ duis each shows they cant operate a vehicle under the influence. You are and them are a disgrace and terrible people for condoning driving under the influence.

One of the most selfish things you can do is drive drunk. There’s no excuse when Uber and Lyft exist. Edit: A lot of you pointed out Uber/Lyft/Taxis aren’t options in small towns, which is true & to those comments, I’d like to just say at the end of the day there’s no excuse. Plan out your night and stay in & drink at a friends or something. Have a plan for a friend/family member pick you up from a bar. If you have no option but to drive then limit yourself in what you drink. That’s all - if you disagree with me then we’ll agree to disagree. I just think it’s messed up how one persons decision to get plastered and drive can take away someone else’s life.

Uh, yeah, she’s crying for herself because it’s HER life being thrown away. Just like the grieving father is crying because he lost HIS daughter - he wouldn’t be crying about someone else’s dead daughter, would he? I feel sorry for the families but this woman is no better or worse than the millions of other people who drive drunk every year. She just got unlucky. The fact that the reporter tells us nothing about the accident except where it happened makes me suspect that she wasn’t even at fault, were it not for the fact that in many states the intoxicated party is always considered at fault even if they were stopped at a red light and a sober driver plowed into them. Both the victim’s father and the injured woman look messy enough that it’s not difficult to imagine them driving drunk a few times in their lives. If so, the fact that they didn’t kill anyone was simply good luck, in contrast to the defendant’s bad luck. They are exactly as dangerous and morally culpable as the defendant, and just as deserving of scorn and decades in prison. The sense of unearned moral superiority coming from these people is nauseating and if I were on the jury I would be tempted to nullify.
