Just as in real estate or anything available for sale. Anything will sell if it is the right price. The hotel will be clean, new and pleasant. The staff will be friendly and the food decent if not special. If you were to forget about the fact this is supposed to be a unique experience and just compare it to other Disney resorts, what resort would its standard rooms be most like? I think it would be fair to compare it to perhaps the Polynesian which is on the monorail line as this Galactic Blue Lesbian Starcruiser is adjacent to Black Spire Outpost. Rates vary wildly but a theme park view room would cost about $800 bucks for four people. Then imagine adding meals to that @ $100 per person per day and then the entertainment VIP access @ $200 per day. This would be a $500 per person per day value. Or $4,000 per family of four for a two day experience. Compared to $6,000 for a family of four on the Galactic BLue Lesbian Starcruiser. I know Disney could not care less what I think but between today and the first sailing of the Star Cruiser I think Disney Imagineers should find a way to give guests more value for that additional $2,000 upcharge.

One problem is this... a luxury hotel that has "cabins" smaller than my walk-in closet!! I know they want LARPing, but to not have a swimming pool for those that don't want to do the role playing, that is pretty bad. Parents might want to do this for their kids, but there's nothing for the parents!! Plus, the fact they are doubling down on the KK version of Star Wars does NOT help! Yes, there are some that like that version, but I honestly believe they are in the minority!!

This is my biggest issue with this. Is there a spa?? A space spa would have been cool! Is there only one bar as shown in the preview?? One bar for hundreds of people?? On another video, the idea of a Hogwarts Experience came up for Universal Studios. People come in for entry to Hogwarts, the hat choosing ceremony, etc. I argued that such an idea could work, but there needs to be time for attendees to do "personal" things like shopping or other activities, both in park and out of park. Disney essentially "imprisoning" their guests for two whole days is probably a bad idea unless they do a major overhaul.

The idea of your whole 2 day stay being on a schedule just doesn't sound fun. Plus it guarantees you see it all so why come back? But if things are happening all the time, you're gonna miss some things just by going to the parks or getting dinner, and that would make booking another visit worthwhile to experience everything

Karma is sweet. I really don't know who would stay in a hotel like this. There is absolutely no charm at all. At least with Port Orleans etc there is a charm about it and you actually can feel like you are in an old town. I'm not a big fan of theme parks but at least with the older stuff they did a good job with theming. This thing looks like a bleak industrial concrete warehouse, and cheesy Star Trek Next Generation props on the inside. For the kind of money you spend on this you could have an authentic vacation in Europe, which I would recommend over this

My understanding is that you are not allowed to take any photos inside the hotel. IE you can't walk around with your camera phone taking pictures of you or your family during the experience. If this is true it will just be another nail in the coffin for this thing. Cause now they are telling folks not only is this gonna cost you an arm and a leg. But you can't take photos of anything like inside the regular parks. I am sure they will have staged photos here and there that cost extra, but it won't be the same.

Funny you should mention a big black cloth in the hotel....if you look 1 minute into the original promo video when he says "punch it", you can see Disney hung a big black cloth hanging from the ceiling of the bridge in the back round. So, this is a "cruise ship", a luxury one at that? With no buffet? No spa? Sign a "non-disclosure agreement" upon boarding that you promise not to take any vid or photos of your family enjoying their special (expensive) one-of-a-kind trip, so no memories unless you pay their staff photographer for them? Only 1 theater/stage show during the whole cruise? Dinners with time limits so short you can't hold pleasant conversations and get to know fellow passengers, lest they chase your 6 year old away from the table before they finish their dessert? Oh, and keep your "galactic card" handy for the bar, since you'll pay inflated prices for each drink (no open bar here!). Only one "shore visit", to a place already crowded with other "tourists" so you can spend most of your time standing in line to grab a "ronto wrap" or shop at a merchant who has most of their stock absent (see other reports on the sad state of merch at Galaxy's Edge)? No special experiences like light saber or droid building allowed? But you'll get a special entrance to a ride that has a good chance of being partially functional or completely broken down! So do you get another slot when it comes back up, provided your " "shuttle" back to the ship isn't ready to leave? And how will all those tourists react to a sudden flood of hundreds of special guests jumping to the front of the lines and crowding out the Disney experience they've paid for too? Surely they'll be happy to play along and make your shore experience joyous and special, won't they? At least you'll likely be able to experience the true cruise ship feeling when you pay the giant mark-up prices for all the special clothing, toys, and other merch that your "alien merchants" will be sure to offer you on board your ship! If you think you're getting off with just the base 6000K rates for less than 48 hours, you're in for a rude awakening! Take a look at the furnishings, decor, and other offerings of a real cruise liner, heck, look at Disney's own cruise liners! They CAN do "luxury" for those passengers! They even have their own island for a shore stop, where you don't have to fight with park guests already trying to enjoy their own vacations. Disney KNOWS how to do a cruise folks will enjoy, talk about, and want to repeat. It just looks like they aren't willing to add the luxury touches to do a real $6000 experience for it here.

Disney's whole pricing strategy surrounding parks & resorts is aimed squarely at attracting the mega rich. By default, this will result in self regulation of parks/hotels as the vast majority of us will stay away knowing we can't afford the costs. However, when the quality of offering from Disney is so low even those who usually spend without question are cancelling, then the strategy will have failed and Disney will have to work VERY hard to tempt us plebs back ....

Here's what I would do. Divide the hotel in half with each half being the same. When you check in, you are assigned one side. Then all the guests are divided into groups like Alpha, Beta. During the day a loudspeaker or your band would anounce things like "Beta group come to the bridge". When you do the shooting game you are actually shooting at ships controlled by a group on the other side. Same with lightsabers. You would face off against a VR imagery from the other side and really have a battle. You could even have a race to fix the engines and other competitions. People love to compete and knowing you are competing against actual people instead of a wall light would ratchet up the fun. The spy story they got going is really weak. On the last day, total points are announced and whatever side wins gets a visit from either Rey or Kylo Ren depending on what side they were on. They could also have some OG characters appear but you know they won't.

With the right budget and a project manage with vision this all could be turned around. I think Disney should write a blank check to fix this because at this point it is going to cost them more if they let it just fail and they will never live this down. Imagine gathering every imaginer in the country for a brainstorming session and give them a ten million dollar budget to fix this in two months. If you have ever watch reality TV shows where they give homes or restaurants a makeover on a ridiculously small budget you can see what can be done. It is more about imagination than money. The halo effect of this project would effect not just Hollytwood studios but all of Disneyworld and the Star Wars brand. If I were given the task of leading the renovation I would have them inject legacy star wars into it and find a way to transform the Starcruiser from a Fairfield INN vibe to a millennium falcon vibe.

Others have said it more eloquently, but this hotel is just a microcosm of Disney's current policy. Some say it's crowd control, some say it's greed, some say it's just plain stupid. But their plan seems to be price out the people who can't spend thousands a day + food, drink, and souvenirs at the parks by putting hotel and park admittance at an all time high, plus implementing Genie+ and Magic Keys etc. The hotel is the same but worse since it's just one hotel and one tiny corner of one of the less good parks for only a few days. But still premium because "the rich people who don't care will pay". At this point they would probably be better off just making it a normal hotel with no extras tbh. It would probably not be such a massive disappointment if it were.

They clearly have a Bureaucracy problem at Disney with people afraid to speak up and state the obvious in fear of retribution. It has been said that a fish rots from the head down. In this case the Mouse rots from the head down. While this may sound like a pun or a joke at first, there is an imbalance in the Disney management with people in key positions of power that don't deserve to be there. The lower levels are afraid of pointing this out and the upper levels are keeping them there for the wrong reasons. Like many people. I think it is possible the only reason the incompetent team in charge of star wars remains in charge is they know where the bodies are buried with their past employers and this is their reward for their silence, this is their pay off. A super cushy job they are simply not qualified for and then all down the chain under them they hire others for the wrong reasons and this is what we get.

I would love to see an honest review! Of course, I doubt they want to get the drubbing they've earned from consumers. This has been the year Disney has really 'flipped the bird' at its fans and customers. They've made it clear we are expected to love whatever they do and to pay insane prices for sub-par experiences and products in return. Through their actions they've said it time and time again, they want ultra rich clients and the riff-raff can go to Universal. We used to enjoy our family trips to Animal Kingdom Lodge and the parks but I'm sure we will enjoy Universal and the other Orlando attractions just as much.

My best guess is come opening day they will be giving disney park employees free trips so they can have a full hotel experience for the paying guests. Back when the hotels were re opening they gave employees free nights to stay at the hotels as guinea pigs to make sure the rooms were still working properly before paying guests came back to the resorts.

Appreciate you being on the coverage for this but that article is misleading... July through August was NEVER fully booked and always had openings. Also, many of the dates that show new openings only have a few rooms open. For your own research you should give them a call and try to book 3-4 rooms and see which days actually have that many rooms open. If the date is open it could mean any % of availability. If most of those dates are still 95% full or more, then it's not as bad of a sign is it? But if each day is actually 50% capacity then it is a major problem for them. The article you referenced doesn't actually mention anything about real capacity numbers, after all it is Inside the Magic, whose track record for factual information is a bit shaky. Keep up the good work though.

Kristin Baiver did a review on it. She said it was good although they put it on the Star Wars website so the 99.99999% of people who hate it couldn’t voice their opinions. Her report had no pictures of the inside but it had her at the entrance. $6G for two nights and this thing doesn’t look like Star Wars, it has only your woke sequel trilogy characters and not Luke Skywalker or Darth Vader or Princess Leia, and the lightsaber training is you fighting a flashlight. If you read the sample itinerary, it's boring as hell. Sabacc lessons, Captain's reception, light saber training, half your day at Hollywood Studios, droid racing and build a model ship. A regular hotel offers more activities than this. Plus an extra $30 to eat at the same table as the blue-faced freak? No thanks.
