Wendy there’s a lady here in Australia, Julie Cutt, who has a KZbin channel called Pouring Your Heart Out, good channel actually. Well she has a few videos of making crystals and she’s done it very successfully. I tried to make them, and for the same reason as you, to make a drusy, FAIL,FAIL,FAIL. I don’t have your patience. And yeah I think the “seed” is one of the smaller crystals “you made”, that’s a joke for me. Yours is still beautiful, it will make a brilliant tray and you can cut them up for other projects I guess, but I really like yours makes me want to try again. ❤️

A few months ago, Julie spent a few months perfecting making crystals. She went through all of her trials and errors but pretty much mastered it. I'd recommend those videos to you! She even mept a lot of seeds and said she would give them to whoever needed one if they contact her. If you look at her videos though, she'll show you how easy it is to make them! She even has videos about making inlays from them!

Fatakdi alum works best Wendy...I get mine from an Indian foods and spices place online. Just type in Fatakdi alum. Good rule of thumb is 90 grms alum to 200 ml of water....and sieve it as you add it to the container you're using to make the crystals. The sludge you get is too much alum and you're not sieving it. Little tip...put some wood glue in your container and put dry alum on it. When it's dry...that's your base point.pour your mixture onto that. And make sure you cool it slowly..the slower the better.I've grown crystals up to 6 inches across. Well done though..😊😊

Borax powder can also be used to make crystals they form overnight. Same principles heat up the water to boiling then add the powder until it can no-longer dissolve. The person was dipping silk flowers that they had sprayed glue on and dipped the flower into the borax powder then suspended it in the borax loaded water and let it hang for a few hours around 6-12 hours depending on how much crystals you wanted forming on the seeded silk flower.

Hello from Canada, Wendy! What I got out of this is that you must have the patience of a Saint! For me, it wouldn't just have been the resin that was blue! The language would have been blue, the air black, and the whole miss chucked in the bin after having been bounced off of a wall! Then I'd have been really annoyed at having to clean up the mess I'd made doing it! I'm glad it finally worked out for you, but I don't think it's something I am going to try. Thankyou for the video, and I can hardly wait to see what else you come up with.

You did it! I was never able to get crystal in a plastic tray with alum. I gave up. I know you don't have borax there but that's the only thing that worked for me. Some people use epsom salt but I think those come out thin and pointy. I stopped once the borax worked. Took me weeks until I discovered borax. The only thing I see that's different in this process is that you didn't cover it while it was making crystal and I did. Everything else is the same. So maybe if you try again, cover up your tray so the heat stays in there longer. ❤️

Petra jongbloed made video's about making crystal inlays a couple of years back and she used wood glue and the alum powder let it dry and them poured the alum water solution over it. First of all. I love you. You're fun informative and talented. I just finished this video. Have you ever heard of Borax? I don't know if you can get it there . Can't attach a photo. It's a very old school laundry product. KZbin has videos on how to grow crystals with it. A string or pipe cleaner is dangled into the liquid ( made from boiling water and borax) and within 24 hours you have a ton of crystals attached to the string. If I can find the video, I will forward it on Email. But they can be like towers or clumps. Not just flat. ( Mine kept ending up looking a bit perverted 😏)If you're looking for something else.?😉 Your druzy insert is BRILLIANT!! Sue Michigan

You need a deep pour resin that can pour that deep. And that is hard to find, as most only recommend 40 mm But some do go much deeper without issues. Layers are really hard to get right I hope that helps 😀😀❤️👍

dredging up old science classes, I think that the way the crystals are formed is by supersaturating the water. Essentially, by boiling the water, you allow it to absorb more of the chemical than it normally would. When it cools down, the mixture is unstable and adding something to it causes the excess to sort of squeeze out of the water. I think. And I think that is what is meant by seeding and maybe why the first attempt didn't work. I think you would have been better served to add the mixture while boiling to really supersaturate it. I know nothing about the chemicals involved and dont know if it is safe to do that - just theorizing in general. The whole process is like creating rock candy sticks. It is like crystalized sugar on a stick (not sure if other countries call it the same). So, i imagine it wiuld have worked better if you stuck something into the water AFTER it cooled and was supersaturated for it to grab onto? Or if making a flat sheet, maybe wait until the water is cooled before pouring.

I enjoyed reading this 😀😀 thank you for theorising and telling me your thoughts. It sounds as though you have a much better understanding than I do. And I really appreciate it 😀😀 Thank you so much 🥰🥰

I have only gotten into the beginning of the video, and I had the same problem with the pumps too. It is so dumb that the pump doesn't extend far enough.

A word of warning. I used the botax method and used them in a geode id made for someone special. It turned matte white and got really ugly. Im currently breaking it out of the geode to replace it with something. Haven't decided what yet. But the borax ones do not stay pretty and sparkly after two years .
