I can really appreciate how you're not taking any short cuts with this. Many would have stopped at the dry ice blasting, but the hard and time-consuming work you're putting in polishing the engine is really paying off. Very well done, Scott.

I would have completely disassembled the engine, cleaned it with sovent and properly rebuilt the engine, new seals, gaskets, etc.. The engine has been sitting so long that it needs a light rebuild anyway!!!! I think this was a waste of time and resources. I love the video and content though...❤😊

I used to work with a company that manufacturers and sells dry ice and the dry ice blasting machines you're using in this video. Companies like Serv-Pro (which is a fire restoration company) used them a lot because there was never any secondary residue to clean up. The ice would simply evaporate from it frozen state of -109°F/-78°C which is why you need protection when working around it.

Have watched a few 'Ice Blast' cleaning videos, but if I had one I would clean my car, and my neighbours just to see their faces from the transformation. The benefit of no additional residue is massive. Would clean the shared block drive and my garden paving slabs. The external plastered walls, my trainers, planters, garden fence panels. The ice supply would probably be the only thing to curb my enthusiasm...

Good to see more ice cleaning videos out there - I really hope it becomes more and more available purely for personal reasons! If I had one it’s not stay off for long - with an ongoing restoration of a classic Mustang, which has a filthy engine, gearbox and rear end, as well as an upcoming suspension rebuild on both my daily driver and weekend toy, I suspect it’d be well used and save days of hand and machine wire-brushing!!

We used Cold Jet at my old job to clean matched metal mold dies (up to 50,000 pound tools) and large screens for silk screening among other odd bits. It had to be done in a special closed room and the person operating had to be in a full environmental suite with pumped in air. Oh, and it was LOUD! The machine made its own dry ice pellets. It is now automated on a robot arm. We had also had a laser ablative system that was supposed to replace the dry ice machine, but that got nixed at the last minute for some very stupid reasons as it worked very well. The little guy you were using does an OK job for light stuff, but as you saw, was not up to the task of the amount of grime you were up against. Honestly, while messy, walnut blasting would have been better.

@@PompeyMatt17 IIRC, only white one ever made with UK steering. Sadly, there's enough rust that the car will need repainting so the paint won't be 100% original - though if I recall correctly, there's some classic Ferrari weirdness involved here, which says that as long as the car been certified original *once*, you can repaint it and it'll still be "original" because the certification isn't recalled...

Used to go through tubes of the SOLVOL cleaning up my motorcycle engine, that ice blaster would have made short work of the fins and other hard to reach areas, it would have saved all those rubbing blisters. 😉 Good to see it's helping clean up your Ferrari. Keep up the good work 👍

Ice blasting worked out great for you. Wish I had one to tackle my F430 block and my old Betsy dump truck I use around the yard! Keep the videos coming.

The Kärcher icing machine is awesome! I'd love to clean up the engine of my 1991 Ferrari 348 with it. Keep us updated with the high quality camera mate. Best regards from Germany and stay healthy mate!

That ice blasting kit would be perfect for cleaning up the body and other body parts of my Mini. I have looked into various methods of stripping off the old paint and this looks like it would be the least harsh of all of them. Cheers and stay well.

Glass beads in a blasting cabinet is the best results for cast aluminum and steel. Glass will not contaminate the surface , leaves original cast marks and takes little time to get "like new" castings. Dip the parts in paint stripper tank (I used crysilic acid ) rinse with water and blow dry, glass bead the parts and voila! Clear coat with matt-flat-gloss as needed and finish will be bright for years.
