I use post it notes as dry fire targets, some with a black dot in the middle to help me target focus, some without the black dot in the middle.

thoughts about the dryfireking? been using the latest videos by them which have much more simulated distance to cover for my rifle training lately. they seem to bring out and highlight issues much more for me than using just regular paper targets

You are dryfire training using DFK, e.g. 1) You're getting trigger reps in 2) You're getting grip reps in 3) You're getting sight picture reps in 4) You're getting stance reps in 5) You're getting small transitions in 6) You're getting distance/depth differential-ish reps in Bottom line: you're practicing, any practice is better than no practice.

Sometimes I like to use my grandsons action figures set up on shelves in different poses for dry fire aiming practice. 😂 Seriously! 🤷🏼‍♂️

i also use stickers for dry fire. And now my house is a mess! looks like someone has used a shotgun on the walls in my apartment 🤣

I wonder if there's a visual training advantage to using aiming references which are harder to focus on, like white pasters on an offwhite wall

Hi Ben, do you discover some advantage from "shooting" the paster vs the scaled uspsa target?

Tony Wong used to have a video up where he had pieces of painters tape up on his walls around his apartment approximating the same concept. It seems to work for him.

I’m glad I was able to see his long form videos while they were available. The way he tackled skill development was very unique

Lucas recommended painters tape years ago. That's why I have it around my room.

Hi Ben. What is the best distance to sight in a dot for IPSC? Thnx

In my opinion, you should zero for the longest distance you plan to shoot with the furthest being zeroed at 50yds/m if you shoot past 50yds/m.

@laskalives Zeroing a pistol or rifle? Zeroing a pistol at 50 takes a crackhead. 15-20yds will have you connecting on essentially A zone steel at 50 and C zone at 100yd. Both my PDP and P365 are easily capable at 50yds and they were zeroed at about 17yds for the P365 and I honestly don't remember for the PDP (used the Trex red dot zero printout).

Nobody on the planet can practically shoot offhand at 50 to where you need a pinpoint zero at 50. People hardly if ever even zero rifles at 50 anymore. 25 should be the MAX, and that's still pushing it for most people. Your holds at closer ranges totally negate any of the benefits that having a long range zero will do for you. A normal pistol dot which is 3-4 MOA will take up so much of the A zone at 50 that you are essentially just praying your target is underneath it.

I zero all my pistols at 10yds using bore sight, because that's the distance from my table to the wall 😂 Compensating for sight over bore height a bit. It works well enough that I rarely have to tweak it at the club/range.
