I have a U and then 2 shooting strings. The shooting strings are separated from my U by 2 spaces, as yours is only one away. How much of a difference will that make?

As long as you have a gradual "staircase" you can tighten and loosen the strings as needed

A nylon offers something to catch the ball more than the lace does. I put one up top and pull it tight and it gives a consistent snappy release of the ball

I do mine differently. I alternate over and under with. Oth ends of the lace. This way I can manipulate each hole. Always comes smooth
