I find that the closer it gets to dry, the faster it dries. You need to be checking it often as you get near the end. I'd rather jar a little early than too late. A mini hygrometer in every jar is a must. Cheers, I've been enjoying your podcasts as well.

Exactly correct. The only thing I personally have found is, hanging the harvested plant in either a big cardboard box with holes punched in for airflow, or a paper bag makes a big difference. Preferably in a zero light environment. I've dried in as few as 4 days, but over 7 gets a bit dicey in the climate I live in. Also if you can acquire some brown or green glass jars for the cure to keep the light out, your buds will taste heavenly.
@herbertwerner2287 Жыл бұрын
I put mine in a box [12 quart jars] with a removable lid they are clear jars but a nice box is great for keeping out the light if you don't have colored glass jars. You could also stack a few like that. And have them next to you tent even without any worries. Not to forget seeing thru the jars is important and handy if you wanted to use a magnifier on the outside without opening the jar you could.

So here is a hack that changed everything for me when it comes to harvest. If you’re not bumper cropping try this . Don’t cut your plants down . Cut all large fans off , Kill the lights or move them to your drying area in their pots. Let them dry standing up . The cool part about this is when it comes time to trim . The leaves on the bud stand straight out instead of folding around the bud . Days before your plants are dry the leaves on the buds will be super crunchy . You can literally run a gloved hand over the buds ( not even touching them ) and the leaves come Off clean and fast . It’s actually incredible how much easier it is . A few days later I debone with a final clean and into the cure buckets it goes . Give this a try . My drying area is 62 degrees and I maintain 62 percent humidity and it takes about 21 days to reach the point where they are ready to cure . Trust me , try this .

Drying half a dozen ounces now. I hung them in my walk-in closet for 2 days and then put them in brown paper bags and put the bags in my 'mini' fridge with the temp dialed all the way UP. It stays 48 degree inside and the bags help retain the moisture. I did this last summer/fall when my outside temps were in the high 80's and it worked out fairly well. I live on a more less cold city in Mexico, I have no issue with moisture. For drying I use an small grow tent and hang the plant, the tent has an small extractor and an small fan to work on an schedule. This is just for moving the air inside.The plant will be there like 15 days, and the I cut the flowers and put them in small jars of glass. 250 ml. Enough for some 10 gr, Then I just put the jar in boxes , open the jars a week after to liberate moisture and then the weed is in the jar until I take it, This way I open small packages that will no affect the environment of the other jars curing.

Up in the northeast I routinely see 90+% humidity in the late fall. My solution has been a dehumidifier in the adjacent room, and it seems to work well. Putting that thing anywhere near hanging plants is a tragedy waiting to happen, but drying out a neighboring room allows me to keep the heat from the machine in there.

I agree it’s an art form. People think , cut, dry, smoke. But it’s like making a great bourbon. It doesn’t stop at the brewing process. That’s just the start. To get a truly great high with a smooth taste, it’s all in the curing process. People think just grow and smoke. Growing is only 1/4 of the process. Harvesting 1/4. Drying 1/4. Curing 1/4. People don’t understand curing, it’s the difference between good and great product. A cheep alcohol is only filtered a few times or aged for a few months. A great alcohol is filtered many times and aged for many years. The more time you spend curing the buds the stronger and better it will taste.

About the time the stems will break, I remove sugar leaves and place the buds in a glass jar with a temp and humidity meter build into the jar lid. I will burp the jars a couple of times per day until the meter shows just under 60% moisture content. I have had buds mold when they are over 60%.. Once below 60% I will cure the buds until needed. Best time to start putting the flower in the jar is when its dry to the touch on the outside, but still has moisture on the inside/stem. From there you place it in jars and sweat out the last bit of moisture by burping the jars and turning the flower for the next couple of days. Drying and curing is an art form of its own and its just as if not more important than growing the dope to begin with.

Curing is just slowly drying it. I find the slower you can dry the better. I starve the plant for light and water. Let it extract all it can. Less water at harvest the higher the brix. It needs some water to move sugars. Partly girdle and split some late flowers outdoors. To get them done sooner which could be bro science.

5:50 That's not what you want. Also, don't get confused - if your humidity is around 55-62%, you won't have any life in the jar. In industry, you talk about "water activity." We want to keep this below 62% to prevent bacteria and fungi from decomposing our plant material. That's important to understand - there is no biological activity at this stage anymore. All the activity we want before is the plant splitting up the chlorophyll etc during the drying process. After that, we want to LOCK everything in the jar and equalize the humidity and no biological activity anymore!!!

you actually dont want to burb if the buds is dried well enough. its about fermentation.. you might to read some proper studies on it. Long story short, you can do it like this ; hang dry or deep freze ( needs external extraction of the vapor for terpenes.. so Id just hang em) until the stems crack nicely when you force them. then you use pizzaboxes ( nice to stack) and store them with a hygrometer inside. the moisture of the buds gets well spread inside the box, you can do this until the actual curin process. Once you jar them like this and the humidity keeps below 60% it doesnt require - even is enormously better scientifically to not burp at all.

I mean…. Nutrient ratios rarely vary plant to plant. If a plant needs more of something you give it more…. If it needs less you give it less. Like you do realize ever nutrient company does the same thing growdots do… they give you bottles that you add in a fixed ratio and they usually give you a range of light and heavy feedings. Growdots just have every bottle in one and organically breakdown rather than pour out the bottom of your pot.

@@Tonyisgaming tell me you're joking. Nutrient requirements don't vary from plant to plant? Dude, nutrient requirements vary from individuals of the same cultivar in different conditions, let alone plant to plant. Gtfoh and learn to grow yourself instead of hoping someone else got the nutrient balance close enough to work for you.

@@gypthcnuryse7611I get the appeal. It really lowers the entry level to have someone do all the learning and balancing. I'm just coming from a place and time where real live actual hands on experimenting and working with what's on hand with limited access to information was the only way. Now I'm kind of salty that after decades of experience and studying and balancing, now the kids up the block are growing stuff almost as good as me with a bag of premixed stuff they bought and threw in their premixed soil they bought and threw under the light they bought in the tent they bought that they control with their iPhone growing strains they bought. It kind of negates my lifetime of experience and deep knowledge of growing and breeding... makes me feel useless.
