Awesome information. I go through phases of baking sourdough. This will be a great way to save it when I'm "off the wagon". Thanks!

@reeram Try hot-gluing something inside the broken bulb that you can turn-- like a bolt.

My only concern would be that I've heard fruit flies like it, and I'd hate to rehydrate it to find that it's infested with the little buggers!

How do I dry a stiff starter for subsequent freezing? It's not as spreadable as a liquid starter so should I tear it into little pieces and air dry it before freezing?

Hi, quick question: When do you remove the starter to apply to parchment paper, just after feeding or after it has fully expanded and begun to decrease in size? Thank you.

Why not roll the parchment paper and let the crumbles slide into the bowl from the end of the rolled paper?

Todda , which means thanks from Israel :-) I've got to try . I have tones of wet strater ,but I'm not sure he is alive anymore.

You can take some and feed him. If he gets fun and bubbly, go ahead and dry him out. If not, there wasn't any point in drying him to save. (By the way, you can keep just a tablespoon to feed and toss the rest. The more starter you have, the more you waste on feeding if you're not going to use it all.) Shalom!
