I think I figured it out: You can, just not during his back-step/dash, teleport or attack that uses hearts.

No. I actually played Albus mode and all. He says "You can't hit me!" when you do his teleport. Since Albus can't get Glyphs like Shanoa, he won't be able to reach several areas in the game, (Shanoa gets an ability to temporarily go through certain walls) especially if you're going for 100% completion. To allow Albus to reach everywhere, touching anywhere on the touch screen will make him teleport to there. That's when he says "You can't hit me!" Maybe it's a glitch that makes him back-dash while invincible as we see. I don't know... :\
