@@pittland44 Garak is an honest liar who is lacking compunction but secretly has a deep respect for those with honor. why else would he be helping the federation and starfleet, against his own people and the dominion. The federation is a paragon of virtue and honor, they promote leaders based on gravitas and meritocracy over the dominions obedience to the founders and cruelty towards their enemies. garak respects the federation because of their unwavering devotion to honor, for their principles, their unwillingness to break them for anything or anyone. whereas the dominion and cardassians only pretend to have the high moral ground but then secretly break treaties and attack first or occupy innocent planets to expand their influence and power. He did not, he knows worf plays a big part in Klingon and starfleet affairs. Even if unintentionally he is always in the center one way or another. This is garak's way of teaching him some politics and ingratiating himself as well. At the same time he prefers a Klingon empire run by worf rather than someone else, with worf's only weakness also his strength, a lack of duality and understanding thereof. I love this conversation how worf slowly begins to realize what garak is trying to do, . How he can't admit being thankful to the lesson and at the same time being taught that it is necessary to comb through lies and how easy it is for him to be sold on one. Harry Kim was an Ensign from the start of Voyager to the end, having left the academy at the start of the show, and still ended up at a lower grade than Nog years after DS9 ended. It's possible Nog even got to full Lieutenant by the end of Voyager. I don't think Garak is that too far off at all.
@FlaviusBelisarius-ck6uv5 жыл бұрын
Jokie155 You do realize that pretty much every member of Starfleet on Voyager ascended a rank or two when they got back right? Janeway became an Admiral, Tuvok received a captaincy, Harry became Lieutenant-Commander and so on. All the others who were originally Marquis had their provisional ranks made permanent, minus Chakotay who also became captain. The reason almost no one changed ranks on Voyager was because they were in the Delta Quadrant. When someone is promoted, you’ll need to find someone else to take their post. But exactly where will you find a replacement crewman/officer when you’re 70,000 light years away from the closest starbase? Janeway put it best to Paris: “Your life could be in danger and we need you!” Even Chakotay admitted that people should be encouraged to have children since it’d take them 75 years to get home, and they’d need a replacement crew in half that time.
