You are the ONLY one out of the zillion others here, that told us that they problem was the battery and how to change it. You're the best! Thanks!

Thank you for explaining that the battery's life is 3-5 years where most security companies failed to explain or highlight. I bought my replacement from Lowe's, they have it on stock.

Thank you! While watching TV last night, alarm system started chirping. Trouble light was flashing with the "1". Ordered a new battery after watching your video today. My battery was 6 years old. I know better now.

Thanks so much for a well-made and well-explained video. I had PK5501 panel and it is a monitored alarm system. My panel looks similar to this one. It makes a shrieking, not very loud, noise at almost every 11:30am. It goes to silence after I key in the master code. I call the service company and they would not tell me what the problem could be nor how to troubleshoot it. They wanted $100 service fee to come out to take a look at it. Today I watched this video and followed the diagnostic procedures. it was the same problem! The voltage of my backup battery, a same UB1250, dropped to 12.7. I will order a new battery and change it out!.Thanks again! Your video does not only save money but also the hassle of having another appointment for a simple battery change!

Do you need to do anything on the control panel before actually changing the battery? Or is just changing it enough?

Thank you that was very informative. What about changing the battery in the external siren, does the trouble yellow light go off after you change the battery in the siren? I did follow the depassivating procedure and the trouble light is still on!!! Help.

Very detailed and well done video. My question is it possible to get an intermittent buzzing sound lasting for about 5 seconds from the DSC control panel before or without a trouble indicator at the keypad panel. Battery voltage measures mid range of its stated values but years of service is about 5 years.

Bump? I still don't know where to dispose the battery. Do I put it in the recycling can? The same can that takes plastics and paper?

Imraaz Ali you are of course correct - I was incorrectly measuring the battery voltage while still connected. When I remeasured it disconnected from the panel (after receiving your feedback), it was only just over 11V. Thanks for pointing out my error.

This was very helpful information. I loved your video, especially showing to change one connection at a time. I was worried about having them both disconnected as there is some concern of arcing if they accidentally touch other wires. Thank you for this.

I did replace the battery over 5 years ago, exactly like you explained. Now the yellow LED light turned on again. Checking the battery voltage, it reads 13.78 V, which is within the "Standby Use" spec but slightly out of the "Cyclic Use" range [14.5-14.9]. The battery also states "Replace every 3-5 years". I will give a try to replace it. Thanks.

well done. the same proceedure works on older DSC alarms like the 1550 and 1555. press *2, and if it lights up the #1LED, its a battery condition alarm.

Very good presentation and very easy to understand. However, the standing voltage of the idle battery should be measured with one of the leads disconnected. Measure the charging voltage by removing both battery leads and reading the voltage on the hanging leads. Very good as what you did was perfect for the average home owner and will save them a lot of money. Cost of repairs here in Canada would be a minimum of 1 hr. labour at $85 + the cost of the battery plus taxes. Good job.

Thanks for taking the time to make the video, it is much appreciated. If you do a remake of this video, you might like to mention the fact that when you open the panel to inspect the battery, it will set-off the alarm and so the 'disarming code needs to be entered, Xièxiè

An excellent video - clear and concise - I used it to diagnose and replace my battery. One comment of note though is that whenI measured the voltage on the existing battery, it was 13.36V which seemed to contradict what I was expecting to get from a battery that needed replacing (4 years old). I went ahead and replaced the battery and the problem light cleared.

Frank Joyce do not measure while it is plugged into the panel, you may get the voltage from charger,

Superb video as well. I just wanted to thank you. My battery is 11 years old, and is only now beeping. I also wish that my box had a lock on it, but it does not. It also has an extra key pad inside of it. Since the guy who installed my system refuses to work on it and has long ago moved out of state, I have no way of knowing why it's there or what it does.

when testing the battery...don't you disconnect the battery to isolate it...and then check the charging system to make sure it is functioning properly...if it is bad...won't a new battery show that it is OK on the VOM...???...I mean digital volt meter...???...and is your power transformer ok...this video is good information...thank you...
