I know haha no sound test but for good reason. He mentioned It a little bit. He said he did wish they upgraded the actual onboard mics for these especially being the "pro" version but was disappointed they are the same from previous versions. You don't get higher audio quality with the bit rate of the file. 32 bit just has more information, so in post, you can bring up quiet sources without bringing up a high noise floor. And on the opposite end, if the source audio is too hit and distorted. It's like dynamic range on a camera or even the data speed which it records at. More information, more flexibility in post.

The 'every 4 hours' timecode jam will be because the timing crystals in most cameras can vary by a field (half a frame on 25/30 fps cameras) every 30 mins - the Rode devices themselves might be more accurate but this re-jamming will be because of the variance in cameras.

I hope I can turn off that new record-on record-off button. It’s gonna get tapped by mistake at some point. You’re right about the finish, when wearing it on a t-shirt I don’t really want it shining and taking attention (plus that new big record light).

@tonyhailstone Жыл бұрын
The new record button on the transmitters can only be changed to start/stop recording (when unit is set to manual) or start a new clip (when set to auto record). It is WAAAY to easy to press. A firmware update really needs to address the lack of option to lock the button (or at very least require more than just a tap to activate)

I use black washi tape on my Wireless Go II for that shiny surface as well. Way less noticeable if you’re wearing it with their magnet kit. It’s not ideal, but if you plan on keeping it fully covered at all times, you could try to use a really light sandpaper to create some texture for the gaff tape to better grab onto it. Might not slip off as easily. But I’m with you, a matte texture on those would have been nice on the “Pro” model.

This is a great update for Rode. Definitley a fantastic device however i think they are running into hardware limitations and are trying squeeze out as much as possible into an old design that they dont want to invest into R&D for a totally brand new device. Honestly i think the 32 bit float and timecode are novel updates but im concerned how they will fare against competitors. I used to own these Rode wireless mics and was completely surprised how while they worked, were lacking in futures, accessories and cheaply made the actual product was. If im going to be real, as a now DJI mic owner. When, not If, DJI makes their version 2 wireless mics with 32 bit, locking lav mics, and timecode with the amazing hardware it has... Its a no brainer. I think Rode has got to completely start over if they want to compete in the "pro" space.

What makes these any better than the DJI option? It seems like most of the changes made were to catch up to the DJI variant. But for me personally I see the DJIs as the better option still (I don't use time code at work so that's not necessary for me) because they have both an output for camera and headphones on the receiver, as well as pins to charge off of in the case rather than using the USB port. The touch screen for me is way easier to use than navigating with buttons plus all settings can be changed on the receiver itself. Finally the mag is built into the clip on the DJIs so no need to add an extra attachment on to use the magnet. Sorry for the long post. This isn't supposed to be a rant but I'm just curious why anyone might choose these over the the competition.

@dslr video shooter . Just as a food for thought. You said: "since they recommended to sync every four hours I imagine there's some kind of drift". That's a valid point 100% but we never think of in relation to what that drift occurs. Maybe that BM cam's internal clock (on which it relies on after sync) is speedy, maybe that Alexa's internal clock is lagging behind? Maybe the most bullet proof, most accurate clock ever on a device would have to be recommended be to re-synced ever so often. Not because of that device providing the sync is imprecise, but because the receiving end is.

I can think of two :) One would be the inability to disable the record on/off button while recording. At the very least it should be a long hold to turn off recording, similar to Tentacle. Honestly, I've never worked with timecodes and I have no idea how much 32-bit float will actually improve the sound quality, but this has high quality, more features, and a better price if you consider than DJI does not include separate attachable lav mics, which I was going to have to buy, so that pushes the DJI price up from $330 to over $400. If anyone knows of a BETTER lav mic kit for a beginning KZbinr let me know. This looks like the one to me. I've seen a couple videos, since Rode released their video, that complained about the timecode, comparing it to the Deity TC-1 and one even demonstrated drift happening well within four hours. Evidently, when jamming TC, the cameras (sony, bmd and canon) demonstrated drift well within four hours (ten minutes) and that with the TC-1 plugged in to each camera, the drift was significantly less. I see this issue more as a problem with the cameras maintaining time than the Rode's jamsync. Which leads me to the question I have with the PRO - can you use one PRO as a master TC and jam other PRO receivers mounted to multiple cameras? This would be an excellent feature and render those other issues moot.

Also, why do I get the feeling Caleb already knows something is coming from Rode. The Wireless Code box idea he mention even had a supposed price of $79.....suspicious. Caleb are you aware of the next release and "predicting" it in front of us?

Okay, a silly question, as I know nothing about sound. Does this sound you are recording on these devices go directly to the picture being recorded in real-time? Because I hate syncing sound up on my timeline. Also, I'd like you to show me how these mics can be hidden on actors. Are these mics and set up good for drama shoots?

Yes if it’s connected to camera it will. However sometimes there will electronic voice. Most of the time I use the audio from internal recording. Software will sync for you.
