You could have made a video on just adjusting the mod as much as you did. But no. You adjusted an already sophisticated mod, just for the sake of then making an even more sophisticated video. Arma 3 does a /shit/ job in getting these things across to players. You consistently reference entire sets of mechanics I had no idea Arma even modeled. And you do so brilliantly. Your videos are somehow equally masterworks on the concepts you bring up, AND absolute bangers of Arma 3 technical trailers. Your videos should be interactive missions, in game. Dslyecxi this was absolutely awesome. If I might suggest however, it would be great if you could cover vehicle penetration/ricochet and armored vehicle penetration with higher caliber. I know that in real life vehicles offer minimum cover unless the round hits the engine block. You could also go over use of cover of vehicles for when they have to. I know that rounds skip off hoods of cars often right into the face of the target unless they take a few steps back from the vehicle/cover. Also change in bullets flight path when firing through glass would be greatly informative, and so too would be penetration and velocity of rounds through flesh and protective armor. Thanks man you are the best
@SnakePlissken70210 жыл бұрын
Man, that warehouse.... There should be a lot more penetration on those thin warehouse walls... In real life 5.56 will punch through a car door and have plenty of killing power coming out the other side. If it can do that then it should easily punch through that sheet metal used on that building.
@dannylamb45610 жыл бұрын
Yeah, heard that some 9mm rounds were made for punching through warehouse walls in drug raids or something as well. If a 9mm can do that, a 5.56 is just going to cut straight through.
@rmysargesquid10 жыл бұрын
Again that would depend on the type of round. Yeah you may get standard 5.56mm NATO but there are other said variants of the calibre like TRACER, Drill, Blanks and SPR (Steel Penetrating or Armoured piercing). Likelihood of going through a car door IRL with a standard 5.56 round is probably minimal unless your in a close quarter combat situation where the bullet still has a lot of velocity then the chances of penetration are increased but not really by much and also the chances of a ricochet being more dangerous to yourself. Steel penetrating however is made for punching through harder materials than your average 5.56 round and would probably go through a car door but will still have penetration issues over distance being that the round is still a 5.56.
@SnakePlissken70210 жыл бұрын
Sarge Squid Full metal jacket will punch through the average car door. How do I know this? Because i've shot car doors with my AR, with full metal jacket. Car door is also layered, sheet metal is NOT. .556 would have no problem whatsoever going through sheet metal.
@rmysargesquid10 жыл бұрын
Trust no 1 And at what range where you from said "Car door" with your AR?

Oh wow, sandbags can't stop 7.62 NATO? That's all sorts of wrong! Realistically a single row of sand bags has no trouble stopping 7.62 NATO even at point blank ranges. You can dump an entire 20rd into a single sandbag on a wall before it starts to come apart. A double row will stop .50 BMG and only has a little bit of energy from a single row. Sandbags are tough items to beat in real life.

You'll need to factor in that it's consoles though. So in the consoles segment, they're next gen. It's like saying your phone is next gen. Nobody expects it to outclass a powerhouse PC in terms of computing power. For a phone, it's probably quite good. Consoles always compare to lower-range PCs when it comes to computing power. Which should be obvious given their size and price. I know there are people who claim their XBox can fly to outer space and cast magic spells but the majority of people don't actually think "next gen graphics" means anything outside of the console market.

If Im not mistaken thats what it originally was meant for. Incendiary rounds punching through armor and hitting ammo stores in a tank can do nasty things. It eventually did become a favorite with snipers against infantry due to its effectiveness at range. At almost any distance a shot to the body would split a man in 2 or more pieces.

Tyler Geyser yes. thank you :D
@endermanbart755710 жыл бұрын
Yes, 0.50 can. But the problem is that ArmA III vehicles aren't realistic enough to use this feature somewhere (I'm talking about armour, this works well with cars and MRAPs), because crewmen are not in right places quite often and, as I think after studying vehicles' models, may sometimes be protected by some additional "textures", so, unfortunately, for now, armour neutralization using anti-materiel rifles is limited by killing crew, when they are turned out, or shooting APCs' and IFVs' turrets (I've mentioned, that AS50 completely wrecked Marshall's gun (not the whole turret) with one magnificient shot, making it much less dangerous). Well, also, as we know, AI crew leave their vehicles, when some of systems of vehicle are damaged enough (like 50% of wheels missing, or immobilization, like wrecked engine or tank tracks), so, if it comes to it, it is a way too.

I'd be interested to see how it does in water, as Mythbusters have tested in real life, rounds with the least energy actually travel further going from air to water, where as a 50cal barely penetrated any water as the bullet pretty much destroyed itself upon impact, wonder if Arma kept those in mind.

This is insane; this info is going to be so helpful in matches.

Can you do the same with all vehicles? :3

Truly awesome! If only there was an option/mod to force bullethole decal rendering on some relevant portion of entry and exit points (proximity to player, etc)... that way the gameplay impacts of these awesome ballistics would be more apparent in-game - I had no idea it was this in-depth :P

This was a very well made video! I've fired both the M82, G3 and HK416 IRL, and while the 5.56 allows a 10 round magazine size advantage, the 7.62 packs an impressive punch. It's been told that it easily fires through entire houses. The 12.7 reduced rockhard mountain into rubble and can penetrate the engine block of a car. It's very nice to see this simulated in ArmA 3, and the script was a perfect visual tool. Thank you for doing this video :) Could you show the impact on vehicles/crew?

it turns out that Arma 3 is truly able to simulate exterior ballistics aspect! There's a ballistics mod called "Advanced Ballistics" which make the Arma 3 engine capable of having Atmospheric Parameters (Air Density) into the ballistics! "Advanced Ballistics" makes the game have real Ballistics Coefficient & Muzzle Velocity like real projectile does! in real life, there are lotta aspects that have great effect on the bullet trajectory (based on the BC, MV, etc): 1) Bullet Drop range, angle of firing, muzzle velocity (corresponding to ammo temp), air pressure, air temperature, humidity, & Coriolis effect (earth rotation) 2) Sideway Drift Spin drift/Gyroscopic effect, Coriolis effect (earth rotation), and Wind deflection (speed & direction) "Advanced Ballistics" offers all those things! So what are you waiting for? Download "Advanced Ballistics" here: forums.bistudio.com/showthread.php?181324-Advanced-Ballistics-%28WIP%29

There is one Arma 2 mod called "Dagger Ballistics" which tries to improve the realism of ACE bullet trajectory. The mod was made based on real Ballistics Coefficient & Muzzle velocity, The Bullet Drop & the Wind Drift of each bullet was calculated using a ballistics solver called "GNU Ballistics". so this is a "Mod of a Mod" that makes ACE become even more realistic \m/ download it here: www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=24600

i think Arma's engine is still incapable of including atmospheric parameter into the ballistics but it can simulate real Ballistics Coefficient & Muzzle velocity though, it's still able to have realistic bullet drop & wind drift, but sadly those dumbass military wannabes (including Dslyecxi himself) won't even give a damn about projectile trajectory coz they ain't got enough brain to do the math for real long range shooting lol XD

Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for taking the time to do this. I've casually played since the day it came out, and am getting ready to get serious about playing (now that I've upgraded my PC)... but I had no idea the ballistic physics were modeled so well.

9.3, .408, .338 and .50 rifle rounds in Arma will pierce straight through light armored vehicles such as the strider and hunter and ifrit. Having a strong ballistics knowledge I knew this when the marksmen DLC came out and people were puzzled when I was hitting them inside their vehicles with the 9.3 and .338 rounds
