I think as Phil got older and he found out that norms of mothers combing their children’s hair after a certain age, he finally realized that teenagers and young adults want their independence. Phil never had that. He most likely mentioned that to people and his social circle saw that as “weird”, which it is. To him, it wasn’t. It’s why societal norms are alien to Phil. He was coddled early in life: all obstacles and a hint of adversity was removed for him. When someone pushes back on his lies, he gets upset. It’s why he drinks, as a coping mechanism, to handle the pressure of life. He’s never had to. He’s forever a child.

I know Western households are adverse towards it but Phil definately needed an ass kicking from his parents when he was young, that would have set him right. Him being spoiled and shelthered by his parents is why we have this human waste of space right now.

At 18 in the U.S., you are required by federal law to sign up for the draft if you are a male. I was still in high school when I had to register for the draft. At age 17, DSP’s mom was combing his hair. At 17 I was already in two bands and fielding legitimate offers to go on tour around the U.S. And I’m not saying I was working the coal mines by 17. I was a late bloomer. But my mom stopped combing my hair in elementary school. I was already choosing my clothes and doing my own hair way before middle school.

his mother literally paid his backtax (he admit in episode ten of A Beggars Journey by xMortis). He really said that? The hair thing? I thought he said something that was then interpreted into him meaning that his mum did his hair till he was 17. Unbelievable. So here's the thing, what if he still doesn't do his hair, but Kat has to do it. Didn't he look completely greasy and unkempt during the time he was separating from Panda? I mean, we all know he can't do shit. Can't cook, clean, do his laundry, do minor repairs, take the garbage out properly, set up simple OBS profiles. But what if he is even too stupid (or rather too lazy to learn how) to comb his own hair at 41 years of age?

I'll give Phil the benefit of the doubt here, I think he honestly just meant that when his mom cut/styled his hair every couple weeks for babby Phil, and he just didn't do anything special to it on his own between those times. I don't have Phil's exact hair, my hair is thicker than Phil, but my hair never grows much longer than a couple inches (I can't do cool long haired styles), and so now I like it in a style that I can just kind of let it fall after airdrying and when it gets too out of control that I need a bunch of brushing and styling in the morning every couple months, that's when I need a trip to the cutters. I bet he was the same, he just let it lay after his shower (I hope he was having them regularly back then) and ran his hair through it to get it to look like he wanted it and Momma Burnell would trim it once it got too unruly. In this case, his big buzzcut moment would be the first time he thought through a style he wanted and went out and got it done how he wanted, which is a big moment when you're young, it's part of taking control of yourself. I bet he went up to his parents, gave some big angry speech, they were like "cool give it a shot" and he has spent his whole life acting like he just spoke truth to power. Of course, that makes his complaints even worse, it's not like she was constantly combing it or ripping hairs out, she was just styling it like a normal person does, and Phil has blamed her for twenty-plus years. He's turning completely normal interactions between a mother and son (maybe a bit too over-protective mom, but nothing Norma Bates) into some abusive, damaging thing to feel bitter about decades later and blaming his mom for literal nature. No one's mom is perfect, but I can't imagine going out of your way to come up with reasons to be mad at my mom.
@ProfessorxVile

Why would you ever give Phil the benefit of the doubt? He's a manbaby, a compulsive liar, and a lazy hogman... it's perfectly believable that Linda combed her Lil Snortster's hair until he was old enough to drive.

Speaking of hairstyles, Steve's locks are looking so fresh. Metal AF but silky smooth and beautiful. I'd be lying (like Phil) if I said i'm not jealous. I had long hair for awhile, but when my hair started receding on the sides I started buzzing it. Unlike Phil who has done the opposite. It's tough watching your hair line recede but it's something a lot of us guys deal with and we just adapt. We don't blame our parents for combing our hair wrong when we were kids (or up to age 17).

I really enjoy your long form videos, Steve. Same with TBS. All that aside, I really hope your back issues will be addressed soon. A close member or my family is going in for back surgery at the end of this month, amd they're in panic/anxiety mode about the whole thing. They've lived with severe back issues, which has lead to nerve issues into the left leg, and having to assist/support them, I have the utmost empathy for how that can wear you down as a person. Please hang in there. Setbacks suck, but you're almost there, man. Sorry for the late comment, just saw this whole video today.

Phil was definitely a legal adult by then. He was old enough to work full time. As for the hair combing, maybe he just always fucked it up? What if his own mother couldn't trust him to do it right? Even now, he runs a comb through the tap and slicks it back like a grease lake.
@nunyabizniss3451
@nunyabizniss3451 Жыл бұрын
I can see Phil having his mother comb his hair until he was 16 or 17 but the line about him determining his own haircut after that is the real lie. I think the super short cut was a way to have his cake and eat it too. He wanted to get away from his mom doing it but he definitely didn't want the responsibility of combing it himself. So the super short cut requires no effort from Phil himself while also being a way to assert his own will. If that is his thought process, it would also suggest that Phil's mom was overly involved in other aspects of his life and he felt suffocated by that. Also, maybe some of his lack of life skills could stem from the same overprotectiveness.

Ur man Phil suffers from the typical American culture of upbringing. Alot of mums here are like helicopter mums, it's like they like they try to attach the umbilical cord back again. Sometimes its like something out of the Waltons. It is possible His mum could have some trauma that she transferred on to him. They Could've lived in the sticks, the middle of no where, his only friend was a squirrel. I'm not kidding. It seems Phil gaslights his audience to try to gain some control, he doesn't see his behavior is abnormal because it's all he's knows. My American husband had an interesting upbringing. If it happened in the UK he'd be put into fostercare. My American husband didn't see his behavior as normal either. We even went to a marriage counsellor with him thinking it was me. The marriage counsellor told him he needed to see a trauma counsellor!! half way through my husband just said you just saw it didn't you. Yes i see when things aren't normal. My husband's family is the first i ever met thats seems to thrive on chaos!
