The African American Heritage Committee of New York City’s Department of Social Services (DSS) is an employee volunteer organization where employees of African American descent can celebrate their rich heritage and the many contributions they have made in the United States of America, and the global community. All staff are welcome to join the Committee. On Friday, February 23, 2024, the African American Heritage Committee of DSS held a wonderful celebration of Black History month at the Kaye Playhouse at Hunter College. The theme of the program was “African Americans and the Arts.” Welcome remarks were provided by DSS Commissioner Molly Wasow Parks, followed by the Six-time Emmy Award winning producer Tracey Washington Bagley of WABC “Here & Now,” show with host Sandra Bookman. Musical and dance performances was provided by BDP Entertainment featuring various genres of music. The organization also presented a one-thousand-dollar scholarship to Jubilation Billingslea, is junior at Xavier University of Louisiana (HBCU).
