Recently found your channel while researching how to service my DT hubs. Awesome job of comparing and explaining the inner workings.

Thanks for showing the internals of ratchet vs pawl and how they work. You make excellent, informative videos.

Thanks for the video 😘 They're so well made and explained and helped me service all my hubs, especially the Prime and DT Swiss 240s. The 240s is a work of art of how easily you can service it without any tools. The Zipp cognition one was a bloody nightmare with the magnets and oil 🤢

I don't know why they dont just sell the higher teeth version. Never had the ratchet type just 3,4,6 pawl. Cant tell much between the 4 to 6 tbh.

now, which is more durable?

Any increased resistance during freewheel due to more contact points on 54 or 36 ratchet vs 3 pawl?
@gethermedel36203 жыл бұрын
it would be nice if you show which of the 2 performs better, which of the 2 stops first running on a 20km/h to a full stop.

Can you help me please. I want to buy a ready build wheels with 370hub in 148mm boost but then I need caps to make this boost fit 141mm QR frame

Is it possible to change out a pawl hub to a ratchet hub? Specifically hubs on Fulcrum wheels to a DT Swiss ratchet hub.
@AWD_DSM_FTW3 жыл бұрын
I'm converting my DT Swiss 370 w/ 3 pawl to a 54T ratchet style. You need a ratchet kit, freehub body, ring nut, the cassette bushing, and the spring spacer, plus the 2 tools to remove the pawl ring nut and install the ratchet ring nut.

so which is better? ratchet or pawls?

Ratchet since more contact

I don't think there's much inferiority of 3 pawl system as long as the teeth inside the hub is very tight. In my experience, system with more complicated design but doesn't offer much performance advantage will be less reliable. I don't know which spring has shorter life whether the 3 pawl or the ratchet system.
@manoz61942 жыл бұрын
I've used both, pawls can break and get clogged. Ratchets can clog with dirt so they don't move. Ratchets are easier to maintain.

Are ratchet hubs that much more superior to 3 pawls?
@FreeToCycle4 жыл бұрын
They are lighter and more expensive that’s about it!!
@BryanKeller7243 жыл бұрын
I can slip the 3 pawl in the 370 hubs and they are sloppy AF, the 54T rides like a dream.
@mabo18703 жыл бұрын
Weight, weight, Weight. Where is durability? Good Maintenance and both systems work fine. I changed my pawl freehub on road bike to a steel hub. More weight but undestroiable. Aluminium freehubs are light but don't live long. The cassette sprocket destroys every aluminium hub.

After changing my cassette on the DT Swiss 240 hub I notice a little play in the end cap on the cassette side - is this ok?
@FreeToCycle4 жыл бұрын
Just make sure the cap is pushed on correctly!!
