as a Mechanic in a smaller shop, we often get people coming in for services when the Warrantee has expired and the customer no longer wants to pay Dealer prices for the service... and the amount of drain plugs that were overtightened by the Dealers service department... I've actually had to break out the 1/2" tools to get them undone, when they were only meant to be torqued to 35Nm, yet are clearly around 135Nm How they don't strip out the thread is beyond me!

I had a motorcycle mechanic help with head gaskets on a Mercedes truck. When reattaching the heads(individual heads on Mercedes V8 diesel), he put the bolts in the rattle gun without even starting the thread and just drove them home. Cross threaded two out of 8 before I realised what he had done. There are some insane qualified mechanics out there 😢
@davidelliott584316 күн бұрын
I use a rattle screwdriver to speed run bolts. But threads are ALWAYS started by hand. For taking out, I use a breaker bar to shift the initial friction. It’s not hard and takes no longer overall. I have a proper impact gun but hardly ever use it.

Anytime you have an oil PAN or a valve cover or an intake. Manifold made out of plastacid. You're set up for failure. Plastic doesn't Bode well over hot cold. Long time heat and eventually will deteriorate and then it cracks and breaks especially true on Ford engines with plastic intake manifold. We would always have them coming in with spark. Plug codes in the back spark plugs. And what it really was. Was the intake manifold where the gasket would insert? Has deteriorated and crumbled away, allowing coolant leak and that coolant would go right into your coil boot and down. And it would destroy the coil and the spark plug and then you'd get the codes. That's we would always try to put the updated metal manifold on them. But a time you have plastic on an engine, it's just stupid.
